Hanscombe Point Plantation is a 300 acre working farm that has been in the Legare family for 9 generations. We raise beef cows, heritage breeds of pigs, laying hens, and water buffalo.  Additionally, we raise vegetables and do a lot of agri-tourism including: summer camps, school field trips, and a large pumpkin patch maze each year. Our accommodations include a vintage camper, primitive campsites along a salt water creek, and an RV area on our farm. We are located just 30 minutes from nearby beaches and downtown Charleston. Use our property as your base of operation as you have fun at the beach or tour the historic city, or just stay for a quiet get away in the woods. There is also a lot of wildlife such as: wild turkeys, woodstorks, raccoons, and alligators.  Fishing and crabbing are available on the salt water creek next to the campsite as well. We look forward to hosting you!

Hanscombe Point Plantation
One of the most calming and relaxing places to camp near Charleston. Second time here. My son and I love this place!

Site was fine, I arrived after sunset and it was pretty hard to figure out how to get to the campsite since you’ll go off-road, so caution if you know you’ll arrive at night.

Not private but great area
Overall a good experience, the directions were easy to follow and there was plenty of firewood available for sale. For me, the downside was there was zero privacy. The campsites are right on top of each other with nothing separating them, and while some people naturally space themselves out among the 9 campsites, you still might end up with someone setting up their tent 10 feet from yours. The sound carries very well, so expect to hear every sound every other camper makes. This seems like a great site for families (as there were several there at the time and the kids seemed to love it), and also for people looking to fish or crab trap on the creek (although they do leave their trash, my site was covered in crab shells). The outhouse was relatively clean, very stinky, but so was every pit outhouse I’ve used. Again, great if you’re looking to let your kids run around and look at cows and the creek, not so great if you’re looking for peace and quiet.

2 donkey’s were so cool
We had a great time. There were 6 other tent campers the 1 night we stayed. I believe we stayed at site #6 close the river. Our little buddy heater kept our tent nice an toasty inside. Only downside is the outhouse has a stench to it, but no worries 😉, we brought our own camp toilet 🚽/privacy shelter!!! We saw a few pigs, cows, an 2 awesome donkeys 🫏 , we stopped a gave em both gray an white donkey’s a good ole back rub. We’ll be back again because it’s close to our home in Summerville. Thank you

Playground site Charleston, SC area
Not what we Expected
We camp often. This is our 2nd farm. I loved the idea of camping at a farm again. My daughter did get to see cows, pigs and a dog. She did play on the playground. However, the playground site is not in a field. It is on the side of the road right at the front gate. It was dangerous for my daughter. The playground is very old and in need of a serious makeover. My truck and tent was 2 feet from the trucks rolling by. There was tons of dust from cars and trucks that came through the front gate all day and night for farm events etc... and the gate squeaks every time it is opened better than any horror story door. There is no privacy and the noise is all day and night. It wasn't peaceful or beautiful. The workers were mostly kind but I left a day early and would not return. Finally, I do not miss the view of the 5G tower!

We loved car camping here! The toilet was well maintained and the grounds were beautiful. We enjoyed walking around and seeing all the animals. We saw boars multiples which was an interesting experience, they just ignored us. We really loved this place and hope to be back!
