Located 19 miles from Study Butte/Terlingua, 3 miles off the Hwy 118, and 65 miles south of Alpine, Tierra del Sol Basecamp sets the spectacular far west Texas stars with a beautiful southern view of the Bofecillos Mountains, (Packsaddle, Hen Egg, Panther and Agua Fria). From Study Butte, it’s just another 3 miles into the entrance to Big Bend National Park where you can hike, bike, fish, kayak, go off-roading and even take a day trip into Mexico, with a passport. Near Tierra del Sol, aside from the National Park, you can find the Big Bend Ranch State Park and the Terlingua Ghost Town, along with many of the outfitters to get you on the river our deep into 4x4 country. There are 5 primitive campsites assigned. A hillside overlooking the 2 mile wide basin at the foot of the Bofecillos or down amongst the wildlife in the Triangle Basin. This is as primitive as primitive gets. There is no water available onsite. There is a composting outhouse onsite.
Food and supplies can be purchased at the Cottonwood Grocery Store in Study Butte, 20 miles south on Hwy 118.
Camping gear can be rented from Far Flung Outdoor Center in Terlingua.

Beautiful place to camp, amazing views all around. If in a car I'd stay in space 1 or 2, there's a steep hill to get to the other sites. Overall a great experience.

Kyle’s direction were great and even though the place is really remote and we traveled at night, we found it easily.

The directions were exceptionally accurate. The site was quiet and secluded (as advertised). I chose this camp specifically for stargazing when I wasn't touring the local area- and it did not disappoint!!
Kyle was a great host! He greeted us, provided a good explanation of the area and was a wealth of knowledge overall! This is a remote, primitive site, so prepare to “rough” it. The views are amazing and the sites afford a beautiful view of the desert southwest.
TDS is a beautiful camp surrounded by mountains. Kyle is a great host, and it is literally the quietest place on Earth.
We loved staying at Hyle's land. Directions were spot on. The area is remote so bring all your own gear including sufficient water. There is a composting toilet on site but it's on a short walking distance. We stayed at site #6 which is near a (dry) creek. Just in between some smaller hills that protected us from the wind. There was actually a red flag warning during our stay. The views are amazing. Would definitely come back.
This campsite was the perfect place to enjoy the rugged beauty of the Chihuahuan Desert. Star gazing was incredible and not that far from Terlingua and Big Bend Park. Kyle was an awesome host.
