Hanscombe Point Plantation is a 300 acre working farm that has been in the Legare family for 9 generations. We raise beef cows, heritage breeds of pigs, laying hens, and water buffalo.  Additionally, we raise vegetables and do a lot of agri-tourism including: summer camps, school field trips, and a large pumpkin patch maze each year. Our accommodations include a vintage camper, primitive campsites along a salt water creek, and an RV area on our farm. We are located just 30 minutes from nearby beaches and downtown Charleston. Use our property as your base of operation as you have fun at the beach or tour the historic city, or just stay for a quiet get away in the woods. There is also a lot of wildlife such as: wild turkeys, woodstorks, raccoons, and alligators.  Fishing and crabbing are available on the salt water creek next to the campsite as well. We look forward to hosting you!

Great farm campsite near Charleston
We normally camp off the grid in National Forests, BLM grasslands, and the like. We were delighted to find a spacious outdoors site so close to Charleston!

The setting was nice and private as we stayed off-season and were the only campers there. Our boys loved the creek and the ability to set up a hammock to sleep outside. However, the site wasn't what we expected. The cows came roaming through the woods throughout the evening and night, providing entertainment for some and fear for others in our family. There was no toilet paper in the outhouse and thankfully, we had a roll in our pop-up trailer. The host was not friendly and never welcomed us or introduced herself to us. She came over demanding $10 for wood that we had used to start a campfire. We had thought the wood was free to use as there had been no signage for the price of wood. The site served its purpose, but maybe the experience is better in the summer during peak season.

Awesome
We had a great time here. The animals were fun to have around. There is a lot of cow poop but that was no surprise. Bring a shovel. Linda was very responsive. I would come back for sure.

nice pasture spot
It's a pasture, but it's remote and quiet. You will have to be careful to avoid stepping in the cow pies, but otherwise, a nice place to stay.

Good location but pretty run down
Overall, we had an okay experience but we would probably not come back. For full disclosure, this was our first Hipcamp stay but we have been rving for a little over a year. Pros - Location. We wanted to see the James Island Christmas lights and everything was booked. This site was only 20 minutes from the James Island County Park Kids had a blast at the playground. It is fully fenced in and they were able to run and play freely. We had gorgeous weather and were able to take advantage. Lots of picnic tables. Cons - Communication - Linda sent us the wrong code to get in the gate. We sat at the gate for 10 minutes unable to enter without hearing anything back from Linda. Finally some kind farm workers gave us the correct code. Then we got to the site and realized the “electric” is just a regular 20 amp outlet. I texted Linda to ask if this was correct and if she had 20/30 converter and she said she had no idea what I was talking about. Maybe this is obvious to others but it wasn’t to us. We had to drive 25 minutes to Lowe’s to buy a converter. Just an FYI to others who maybe didn’t understand this from the site description either. I don’t feel like the description/other reviews/pictures did justice to how run down this place is. While we never felt unsafe, right outside the playground gate is piles upon piles of farm junk.

Great off grid camping!
Linda’s land was a great little off grid camping experience. The sites had everything they need and even an outhouse for the whole camp. Would definitely come stay again!

Small Campsites: Gorgeous Scenic S
Beautiful, spacious property, though the only available campsites are less spacious. Very grateful for the views and farm animal visitations, but the actual camping aspect was lost on us. There is virtually no way to have a private conversation if there are any other campers staying. We could hear our tent neighbor on the phone all night. Aside from the size/proximity of the sites, the rest of the grounds are wonderful for some leisurely exploration.

Great location near Charleston. Recommend arriving before dark as navigating multiple camp sites can be a little confusing. Stayed a couple nights and it was a great spot to explore the Charleston area from.

Super cool spot
Full disclosure, we ended up not staying the full night due to tornadoes/severe storms in a front headed toward us (they had hit pretty bad earlier in the day back home). However, if that hadn’t happened we wouldn’t stayed and had a blast! It’s a gorgeous spot right on the water with lots of wildlife and animals. It was farther back off the road than expected on dirt roads/through fields (and with the storms our 2-wheel drive would’ve struggled) but we would bring a group of friends back here for sure and it would be a blast.

Unique camping experience
I live on a farm myself, so I was right at home camping here in this beautiful rural setting. The pet pig ran up and greeted us as soon as we arrived at camp. There were some cow patties around the site, but we brought a rake and cleaned up the area without much trouble. The creek at camp is beautiful and you can walk down to the point and see the stono river. Amazing nature views! We woke up to cows grazing in front of our site every morning And I got to play fetch with Rosie (: This place really has the potential to be a 5 star campground with alittle more work done. It is also pretty conveniently located for whatever activities you want. We were able to shrimp and fish nearby. My only critiques are - it would be cool if sites were alittle more spaced out. There is so much space for more secluded sites and a bigger camping area that extends father towards the point. The campground was full by Saturday. So I think extending the campground would add alot to this place! The dogs do tend to bark all night long. We had white noise apps on our phones to help us sleep. But if we didn’t have those or a fan going, it might’ve been a challenge to sleep in a tent with the noise around us. But all in all. Wonderful place. Would definitely come back

Great place to camp! Pretty close to everything. The animals were amazing and a surprise to look out your tent in the morning to 40 or so cows grazing. Met a nice dog who loved go play and one nice pig that comes right up to you. We had site 7 it was partially in the woods and field great site for shade and a breeze. Only thing negative was the road going in was alittle washed out with big holes but a nice man came by with a box blade and fixed them the 2nd day. Also I would suggest downloading a white noise app or bring earplugs as the animals (dogs, owls, pigs) at night can get loud. Would definitely come back to this place again.

Low Country Oasis
We really had a blast camping here. We had the entire site to ourselves for a couple days. The setting is absolutely gorgeous first week of October. We were greeted by so many animals they have roaming the vast lowland farm. The host was very pleasant and easy to work with. Firewood was already chopped and stored in several 20 gallon buckets just a few feet away. The campsite is in a piney grove tucked in-between the marshy shoals on one side, and a beautiful green pasture on the other were we would watch the sun set from the trees. The drive in is rather adventurous as well. You really get a feel for the country here.
