This is a quaint, off grid cabin located in Elliotsville, Me., surrounded by wilderness, next to the Appalachian Trail in the 100 Mile Wilderness. Propane lights, glass front woodstove, fully operational kitchen, propane cookstove, fire pit out front, BBQ grill on porch. Firewood and propane and plenty of water at sink provided. 2 8ft kayaks for your use to explore all the ponds and lakes nearby. You can spend days or weeks exploring the area, hiking, biking, canoeing, mountain climbing and swimming. Its like going back in time a hundred years but you have some cell reception, unlike our ancestors. Have made several improvements to cabin not yet reflected in guest photos. Yeti type cooler provided for refrigeration of food for longer stays. The cabin is small but can accommodate 5 easily. Queen bed with bunk beds in 1st floor bedroom, full size and twin bed in upstairs bedroom. Clean linens provided. Open kitchen and living room. Seems like most people love it. Pretty sure you will too. So much to do in the area. Be as bored or as active as you want. Welcome book with directions to local spots all very close. Waterfalls, the most beautiful lake (Onawa), swimming holes... all close by. Appalachian trail out back. Other sites close by must be driven to but close by still, away from town. Spacious Skies Balsam Woods is a hidden paradise of a campground located right in the heart of Maine, just a half hour south of Moosehead Lake, the largest lake in Maine, and 60 miles as the crow flies from the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, Mt. Katahdin, in Baxter State Park.
We offer both wooded and open sites that can accommodate most rigs. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, water, 30 or 50-amp electrical service, and most offer sewer. Groups and tent campers are welcome.

We are set high on the piney east bank of the Kennebec River. The view is of the setting sun over the untouched hillsides on the opposite bank or the rising sun illuminating and bringing to life that same hillside while you take your first peak of morning. The river rushes by, not a house to be seen. In the distance a loon frolics and sings out it's soulful call.
Bald eagles soar over head, fishing, scanning the river valley. Owls hooting in the valley, come closer in the night to see who is still up. There is an echo in the darkness, works during the day too. The stars blaze overhead in the night sky, watch "satellites" track across heavens and the Aurora Borealis, if you are lucky and still up around the camp fire.
It is here in front of our camp, where The Kennebec River continues to flow but begins slowing down, stacking up depth behind the Moscow Dam and turning into Wyman Lake, 14 miles of the most scenic boating or paddling you can imagine.
200 yards north of the camp, The Appalachian Trail crosses the river, watch hikers waiting for the famous canoe ferry crossing. Or, hike a section of the trail, Pierce Pond is a healthy 2 hr hike from the camp, to a pristine pond for a remote dip or some fishing.
Bring that kayak or stand up paddle board, the river is fun right here, explore for an hour, a day or days. Whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing are huge in West Forks, (10 minutes North up 201, watch out for deer and moose) you'll paddle The Dead, The Kennebec and the Penobscot rivers, all the major tour companies are very local and there are cool bars and restaurants.
You can tube down from the Forks right to the cabin in a couple of hours.
We have a big high and dry platform for your tent and the whole space all to yourselves.

Conveniently located at the top of Murray Street and only a few minutes from downtown Bingham. The winding dirt roads are perfect for a bike ride or hike. Watch your dog flush a partridge or your little ones explore beautiful Jackson brook. Quiet solitude is what you will find here. There are no motorized sports allowed on this property. Sorry, but ATV access is not available.
North Country Rivers is only 5 minutes away for your rafting experience. Wyman lake has a wonderful public swimming area and boat launch 15 minutes away in Pleasant Ridge and the Bingham Kennebec River boat launch is just a few minutes away. We invite you to come stay at our location in the Western Maine mountains. We are located off of the Long Falls Dam Rd in Carrying Place Township, in the heart of Maine's wilderness. Our property offers beautiful mountain views; many nearby hiking trails; nearby swimming, boating, fishing and kayaking at Flagstaff Lake; along with numerous back roads to explore and look for wildlife. You can also find ATV trails about a half hour drive away in the town of Kingfield. Ensure you are guaranteed a spot just outside the Bigelow Preserve and everything it has to offer. Our sites sit behind a locked gate that is monitored 24/7 with a security camera. Also, although we are remote, we do offer Wi-Fi for your convenience.
Please take note that our sites are remote. We may be right off a paved road, but the closest town with a store is a half an hour drive. Also be mindful that this is the Maine wilderness, there are wild animals that frequent our location, along with biting insects such as deer flies and mosquitoes. This truly is a beautiful location, but please be sure to pack accordingly for your stay.

