The Historic Farm was purchased by Townsend Thorndike from the first colonizing family to claim ownership of this unceded land, the McCrillis family. It was Town's place to get away from the busy life. As time went on and his money dwindled and plans to sell off some of the land arose.
Townsend's son, Nick, foresaw a devastating development of conventional homes that would diminish the soul of this sacred land that held so much magic. So, Nick decided to move back to the homestead to create an example of what a healthy life for the land and its inhabitants looks like. HipCamp was the first step towards sharing and opening up the land to create an Intentional lifestyle. One in which we hope to share our way of being that brings awareness to the natural world we have fallen so far from. Nick and his tribe of like minds are creating a holistic, educational, retreat, workshop, and event center where people can come to learn how to co-exist in a harmonious relationship with nature and each other. Wandering Pines is a little slice of magic in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire. Our sites range in size and privacy and offer field or wooded land. The sites are near our Small House on 5 acres but far enough away to feel private. We currently have 2 large campsites, 5 primitive walk in sites, 3 Pick your own sites, 3 park and sleep sites and 2 RV camper sites. Our hip camp sites are set up to be self sufficient. If you arrive after dark you may have a harder time finding a site. We are not always home or awake when you arrive. If our sites are booked, please message me. We have a ton of space and can accommodate you somewhere!
During the warmer months(April-Early December) all the sites have access to water and a primitive outhouse and handwashing/dishwashing station. Firewood can be purchased. Please check our extras for other items for purchase.
We have wetlands and overgrown fields so there may be bugs and other animals at any given time. Bug spray is recommended.
Although black bears are generally shy and usually avoid humans, they are opportunistic and will search for human food supplies when natural foods are not available. Maintaining a sustainable bear population in New Hampshire depends on minimizing human-bear conflicts. It is illegal to intentionally feed bears in New Hampshire. Intentional feeding can create problems within residential areas and can result in fines. It also may threaten the life of the bear, if it becomes a nuisance animal as a result of this feeding. Please keep your food in your car when you are not at the site and when you are sleeping.
The property has views of Mount Martha and the Presidential Mountain Range. There are easy walking trails throughout the property. There is a field to play games; Soccer, wiffle ball, corn hole and yard croquet can be used. Just ask

We maintain pollinator habitats, tend an fledgling orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle. Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. We have three 10x12 glamping tents tucked away in the forest on 6 acres, behind our home with glimpses of the surrounding mountains through the trees.
Private and tranquil- each tent has a queen sized bed with flannel sheets, a light comforter, and a lantern.
The front porch has two Adirondack chairs looking out over the forest. Each campsite has a fire pit, picnic table, and a cabinet filled with basic cook wear, plates and cups, a French press, kettle, and utensils for making meals over a campfire.
Our double-header outhouse is clean and beautiful- a guest favorite!
There is a short 1/8 mile walk through the woods to the camp- we provide garden wagons to tote your gear.

Rustic Farm Camping in the White Mountains
Welcome to our peaceful field on a historic 7th-generation farm in Whitefield, NH—nestled in the heart of the White Mountains. Just minutes from downtown and surrounded by lakes, rivers, trails, breweries, and local eats, our location is perfect for outdoor explorers and weekend wanderers. We’re near the Heritage Trail and right on the Cross New Hampshire Adventure Trail route—great for bikers and hikers.
Our field offers star-filled skies, monarch butterflies, and frequent visits from deer and other wildlife. We intentionally keep the area wild and unmowed to support native species and maintain the natural beauty of the land.
This is a very rustic, off-grid campsite—best for those who appreciate nature and are prepared to rough it. There are no hookups, electricity, or potable water. An outhouse compost toilet is available (bring your own TP). No showers or dump stations. Please do not dump grey/black water anywhere on the property.
We allow small RVs, vans, and trailers under 24 ft. No 5th wheels. 4WD is recommended but not required. Garden carts are available, upon request, to haul gear if needed.
Important to Know:
No pets (we’re a working farm with chickens and farm dogs).
Fires allowed only in designated pit. Bring firewood (or purchase from us) and always follow fire bans.
Pack out your trash (small bin next to outhouse provided for cans/bottles).
No cutting trees or using the large bonfire pile in the center of the field.
Arrive before dark—there are no lights on site or along the field road.
If muddy, you may need to park at the bottom of the access road.
We rent to up to 3 groups per night, sites are first come, first serve.
Our family farmhouse dates back to the 1850s, with five remaining acres including the barn, fields, and woods. We offer farm-fresh eggs and seasonal produce when available.
Bears & Wildlife:
This is bear country. Store all food, coolers, and scented items in your vehicle. Never keep food in your tent, and keep your campsite clean at all times.

