The farm was once a portion of the McTureus Plantation. Tony's family members were once enslaved on the plantation. Upon Emancipation a family member bought land and it remained in the family. Tony is a descendant of those family members whose foresight allowed us to be here today. Tony's parents entrusted the care and preservation of the property to us and we are doing our best to be good stewards and teach the value of this property to our children and young grandchildren.

Friendly Fowl Farm
Culturally rich and amazing food
Nestled amongst the red oaks on the culturally rich St.Helenas Island. Belinda and Tony have created a special farm experience.
Evening we arrived they invited us to their Gullah Campfire Supper with Stories and Songs. An event sharing the history of the people and land. Serving up delicious food that they raised on their farm. The event was held under breathtaking oak trees. Both were gracious while our son tagged around with them on the farm tour.
Camp spot is beautiful under the tall trees. We didn't know much about St Helenas Island before we had arrived. Tony and Belinda taught us a lot and gave us a real cultural experience.
Be sure to get some delicious farm fresh eggs and homemade cinnamon rolls and biscuits with their honey. Seriously good!
Right down the road is Hunting Island State park which is worth a visit as well.
Thank you for a memorable stay, we'll definitely be back.

Friendly Fowl Farm
Site was exactly as advertised. My girls especially enjoyed looking at all the animals on the farm. Belinda and Tony met us and were so nice and welcoming (don’t forget to order a dozen of Belinda’s homemade cinnamon buns - delicious!!!). Tony was even nice enough to give me a tour of his new home built smokehouse, even though they were trying to leave to go out of town. Great family and great farm/campsites!!

Camping on Hunting Island!
Great host, they greeted us one morning and were very kind. We were only really staying there at night, because in the morning we would pack up and take off to adventure in the area and go kayaking. We had a roof top tent so finding the location and getting to a spot within the campsite that worked for us was very easy and convenient. There are some friendly fowls on the farm as the name implies and pigs that we said hello, it added to the appeal. I would recommend staying at this spot if you are in the area. Check out their description to learn more about their history and the history of this location and all they have to offer. You will enjoy your stay!

Friendly Fowl Farm
Sensational spot
Belinda and Tony have a beautiful spot nestled in to st Helena island! The pitch itself was beautiful, slightly tucked away to give a sense of privacy.
They had left us a full container of water, even better as we arrived quite late!
The chemical toilet and shower tent were a very welcome luxury as well.
All in all we had a great experience at friendly fowl farm and are already planning our next trip back!

LAND OF THE PEOPLE OF PEACE.
I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid. Leviticus 26.6
Camping on this farm was a wonderful experience for us. I wish we had more time and had prepared for this trip earlier. I love history and would have loved to take the tour and find out more about the Gullah people group of this region. Our focus on this trip was to take my daughter to the beach with her friend. I really enjoyed the state park beach. The whole area is very mellow and laid back. Definitely under-commercialized. If you go to the beach, oh my goodness take bug spray the biting flies are horrible. I was so glad we could come back to the farm where there was no biting flies!
We didnt see the host much but it was known to us that they were available if needed. the teenage girls on the trip commented that everyone who lived at the farm walked around with so much peace in their steps and voices. Which I thought was sweet so I wanted to mention it here.
I read over all the bad reviews given to this host. Because that is what I always do. It was a good reminder that some people will complain about anything they can. They dont really understand hipcamp and think its just a cheap Airbnb. I found all those complaints to be unfounded and humorous. I was looking to stay at the state park which was full, but so glad because the privacy and sweetness of this farm would have been a total miss for our trip.
