Smokey Acres

Welcome to Smokey Acres! This property has been in my family for decades. My Husband and I were married under the oaks and have had our share of campfires out there. Down a hidden gravel drive with wetlands on either side you will find a completely fenced in field surrounded by pine, oak, and swamp maple trees. There are two ponds located on the property both stocked with bass, bluegill, and sunfish. The front pond is home to many natural Florida wildlife and is a great location to bird watch. Located a few miles from Brooksville and the Suncoast Parkway, this quiet and peaceful setting is just 5 minutes from the parking area and trailhead for the Suncoast Trail and 10 miles from the famous Weeki Wachee Springs, where you can spend the day at the local park or float down the river with the manatees. Withlacoochee State Park and other natural preserves with trail access and kayaking are only a short distance away, and Dames Cave, Homosassa Springs, and Chasawiska Springs are all within a ~20-minute drive as well. Spending a day at the beach is easy with plenty of options along the Nature Coast. We’re also less than an hour from Tampa and Clearwater and two hours from Orlando. A perfect weekend get-away for anyone looking to “unplug,” Smokey Acres is also a great stop for those passing through the area. We are a close distance to many racing, livestock, boating and fishing events. We have no problem accommodating whatever you’re towing! Whether you'd like a leisurely day on the river or an adventure in the Gulf, there are plenty of boating options nearby. Be sure to make it back to the property in time to enjoy amazing sunsets that bring peace and tranquility to your experience. Our neighbors, JG Ranch, offers U- Pick Fruit and Vegetables or a great selection of local harvest at their roadside stand. This 10-acre property has been in my family for decades. My Husband and I were married under the oaks and have had our share of campfires together out there. I've recently moved back home with my own family and as much as we enjoy the land for ourselves we'd love to share it. Any profit from hosting campers will help us maintain our sustainable farm that we're hoping to expand onto Smokey Acres. Just in! Our dirt road has been repaved. So no worries about a bumpy drive in!

Pack your camping gear, tents, vans or RVs and find peace away from the traffic and everyday stress. There is plenty of nature and you can take a long stroll to clear your head. Mount Dora is across the main street less than 5 minutes away. Our antique town is an amazing experience to explore with lots of history and complete with quaint shops and restaurants, boating and lots of things to do. Rennigers Antique Center is located right up the street (less than 5 minutes away) for some great picking. We are conveniently close to the Central Florida Attractions and the beach on both east and west coasts within an hour drivep. A few Campers favorite places to visit are Mount Dora Bike Trail - 2.6 miles, Kelly Park - 11 miles and Kings Landing 12 miles from farm. We offer youth day camps on various dates, pony rides and a tour of our farm animals for an additional fee. Reservations required in advance due to the other activities we have going on. In 2007, we had no idea where this adventure was going to take us. Our small urban farm was sharing our miniature animals with assisted living facilities and Neulife, where we have 3 miniature horses that live on their property. Little by little we have evolved into more of a need to share with the community and help others with the relaxing qualities our farm and animals have to offer, we want to be able to share and better educate with hands on experiences, teach kindness, patience, confidence and help others to be the best they can be. Thank you for your time and if you visit, share a review! Reviews are the best way for us to better ourselves and your experience. Have a great stay!

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for families: The main Lake Louisa State Campground has 60 full hookup sites between Dixie and Hammond lake, plus 20 cabins overlooking the lake.
  • Best for tent campers: the two Primitive Campsites (Wilderness Point and Pine Point) provide walk-in tent camping with fire rings and picnic tables. There’s no water or restroom so bring everything you need with you.
  • Best for horsey Hipcampers: Lake Louisa Equestrian Campsites have primitive sites alongside five horse paddocks with lush grazing pasture and non-potable water.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve one of 60 full-facility campsites at Lake Louisa State Campground, as well as cabins, and the equestrian and primitive campsites via the Florida State Parks Reservation website.
  2. Florida residents can make Lake Louisa campsite reservations 11 months in advance, while non-residents can make reservations 10 months in advance.
  3. Campsites can book up fast, especially for cabins in peak season (April-September) or over holiday weekends, so book at least three months in advance.

When to go

With warm daytime temperatures year-round, outdoor activities are enjoyable at Lake Louisa State Park right through winter. However, there’s no doubt summer is the most popular time to visit. Crowds flock to the lakes to cool off from the Florida heat, but it’s still not as crowded as you might think, and camping can make an affordable alternative to Orlando’s resorts.

Know before you go

  • Lake Louisa State Park is set 28 miles west of Orlando, about a 35-minute drive away.
  • There are day-use fees for all Florida State Parks, and campsite booking fees also apply.
  • You can bring your own boat to Lake Louisa, but there is no public boat ramp—the closest is at Palatlakaha River Park. Hand-launched canoes, kayaks, and small boats are permitted on the lakes, while swimming is permitted only at the designated swimming area at Lake Louisa.
  • Facilities at Lake Louisa include restrooms, picnic areas with grills, a playground, and fishing docks at Dixie, Hammond, and Bear lakes. A rental concession stand is located at Dixie Lake Picnic Area and rents bikes, kayaks, SUPs, and canoes.
  • There are accessible restrooms, campsites, fishing docks, and picnic sites at Lake Louisa State Park.