The right to roam, also called the right of access, or everyman's right(“allemannsretten”) is a traditional right from ancient times, and since 1957 has also been a part of the Norwegian Outdoor Recreation Act. It ensures that everybody gets to experience nature, even on larger privately owned
areas.
In our travels to Norway, we learned of this law and loved the concept so much we brought it back with us to America. Yet we had no land to offer. So, we searched...and searched....and searched some more. Then we found what would become camp Streife. 20 acres of uncut timber growth forest, tucked in the hills of Rumford Maine. With a nearby brook, pond and within 20 minutes of some of our favorite ski locations it was just right.
The rules of this law are simple.
Be considerate and thoughtful. Don't damage nature and other surroundings. Leave the landscape as you would want to find it. Leave no trace. You may put up a tent, or sleep under the stars, for the night anywhere in the countryside, forests or mountains, as long as you keep at least 500 feet away from the nearest inhabited house or cabin. This rule of 500 feet distance also applies to camping cars and
caravans.
If you want to stay for more than two nights in the same place, you must
ask the landowner's permission, except in the mountains or very remote
areas.

This is a 200 year old farm filled with life. There are well groomed areas and other more wild areas. We are on almost 13 acres of land that attracts all forms of natural wildlife. In addition, we have alpacas, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs, a cat and chickens. There is a beaver pond on the lower property.
Each site includes a place to sit and eat (ie. picnic table), fire pit and just breathtaking views. Campers can drive into and park at their site. Each site is separate and private from other sites.

We have two outdoor showers that are very rustic and open and the water is the temperature of the surrounding air (bring a bathing suit or something to shower in, there is no privacy fence at this time) This is an active farm that has an operating butcher shop on the premises. We have a farm store offering a variety of items for sale including eggs, honey, rubs and much more. There is a microwave available to the campers in the farm store as well. Each site will be given a bundle of fire wood on the house, additional wood is for sale. You are welcome to participate in farm work. Coffee (from a local NH roaster), tea, hot chocolate and potable water (from the faucet) will be available daily. We are a farm family with young children so large and rowdy or drinking parties are very heavily discouraged.

Camping here at the hostel is a great option for those who are looking for the economic price point and rugged nature of camping, while still having the amenities of modern living.
"What should I expect my experience to be like?"
Being a hostel, the experience we offer is a community focused one. Sites are setup similar to rooms in the hostel. They are located in fairly close proximity to one another and feature (in addition to private fire pits in the sites) one large community fire ring at the center of the property.
Parking and camping are located at the rear of the Hostel property.
Out back features several campsites, a community fire ring, picnic table, and charcoal grill. Parking is first come, first serve, but there is plenty of street parking available along Washington St (Summertime street parking. In winter, town hall may be used as overflow parking.).
Amenities:
For Sites 1-4, the hostel is yours to access. Use the back porch and side entrances (Access code will be given to you during check-in). Inside you’ll find… Full community kitchen, bathrooms/hot showers, dining area, and lounge area.
Breakfast: Pancake mix provided in the community kitchen.
Dorm style bathroom facilities on the second floor have two toilets and shower stalls each. PLEASE NOTE: Towels can be rented for $5, or bring your own for free.