Our sites have plenty of trees, no light pollution, access to ATV and hiking trails. Each site has a fire ring, trash can, picnic table and are large. Primitve sites have a fire ring only. Cross the seasonal pond tobe away from it all. But we are still 45 minutes away from Bangor and 30 from Dover Foxcroft. Drive to Belfast to the coast for the day(1 hour and 10) or enjoy nature at our off-grid property.

Big Moose Inn Cabins & CampgroundIrving O. Hunt and his brother Lyman built some rough camps on Millinocket Lake before they became interested in the Nesowadnehunk Stream region. Whether or not their old camps were at the same site as the present camps on Millinocket Lake we do not know.The Millinocket Lake Camps, known today as Big Moose Inn, are located on a narrow spit of land separating Ambejejus Lake and Millinocket Lake. Before a dam controlled Ambajejus’ water level, it was possible to pole up the short stream from Millinocket Lake into Ambejejus.Fred Spencer build the camps, originally named Camp Eureka, in 1899 or 1900 and ran them with his brother. With the founding of Millinocket only a few years earlier and lumbering roads nearing Katahdin, the two lakes became more easily accessible. Camp Eureka was advertised as the only camp reachable by both boat (from Norcross) and road (from Millinocket). In 1905, the rate was $1.50 per day, meals included. Spencer also claimed the lakes had no flies or mosquitoes during spring and summer- a phenomenon caused by the way winds blow across the lakes, which makes it difficult for insects to gain a foothold.The camps’ name changed to Camp Spencer and later to Spencer’s Camps. Around 1929 the lease was transferred to Elmer Woodworth, who lived with his wife on a nearby island while they operated the camps. Elmer, a well-known guide, trapped over the winter, and his wife served as the camp cook. The couple soon renamed the camps Millinocket Lake Camps and Trading Post. They also maintained an outlying camp on Sandy Stream for their guests. In 1941, a major fire broke out in the area. The Woodworths saved the camps by wetting them down, but lost their island home when a stray spark jumped the cove. There is some evidence that, for a short time, a gentleman named Johnny Given either held the lease or managed the camps for the Woodworths. Except for that brief change the Woodworths operated the camps for many years until they passed the lease on to their son Ray, who ran them with his wife Muriel.In 1977, the lease was transferred to Bob and Frederica (“Teddy”) Boynton, who in 1981 sold the trading post to Erwin and Maureen Bacon. The Boyntons retained the sporting camp operation and later added a public restaurant. Teddy renamed the camps Big Moose Inn. Bob and his son Bruce made many renovations to the camps, while Teddy decorated and furnished them. The Boynton Family has remained involved in the success of the inn and restaurant. After Teddy’s death in 1991, management passed to Bruce and his sister Laurie, but Bob and other family members are still very involved.The dam separates the flowages of the two lakes. Millinocket Lake is about eight feet above its original level, and Ambajejus is now some 21 feet above its original level. The lucky ones get a glimpse of a Moose.Maybe you prefer Biking or golfing in Carrabassett at Sugarloaf, hiking in Coos Canyon in Weld, Whitewater Rafting in the Forks Certain times of the year folks take tubes floating down the Sandy River. Escape to your own private corner of the Maine woods at the Borestone Bungalow. This handcrafted off-grid cabin sits near Borestone Mountain, the Appalachian Trail, the 100-Mile Wilderness and some of the region’s best hiking, paddling and fishing.
Spend the day exploring and come home to a cozy cabin, screened-in porch, fire pit and quiet woods. The cabin sleeps up to three and includes solar power, Wi-Fi, a propane range, gas grill, indoor and outdoor sinks, and a new 6-cu-ft 12V refrigerator.
This is intentionally an off-grid experience. There is no running water; guests bring drinking/cooking water or can obtain water from the nearby river. Electricity is supplied by solar power, and Wi-Fi availability depends on available solar energy.
The cabin has a two-seat pit toilet outhouse. Guests should bring their own bedding/sleeping bags and are asked to take their trash with them and leave the spaces clean.

