No — no cooking equipment at Star Haven. Brewster County, Texas experiences frequent burn bans, Stoves and self-contained grills are always usable. There are fire rings for your campfires but we ask that you not harvest wood or other burnable material from our site. Organic matter is precious in the desert.

Created by legendary automotive engineer, Carroll Shelby, Terlingua Ranch is nearly 200,000 acres nestled between 1.1 millions acres of wilderness in Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Star Haven's expansive vistas afford views of the state park 9 miles southwest, the national park 20 miles southeast and Nine Point Mesa 6 miles due east. The broad horizons mean unobstructed views for star-gazing and the remote location means the least light pollution you'll find anywhere. After 45 years of leading groups hiking, climbing, rafting, and canoeing the Big Bend, we are glad to share our basecamp with you.

Welcome to Star Haven campsite, situated in a desert landscape with fantastic open skies and mesas in the distance. We have the darkest skies and broadest horizon for star-gazing in this legendary dark sky preserve. This spot is the perfect outdoor getaway near Big Bend National Park! The campsite itself is level desert pavement overlooking a draw to the west. Come and pitch your tent or park your RV and enjoy all that the outdoors have to offer. The tent and RV sites are marked by railroad ties and rock boundaries. We try to leave as little trace as possible so please set up your camp in the designated areas. There are rock fire rings for you to use, so cozy up by the campfire and toast some marshmallows! We also provide a shared picnic table for you to enjoy a bite to eat. You can say hi to your fellow neighbor campers! We hope you'll enjoy the stunning stargazing, peace and quiet, and amazing sunrises as much as we do! We are located just over 30 miles from Big Bend National Park and about 40 mils from Big Bend Ranch State Park! There are plenty of opportunities to get out and explore - enjoy hiking, climbing, horseback riding, rafting, canoeing, even a zip-line and golf course available in the area. Other Things to Note: - You should expect to unplug during your stay and cell service and wifi are not available on site. - The campsite is somewhat private, though you may see other visitors in passing or in the common areas (such as the picnic table or the outhouse) during your stay. - You should bring your own drinking water, as potable water is not available at the site. - The pit toilet/outhouse is a bare bones toilet facility Please feel free to reach out with any questions and we look forward to your stay!

Remote, rugged spot in NW Agua Fria, Star Haven West provides a mixed desert floor environment with panoramic vistas of Big Bend Ranch, Big Bend National Park, and Terlingua Ranch. The darkest of dark skies await in this secluded desert paradise. This camp is for those who have a high clearance vehicle or are comfortable driving on some of the rougher roads in the area. There are no facilities yet, camp anywhere on our five acres that you wish. Just leave it nicer than you found it!

Getting out to this open area of West Texas was amazing. This spot is a perfect place to disconnect for a few days. If you love geology, this spot has some of the coolest rocks to check out. My two dogs loved being here and didn't run into any other animals or people during our stay. We took the drive slow with my RV but did not have any problems following John's directions.