Nestled on the shoulder of Mount Cabot (4180'), our hillside yurt has a stunning vista of the Connecticut River Valley, with Mt. Lafayette to the south and the Green Mountains to the west. Decompress with a hot outdoor shower and cook over the outdoor firepit as the sun blazes toward the horizon, and look up through the yurt's skylight as you revel in spacious night among the stars. The yurt is grid-powered, the stars aren't.
For an even more immersive nature experience, The Orchard on Apple Hill road is ready for your tent or hammock, along with an outdoor kitchen, two hot showers and compost toilets, picnic tables and firepit, and propane cooking burners. The Orchard's solar kit can charge your equipment and boil a kettle for your hot morning cup.
The Pond on The Hillside is open to guests for swimming or skating at the case may be.
If you'd like to reserve our woodfired hot tub, please do so at least 7 days before your arrival so we have time to schedule the firemaster.
Firewood is included with all sites, so please don't travel with firewood as it's a great way to transport forest-devastating invasive insects.
Hikers are welcome to wander along old logging roads through our sugarbush, and along trails throughout the remainder of the property (300+ ac. total) where there are numerous springs and creeks, mystical softwoods, expansive grassy fields, and a wild apple orchard. Moose, deer, and bear tracks are common, but animal encounters are not - still, please sequester your food accordingly and be mindful to carry out scraps or place them in lidded containers.

Jamberry Farm owners Adrienne and James met in 2013 while living in Denver, Colorado. They spent 10 fun-filled and adventurous years traveling throughout the Western U.S. After having their first child in 2019, they moved to Oregon to be part of a team opening an inn on the Oregon Coast.
When COVID-19 began in early 2020, the couple saw the writing on the wall and decided to make their dream of owning property in Maine a reality. In August 2020, they purchased Jamberry Farm and moved to Harrison, Maine.
The 33-acre budding homestead sits atop a hill in Southern Maine’s Lakes and Mountains Region. Harrison is a charming small town situated between Long Lake and Crystal Lake. In town, you’ll find everything you need for a visit to small-town New England. There are two general stores, a restaurant, an ice cream shop, a library, and a post office.
Should you need or want access to more, it’s a short drive to the larger towns of Norway and Bridgton, about an hour to Portland, and approximately 45 minutes to North Conway, New Hampshire, and the White Mountains. A 5- to 20-minute drive will take you to beautiful scenic hikes, cozy lake beaches, and meandering rivers where you can float or fish.
The farm is truly in the perfect location to experience all that this part of New England has to offer.
James and Adrienne have always enjoyed hosting friends and family from near and far. Adrienne has a degree in Hospitality Management and spent her career working in the service industry until she stepped away to stay home with her children. James is a carpenter whose craftsmanship shines through in projects all around the property, including their flagship rental accommodation, The Tiny House.
Jamberry Farm is a place where both of their experience and expertise come together to create a unique and personalized experience for their guests. It is their hope that when people come to stay at the farm, they feel safe, connected to the nature around them, and grounded in the peace and stillness that a slower life on a farm has to offer.

We are off the beaten path in the forest near the White Mountain National Forest. A 6 to 8 minute hike from your site gets you to a private lake.
We have two local waterfalls only 2 miles away. Drive back out to 5 Kezars road. Take a right on the paved road. It will turn back into dirt. Keep on this road until you see a beautiful stone house on your left. Keep going just up the hill and you will see a right turn into the woods where you can park. There are no signs for Kezar gorge. Hike towards the sound of the falls. There is a small cave under the falls you can climb up into if you are a strong swimmer. There is a second set of falls if you hike down the river. A most magical spot for sure.
There is a beautiful hike to a mountain lookout view of an amazing panoramic of lakes and mountains including Mt Washington and Pleasant Ski mountain right from your site. Here is a link for all Greater Lovell Land trust trails: https://www.gllt.org/five-kezars-reserve
Virginia lake is in the White Mountain National forest and is only 6 miles ( a ten minute drive away) Sometimes you have to hike in a bit to get to the beach. Very private. Shallow beach is great for children and dogs.
Keewayden Lake Dam is a fun place to swim in a local lake. Only an 8 minute drive
Keoka lake has a nice beach with a dock to swim too. !0 minute drive
Covered Bridge in Bethel
Screw Ager falls at Graftons Notch State park 45 min drive
Ski resorts nearby are Sunday River, Mt Abrams and Pleasant Mt

Overall I had a wonderfully peaceful stay! Donanne’s instructions for getting to the camp site were spot-on. The site was well-kept and exactly as advertised. I think the only thing I’d add is that the road is a dirt road with all the bumps and such that come with a dirt road. Not a problem though if you have some ground clearance (I have a Crosstrek and had no issue).

