Since the farm is only open during the holiday season, in the off season you'll find a working farm (work being done, cars coming and going, etc.). Patchen is located only 10 mins from downtown Los Gatos in one direction and the Santa Cruz beach in the other direction. Perched at the summit of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Patchen offers the scenic beauty of lush redwood forests and views of the surrounding area. There are several wonderful wineries within 5 miles and great hiking and biking trails. The one and only store in the mountains is the Summit Store and just 3 miles down Summit Road. Expect a warm greeting upon arrival. To find us, an unmarked road, listed on maps as "Country Lane" (we call it Vega Vortex Rd). Parking is close to our Vega Vortex sign and a short walk to your tent. Filtered potable water, electricity, shower/toilet with an "on demand" hot/cold water are available. Instructions for use are available and should you need assistance - we are here for you! Experience 2 campsites, BYOT (bring your own tent or rent one from us) or an onsite Bell tent. The Bell tent contains carpeted padded flooring, camp lights, shelving, 2 cots with bedding, plus a memory foam camping mattress! The BYOT site's measurement is 10' x 10' . Both sites have shaded areas, and picnic tables. A shower and a compost toilet are available. Enjoy a designated smoking/vaping spot, multiple benches, and swings, a "grounding" spot, birding, water fountains and art. A no noise policy by the county occurs at 9 pm. Due to a high risk fire zone, no open fires. Due to the proximity of the tents right next to Vega Rd, sounds from vehicles can be heard. We are situated in a rural neighborhood setting, with sounds of sheep, goats, chickens, wild turkeys, dogs and many birds nestled between both counties. For enhanced protection we ask that a waiver be signed. Security cameras are on site. While respecting your privacy, we can be seen improving the property. The terrain is hilly and staying on paths limits poison oak exposure. Vega Vortex has been called a Park and Machu Picchu due to the amphitheater landscaping of terracing. Practicing permaculture, a diversity of pollinating plants/ flowers, organic garden and art features exist. Minutes away from National Parks, the Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk, Roaring Camp Train, Monterey Bay Aquarium, National Steinbeck Center, Moss Landing, Elkhorn Slough/Canoe/Kayak, Estuaries (bird watching), golfing and multiple beaches. You are not just paying for a place to sleep; you are paying for an experience and the enjoyment of our property :-). We serve a continental breakfast (free) or hot breakfast ($35/cabin) between 8-9am. (we can accommodate vegetarian and dairy free diets; let us know before you come). We provide bedding and towels. There is A/C and a plug-in heater in The Flying Pig. Please do not bring additional things to plug in except for chargers for phone/electronic devices. We are approximately 1 1/2 hours south of San Francisco, 30 min south of San Jose (without traffic). Gilroy Gardens is 15 min away; Harvey Bear County park is 1 mile away; Monterey and Santa Cruz and the Pinnacles National Park are approximately 1 hour away. We have great hiking in the near area and 5 miles away there is great mountain biking trails. A world renoun mountain bike spot with intermediate to experienced trails for riders of all levels. 5 miles down the road as well is buzzard lagoon and is a great Dirt biking/4-wheeling location. It is a fun spot for all off road inthusiast! Your camping site is on a flat plateu and is an ideal spot to park your trailer, motorhome or tent camp. With Complete privacy with views of the pacific ocean and South county's Monterey bay with a 180 degree view as well as San jose and Morgan Hill. For the wine inthusiast, Loma Prieta winery is 5.5 miles away along with Windy Oaks Winery that is 3.7 miles away that is located on the "Wine trail" that has alots of winerys to offer in a beautiful location. A Day of fun for the family at Gilroy Gardens that is 15.5 miles away. The beach is 30-40 minutes away with great surfing and body boarding up and down the coastline. We will see you soon!

Beautiful view at sunrise. Whether you come up from the Los Gatos or the Morgan Hill/Gilroy side, it will go off road but you just have to take it slow and the average car would do just fine. Great spot tho, perfect space for tent camping.

My husband and I were trying out a camper van rental and driving down the coast. This spot is fantastic - it has everything you would have at a typical campground - except the crowds! It’s quiet and peaceful with pretty views of strawberry fields and Ray and Robin are lovely hosts; they gave us fresh eggs! As others have said there is a beautiful beach about an 8 min walk away that is dog friendly. We would definitely stay there again!

