Spring, Summer and Fall are the best times to come for a visit. NOW is the time to book your experience with us. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well. The property consists of a mixture of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. It is also not uncommon to see Bald Eagles soaring over the fields looking for their next meal. All of the property is easily accessible via our extensive trail system. There is also another 187 acres that borders our land that also has trails that would allow hiking. We have detailed maps so that getting lost would be the least of your worries. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Our farm is just 6 miles from the village, Bovina Center. Bovina Center is close to Roxbury, Margaretville, Andes, Delhi, Stamford, and Hobart all great places to explore for galleries, bookstores, restaurants, antiques, happenings, fairs and festivals. In Bovina Center we have a destination restaurant, Brushland, a general store, Russels, a new local brewery, Bovina Farm and Fermentory. There is hiking right from our town, on Bramley Mountain that's 2,812 feet. The elevation at Meanwhile Back At The Farm is 2030 feet. We have a very nice walk right from the tent sites, on our dirt road. Its a 3 mile loop. If you want to bicycle on the dirt road, a mountain bike is recommended. Of course you are welcome to stay put! Sit, read, meditate, sleep, do yoga or other mind/body practices on our open-air yoga platform, Nandi Yoga Pavilion. It was a cinderblock extension of the cow barn. We took it down and used the foundation for the pavilion.

At night, enjoy incredible stargazing far from the city lights. The pond features a pebble beach with gradual entry and reaches 16 feet deep in the center. Swim out to the floating dock, cast a line for largemouth bass, or enjoy the use of our canoe. (*Swimming is at your own risk, and life jackets are recommended for non-confident swimmers.) Explore the “Fossil Creek Trail,” which winds through the woods down to a slate-bottom creek where fossils can often be found during the drier months. The cool, shaded woods are perfect for relaxing with a book, enjoying a picnic, or simply listening to the sounds of the creek. Several mowed walking trails loop around the pond and throughout the property, giving you plenty of space to explore and unwind. During your stay, think of this land as your own private retreat — a place to disconnect, recharge, and reconnect with nature. Loved it here! I camped in the woods and Todd was so hospitable. It has just rained and the forest was lush with mushrooms of every color. An evening hike was a highlight, and I appreciated the water jug, table, and fire ring. There’s even a clean, enclosed composting outhouse a few steps away. Highly recommend!

4 nights at Horses & Nature Extravaganza!

I was camping in my car along the edge of the woods (Site 2) for 4 days and enjoyed the visits from the horses - magical and memorable! It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience and Lisa and Ed were helpful and welcoming. It was exactly the horse hangout experience I was hoping for. I found it worked great to simply time my cooking, working, or other “getting stuff out” activities for when the horses were on the far end of the pasture, and putting things away in my car when the horses started grazing closer. Then once they were close, I could fully focus on visiting with them (and saying “no” to anyone tugging on my mesh window screens, which did the trick). Keep in mind that the horses will investigate anything they can reach when the herd drifts your way 2-3 times a day (which may include licking, nibbling, pushing, etc. of your stuff), so don’t leave anything out that they could damage or that would not be safe for them to eat. As Lisa said, they’re like large toddlers! The horses were always quite friendly and pleasant to me but had the occasional horse drama where they chased each other, so just heed the hosts’ advice to not be in the middle of the herd. With that in mind, you can enjoy meeting the horses (and foals!!), exploring the woods and pasture, building a fire under starry skies, trying farm fresh eggs and maple syrup, and everything the farm has to offer!

I have a list of things I look for when I'm booking a campsite. At the top of that list is privacy. This campsite fits that. The spot is in the woods with no other site, or house etc. around. It's just you and the wildlife. It's not too far off the road and easy to get to, but still secluded enough to feel private. The lean-to is great if it starts to get buggy. We cooked some food over the fire and our dog loved to run around the field at the site. Getting to the water is a short hike but worth it. Just make sure you wear the right footwear! This is definitely a site worth visiting again for some time away but still being able to access modern convivences. Also wanted to mention- we have Verizon and had cell service. PS- Make sure you check out the farm stand!