Howdy everyone. It was a beautiful night camping at the property. John and his family were excellent hosts. Would absolutely recommend staying here. There was a porta-potty at the site with a fire pit and picnic table; a beautiful spot right on the river. Firewood was available for purchase as well as canoe and kayak rentals. John even provided us a history of the property which was very cool! Thanks for the awesome stay!

Adrienne and James were very welcoming! The campsite was nearby their farm, the farm animals were an added bonus. The two tent sites were on flattened sand pads, close enough to the home to grab water or wash dishes, but with privacy supplies by a field of flowers and some trees. The composting toilet took a little walk to get to but had lots of privacy and was very clean. Best of all, there were no mosquitoes to bug us. I would recommend and would stay again!

This place is wonderful and so peaceful. The tent is wonderful, super comfortable, and clean. The bedding was soft and warm. And the view was just lovely--especially if you are into star gazing. The yard for each tent is well equipped, well maintained, lots of places to sit and eat. I absolutely loved it. And the bathrooms are immaculate and insanely cute. Look at the pics! There are *plants and books* in there. And Lori the host is lovely too. After ten years of camping in the Whites, I've finally found my spot. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

We had a great time camping here! Very clean site with electric hook up (huge help!) and firewood provided. Near a lot of great hiking spots to enjoy! Overall, would definitely come back! If you're looking for a little more privacy, they have a campsite further up the road that has nice brook access, the one we were at shared a large space with another site - which isn't bad! We lucked out and had the space to ourselves but this site would be great for two families camping together!

My husband and I had such an incredible time here! Karin greeted us on the first day and she was extremely kind and knowledgeable, sharing all the best places to explore and anything else we may need to know about our stay. We were very impressed with the site and how the hosts made sure to think of everything we could need. The site felt very private and secluded, with private beach access, and a canoe available onsite. A shed was onsite filled with firewood for purchase, paddles and lifejackets. A camp stove was provided along with a cooking grate for the firepit and a large jug of water. Tent was spacious, bed was comfortable, and the mosquito net was perfect for keeping bugs out so we could fully appreciate our surroundings. An evening storm did pass through late night, but the tent kept everything dry and safe. We loved being able to take the canoe out and explore the islands during the day, and relax on the beach and take in the Perseid meteor shower at night! We were able to see dozens of shooting stars in such a beautiful spot! John messaged us after the second day and graciously offered to let us stay an extra night. We were so thrilled and grateful to be able to stay in this magical place a little longer! John checked in on us and was very helpful and kind. His vast conservation efforts are part of what keeps this place so incredible! We cannot thank John, Karin and the rest of their family enough for creating such a wonderful experience. We cant wait to come back!

Absolutely amazing! We loved the water and our dogs did, too! Gorgeous views, spacious sites, thoughtful touches (broom to sweep platform before putting tent down, rake to move gravel/sand, privacy netting between sites, solar string lights!!!!), and stellar host. Overall amazing, super happy and will be coming back! We had the place to ourselves the first night so we peaked at the other sites and will def be trying those out!
This was our first Hipcamp (experienced campers; typically do campgrounds and state parks) after deciding we’d prefer more privacy, a more hands-off experience (no golf carts driving by every hour with camp employees), and explore better/new views. We couldn’t have had a better experience! My partner was nervous about not staying at a campground and he has been converted!
The new toilet was also super clean and a short walk. So no odors at all and very well maintained. Dumpster was a nice touch!
There’s also cell phone service and even 5G (we have tmobile) which was not expected but welcome!
