The farm was once a portion of the McTureus Plantation.  Tony's family members were once enslaved on the plantation. Upon Emancipation a family member bought land and it remained in the family.  Tony is a descendant of those family members whose foresight allowed us to be here today.  Tony's parents entrusted the care and preservation of the property to us and we are doing our best to be good stewards and teach the value of this property to our children and young grandchildren.  Visit our farm and feel ocean breezes, smell the salty air, hear the calls of owls, doves, and our ‘friendly fowl’, turkeys, ducks, geese and chickens.    We are Tony and Belinda Jones of Morning Glory Homestead, a small, 12.4 acre, sustainable farm.   We returned to our family property to raise our five children and begin farming after Tony served 20 years in the military.  We are nestled in a beautiful, subtropical, wooded area filled with Live and Water Oaks draped with moss, tall Loblolly Pines, magnificent glossy Magnolias, American Sweet Gum trees and fragrant Wax Myrtles.  Our farm is on a tract of land that was at one time the McTureus Plantation, later bought by the Coffin Family and is a short drive to Coffin Point Plantation.  Currently, we offer two sites. One is nearer the farm house and our field while the other is along the trail deeper in the woods.   The beach at Hunting Island State Park is only 5 miles away and there are wildlife viewing areas and boat landings all around the island.  The Lowcountry is great for water sports, kayaking, boating, jet skiing, sailing and canoeing.  Each season offers an opportunity to participate in fishing, crabbing, shrimping or digging for oysters in local waters.  Explore the waters of the ACE (Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto)  Basin, the Port Royal Sound which is the estuary of bodies of water including the Broad and the Beaufort Rivers.  Our area is a favorite of cyclist groups, the long, flat, rural, scenic, roads offer pleasant riding experiences for cyclist of all ability levels.  There are bike lanes on many of the major roads.  These roads double as great areas for hikers to explore the local historical buildings, flora and fauna.  Other recreational activities in our area are geocaching, horseback riding, tennis, golf, rock climbing wall, beach volleyball, beachcombing, and birdwatching. While here you can enjoy historical tours of Beaufort County’s earliest years of the Santa Helena colony in the mid 1600’s, the revolutionary war period, the pre-civil war and plantation time period and the antebellum, reconstruction history up to the Civil Rights visits of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Historic Penn Center.  In January 2017, several historical locations in Beaufort County were established as the Reconstruction Era National Monument to include Darrah Hall on the Penn Center Campus, Brick Baptist Church both on St. Helena Island only a few miles from our farm.      It’s hard to say when is the best time of year to visit.  There are a few special events throughout the year, Gullah Festival-May, Water Festival-July, Shrimp Festival-October, Beaufort Food Truck Festival-October, Soft Shell Crab Festival-April, Pat Conroy Festival-November, Heritage Days Festival-November, Night on the Town-December.  There’s something for everyone.

Friendly Fowl Farm
Culturally rich and amazing food
Nestled amongst the red oaks on the culturally rich St.Helenas Island. Belinda and Tony have created a special farm experience. Evening we arrived they invited us to their Gullah Campfire Supper with Stories and Songs. An event sharing the history of the people and land. Serving up delicious food that they raised on their farm. The event was held under breathtaking oak trees. Both were gracious while our son tagged around with them on the farm tour. Camp spot is beautiful under the tall trees. We didn't know much about St Helenas Island before we had arrived. Tony and Belinda taught us a lot and gave us a real cultural experience. Be sure to get some delicious farm fresh eggs and homemade cinnamon rolls and biscuits with their honey. Seriously good! Right down the road is Hunting Island State park which is worth a visit as well. Thank you for a memorable stay, we'll definitely be back.

Friendly Fowl Farm
Site was exactly as advertised. My girls especially enjoyed looking at all the animals on the farm. Belinda and Tony met us and were so nice and welcoming (don’t forget to order a dozen of Belinda’s homemade cinnamon buns - delicious!!!). Tony was even nice enough to give me a tour of his new home built smokehouse, even though they were trying to leave to go out of town. Great family and great farm/campsites!!

Camping on Hunting Island!
Great host, they greeted us one morning and were very kind. We were only really staying there at night, because in the morning we would pack up and take off to adventure in the area and go kayaking. We had a roof top tent so finding the location and getting to a spot within the campsite that worked for us was very easy and convenient. There are some friendly fowls on the farm as the name implies and pigs that we said hello, it added to the appeal. I would recommend staying at this spot if you are in the area. Check out their description to learn more about their history and the history of this location and all they have to offer. You will enjoy your stay!

Friendly Fowl Farm
Sensational spot
Belinda and Tony have a beautiful spot nestled in to st Helena island! The pitch itself was beautiful, slightly tucked away to give a sense of privacy. They had left us a full container of water, even better as we arrived quite late! The chemical toilet and shower tent were a very welcome luxury as well. All in all we had a great experience at friendly fowl farm and are already planning our next trip back!