Its a great spot! He is a very good host. I caught two Brown trout at sunrise in the third week of July. Deer, birds, good views and the fire pit is nice. I would recommend the property to anyone! :)

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Chris at the farm house. We purchased $20 worth of wood that he brought to our site and stacked for us. Chris then showed us to our site and explained the property map provided. Also provided, in the lean-to, were sheets of information with things to do in the area, emergency numbers, etc. While the site isn’t as close to the water as we’d hoped, you can hike down. There aren’t many great places to get in down there, so you’re better off driving the path to the screen house (if the site isn’t occupied). If you’re tenting, and want to be closer to the water, I recommend that site. If you’re looking for more quiet, privacy, with soft grass to play yard games in, the lean-to site is perfect. You can walk, or drive, down to the “swim area” where you’ll get to chat with all the fun tubers floating by. The site is very spacious, flat enough, and sunny, with a bit of shade. By the lean-to, there’s enough room for maybe 4-6 people to sit by the fire. The fireplace is on the edge of a cliff overlooking the creek. Great view and the sound of the moving water is very relaxing. In addition to the lean-to, you’re provided a picnic table, 2 chairs, and 2 benches outside. 2 chairs, a small table, and a lantern inside. There’s a clean outhouse with TP, hand sanitizer, and hand wipes. If you forgot anything, the stores are only minutes away. We picked up some zucchini, shitake mushrooms, and carved wood mushrooms at the farm stand here as well.

We had a wonderful stay at the Meadow Campsite at Scared Waterfall. The campsite was very private with beautiful mountain views, and the waterfall was the highlight of our trip. It’s about a 10–15 minute walk with one short steep section that’s well worth it. If you plan to explore the waterfall, I’d recommend bringing water shoes or sturdy footwear since the rocks can be slippery. The community barn silo was a nice bonus with thoughtful amenities and local recommendations. The campsite is close to the main road, so you may occasionally hear trucks, along with some dogs barking or people talking in the evening, but it didn’t take away from our experience. The host was very responsive and helpful when we had a question, and we’d happily stay here again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic getaway.

We had a wonderful stay at Coyote Hollow Site 2! Even though it rained most of the weekend, the glamping tent kept us warm and dry. The hosts were incredibly friendly and had thought of every detail to make our stay comfortable. The site was quiet, clean, and peaceful. Breakfast offered a great variety, and we loved the free-roaming chickens and ducks. We’d happily stay here again and highly recommend it!

The tent and site were perfect! Even better than advertised. The location is amazing-- so close to town but very private and quiet. The tent was spacious and the mattress was comfortable. A small cupboard outside contained a few necessary items we forgot-- namely bug spray and a lighter for the campfire. I intend to stay here again in the future. Beware that the road leading up to the site is a little rough.

About

Immortalized as “Glimmerglass Lake” in James Fenimore Cooper’s classic “Leatherstocking Tales” novels, the storybook scenery of this state park should come as little surprise. Follow the wooded trails down to the shores of Otsego Lake, where you can picnic on the sandy beach, cool off with a swim, or rent a kayak to paddle out across the lake. Away from the water, peek inside the historic Hyde Hall, admire the Hyde Hall Covered Bridge (the oldest in the country), then head to Shadow Brook to check into Glimmerglass State Campground.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve one of 50 campsites at Glimmerglass State Campground via the Reserve America website. A 2-night minimum stay applies.
Online reservations open nine months in advance and can be made up until 3pm on the day of arrival.
Campsites can book up fast for summer and holiday weekends, so book at least three months in advance. Just six sites have electric hookups, and these spots tend to book up first.

When to go

Camping season at Glimmerglass runs from May through September, a great time for swimming and watersports. Seasonal activities take place year-round, with hiking and biking tracks transforming into snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails come winter, and boating and fishing giving way to ice skating and ice fishing. An added bonus for off-season visitors—no admission fee after Labor Day.

Know before you go

Glimmerglass State Park is set along the northeastern shore of Otsego Lake, about a 10-minute drive north of Cooperstown.
Day-use parking fees apply at all New York state parks, as well as campsite booking fees. Vehicle fees at Glimmerglass are waived in low season.
Park facilities include restrooms, picnic areas, a concession stand, a playground, and a basketball court. Accessible campsites, parking, and restrooms are available, and The Meadow hiking trail is also accessible.