I had originally booked site 1 to be closer to the restroom, but was told that someone that was currently staying there extended their stay. Jing was very prompt & kind to offer us other campsites within the area. We ended staying at Site 3 instead, which actually worked out much better in my honest opinion. It was literally right next to the hiking trail that my buddies went on. However site 3 was advertised as (Near Restroom) but it really isn't. It's a pretty long walk up and down a hill to get it. Luckily we paid for the extra car, which ended up being our vehicle to drive to the restroom. I don't think that would make me not recommend to stay at here. We made it work. Overall our stay was super nice, memories were made with friends & family. The redwoods provided so much shade and we felt cool all day. Not to mention sunset was really nice as well. We walked & drove past the group campsite and probably would plan another stay at that site next time. Thank you for the hospitality! We'll be back!

Beautiful trees surround the group site’s flat ground. But each individual campsite looked pristine, the most south ones especially. Plenty of picnic tables, bathrooms suitable, water food. There’s also 15 min hike straight down to a creek. Gorgeous spot!

Skid camp was a perfect spot for off the beaten path, for a quiet night. It’s located very close to Madonna County Park that offers amazing hiking as well as other activities. There is a small fire ring and bench made out of logs. We were able to gather fire wood easily. No bells and whistles, just a freshly skidded road with a campable landing. Recommend 4x4 for much easier access—the drive out off the mountain in the morning was truly beautiful.

This is helpful for guests who have separate rigs but want to be close to each other. Our property is a great base camp for your Santa Cruz and Monterey County adventures! We are 15 minutes from Capitola Village, 30 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz and 45 minutes to Monterey. We love to host guests and will provide information about things to do and see in our area. Astonishing, expansive views of Monterey Bay, the Santa Lucia Mountains, the Salinas Valley, the San Benito Valley—just wow.

You can drive the 11 miles from the Mission San Juan Bautista. From there, the hike isn't too tough to reach the summit. (But watch out for broken rocks during the final rock scramble.) Don't rush it—You're going to want some time to sit and take it all in.

Come back at night, since this California state park hosts the Fremont Peak Observatory. A 30-inch telescope is open to the public for special programs on certain nights (check first). Or bring your own telescope and gather round to view the heavens.

This mountaintop park also has camping and picnic facilities. You can choose from 25 campsites (we like the view from #8 the best). Be warned, though—the facilities are, well, let's call them rustic. This is a prime park to visit if you're looking for peace and quiet—Try to arrive during the daytime so your headlights don't disturb stargazers.

Doe Flat Group Campground
I’ve been to Fremont Peak campground several times asi live nearby. Be advised that it is usually very windy in the afternoons so tie everything down. The winds come in from the coast so it can be cold in the spring and fall. Nice views, but not much hiking or things to do.

Oak Point and Valley View Campground
This is for Valley View Campground. Stayed there Sept 2021. Nice small campground. I stayed in Site 7 with a 17ft trailer & it was perfect. Shade all day over the driveway spot & the tent area/table had shade all morning. The view from this site is spectacular, you can look down at the valley & city below. My only complaint is the the ridiculous amount of flies! They didn't bite, but they were very nosey. Had TMobile cell service throughout the campground.

We stayed in Valley View. Pleasantly small. Not much to do if you have small kids who can’t do steep trails yet. Site 7 is completely exposed, to the point of being uninhabitable during hot afternoons. Site 8 has the best view. Other nice options were 3, 4, 5, 9 & 10. All in all, a nice campground not too far from civilization. Just avoid site 7 if it’s warm.

Camped here for NYE this past year with friends. It was empty! Reached cool temperatures and we even witnessed some falling snow our last night. The right gear makes all of the difference! The views were beautiful. Sites were a tad small (there were three couples in our group). Vault toilets are never nice but weren't as bad because of the cold.

No running water in the bathrooms. Overall the campsite area is small and the trails connect from the campsite to the Fremont Peak trail

LOVED Fremont peak. Beautiful area, easy access from the bay. Had a site with an amazing view of the valley below, and the views from the peak are stunning.

If you stay at the weekend the public picnic/barbecue area can be a little noisy for those sites in Oak Point that are close by, so if you want quiet during the day, aim to get a site at the other end.