Weekend Trip to Borestone Bungalow | Off-Grid Cabin
Borestone Bungalow was clean, cozy, and very comfortable. The camp is new, and well furnished with everything you need, including solar electricity, propane backup lighting, a refrigerator, gas stove, wood stove and kitchenware. It’s still somewhat rustic—no running water and an outhouse—but some water is provided and the outhouse was very clean - I was totally at ease. The setting is incredibly quiet and peaceful, and I loved listening to the morning birds from the screened porch. The few afternoon trains never bothered me. It’s also perfectly located near Borestone Mountain hiking trails and swimming spots along Big and Little Wilson Streams. The host was responsive and helpful. The description notes the steep driveway, but my low-clearance Hyundai Sonata handled it without a problem.
I highly recommend if you want to escape into nature yet still have access to many modern conveniences. Great stay and I’d be happy to stay again.

Stayed here with my wife over Labor Day weekend. We have stayed at many Hipcamp locations and the quality of this site is the best we've encountered. Not talking about the location--which is also fabulous. The site is clean and well organized, Trash and recycling on the premises and a ton of firewood is included. Kyle has a poker for the fire and a grate I'd actual cook on. As mentioned in other reviews, the site has the nicest outhouse on the planet. This place would be a blast for multiple families. There are 3 fairly level tent plots that are spaced apart.
The location is also spectacular. Trees provide a canopy for shade and a small amount of protection from the rain.
Would definitely come back.

Josiah’s land was beautiful and easy to access! There are two routes in from the main road, but the Junction road worked great for our 32’ ft trailer. There was a fire pit ready and plenty of downed branches to keep us going. The walk to river was short and well worth it (though there is a nice view from the edge of the site). Lots of wildlife and and a peaceful environment. We will definitely be coming back!

Weekend Trip to 100 Mile Wilderness Cabin
The cabin was just what I was looking for! Feels remote, but has many conveniences. The gas lanterns and stove were fantastic and the cabin was really well stocked with firewood and starters. The shower was creative and nice (boil some hot water first). The toilet was clean and easy to use with a refill tank and hose at the ready. The trails were great as well and very easy to navigate. Perfect get away!

Beautiful camping area with an even more beautiful view! Lights for night time made it so much easier to do things as well. Got to watch the tiny pickeral by the doc and watch the super cool moon while having a fire! Highly recommend and will be back! We had a fantastic weekend at Leketa and Hillary’s land! The camping spaces are secluded and quiet, right along the water. The tent platforms are very helpful, and the grill grate provided is ideal for cooking over the fire. Having coffee and watching the sun come up over the water was absolutely perfect! There are tons of birds, we heard eagles and loons each evening. Next time we’ll make sure to bring our kayaks and fishing poles. Leketa and Hillary are amazing, they made us feel right at home and communication is on point! We can’t wait to come back! 😊🏕️

Amazing campsite and was the perfect basecamp to entering Baxter State Park for a first come/first serve Katahdin permit. The site is far from the main road and is very quiet. Use caution with the site's driveways. I found them to be fairly narrow. I damaged my car on a rotten pine stump trying to turn out of it due to making too sharp a turn. Be extremely careful backing out. The driveways aren't technical or unusual for a primitive campsite, but are narrow/a little awkward. Outside of that, it was absolutely amazing. I'd stay again!

Simply spectacular… a most beautiful and very private spot with lots of thoughtful details like wood chip areas to keep down dirt and mud and a lovely outhouse. Tons of space with 3 neatly evened tent sites. We had a 20 ft travel trailer which we managed to tuck into the site . Road is right there but only one or two cars passed all evening. Note, road from Howlin has about a 3 mile stretch that is washboard dirt. We left by going towards Milo and that avoided the dirt road section.
