Pros: the spot was not remote at all. It was nice knowing that we were 3 minutes from a Wawa. We forgot a few things and it was no big deal going there to get it. We had perfect cell phone service so we could talk to our loved ones. The Vanner Spot #3 had a full picnic table and could accommodate 3 tents (the other spots had smaller picnic tables). It was also nice that there was a porta potty on site. Some Hipcamps I’ve been to said they had one but you had to drive to it. It was just right there. Firewood is free so we could keep refreshing our fire all night long. PLENTY of sticks so it wasn’t hard to get the fire going. We didn’t need to check in, which I personally love. We just drove there and that was it!
Cons: the highway is visible and audible from this spot, like the description says. We kinda got used to it, but it’s definitely noticeable. The spots are close together, which is great if you have quiet neighbors like we did. We heard someone drilling and hammering during the day and a few gunshots at night. It frightened our dog. At no fault of the owners, we kept finding glass on the ground and 2 ticks were on me within the first three hours. So stay vigilant for that.
Overall, it was cool. My wife felt sick right before bed, so we had to pack up and head home. However, we had a blast while we were there. Great location, easy check in, and right where I wanted to be in relation to Shenandoah and civilization. Thanks for the Hipcamp!
