Oak Grove Campsite is located approximately 30 min from downtown Savannah and 40 min from Tybee Island. The site has 30/50 amp and clean water hookups. This campsite was awesome. Location is near to hunting island and Beaufort but quiet and tucked away. Nicely shaded and near another site but with enough buffer to feel secluded. We got fish to cook at camp from gay fish company and spent the day at the beach. Coming back to this site felt relaxing and peaceful after the busy beach. Thank you!

Belinda's property was just right for our short trip and felt secluded, while being easily accessible to nearby Hunting Island and downtown Beaufort. The property was spacious, and my friend and I enjoyed our time here! Belinda was kind and thorough in her directions and instructions for the site. Curt & Ani were incredibly warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The property is thoughtfully laid out, the facilities were clean and well maintained, and our site felt very private. We especially loved the unique grill setup and appreciated that we had everything we needed and more for a comfortable stay. Curt even kindly lent us a tool so we could work on our van, which was above and beyond. He also gave us excellent advice for getting into Savannah and parking our 24’ van, which worked out perfectly and made exploring the city so much easier. We would absolutely stay here again.

We had a lovely time at Liz's campsite. I loved that it was private for our easily excited dog. We enjoyed walking to the pond to see the different birds everyday and we even saw a deer one evening. The campsite was in the perfect location! 30 mins to Hunting Island State Park, close to Cypress Wetland's Port Royal and perfect for touring the Old City of Beaufort! We will definitely be back this summer!

About

An easy, 25-minute drive from historic Savannah, Skidaway Island State Park borders Skidaway Narrows, a part of Georgia’s Intracoastal Waterway. Follow hiking trails that lead through maritime forest and past salt marsh to a boardwalk and observation tower, where you can look out for wildlife such as deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets, and rare migrating birds. A nature center is another top draw, home to a giant ground sloth replica, birding station, nature exhibits, and a reptile room. The scenic Skidaway Island State Park Campground is nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss. Some RV sites have hookups, and a selection of camper cabins are available for rent.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Booking in advance is recommended and can be easily done online or by phone, up to 13 months in advance.
A limited number of sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Call ahead of time if you’ll be arriving after hours. You should be able to check in over the phone and avoid losing your spot.

When to go

Skidaway Island State Park is great to visit any time of year, but spring and summer are best for watersport opportunities, such as kayaking and paddleboarding. While summers in Savannah can get warm, Skidaway Island tends to be more pleasant thanks to its cooling ocean breezes. As with most state parks, the summer months are busiest, especially on weekends, so it’s a good idea to make reservations in advance.

Know before you go

A ParkPass is required for all vehicles and is not included with camping reservations. Overnight guests pay only one ParkPass fee for the duration of their stay.
Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash no longer than six feet. Pets are not allowed in buildings or swimming areas.
Drone use is prohibited in all Georgia state parks.
