Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds. There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing. We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you. You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. Most of our weekends are fully booked at our Rustic Campsites already, so here is another chance to have yourself a weekend camping trip at our new Primitive Adventures campsites. Due to a high risk fire zone, no open fires. Due to the proximity of the tents right next to Vega Rd, sounds from vehicles can be heard. We are situated in a rural neighborhood setting, with sounds of sheep, goats, chickens, wild turkeys, dogs and many birds nestled between both counties. For enhanced protection we ask that a waiver be signed. Security cameras are on site. While respecting your privacy, we can be seen improving the property. The terrain is hilly and staying on paths limits poison oak exposure. Vega Vortex has been called a Park and Machu Picchu due to the amphitheater landscaping of terracing. This property is 30 miles from Paso Robles and almost perfectly centered between Missions San Antonio and San Miguel. Lakes San Antonio and Nacimiento are close by. Coastal towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay are about an hour scenic drive, passing many wineries along the way. There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. Site two will accommodate ten people and two vehicles. For larger groups we ask that that you book both sites. We have hosted many family reunions and the feedback has been 100% positive. We are a small, working farm with vegetable and flower gardens, chickens and bees. There are many excellent places nearby to hike, walk, surf, swim, tide pool, kayak or just sit and enjoy the view. Our two campsites include water and electric hookups, and are only appropriate for self-contained recreational vehicles and trailers (no tent camping). You will not have another camper next to you! There are no size constraint on RVs or trailers. We have plenty of room for a second vehicle. We do offer a port-a potty. Cell service is very good. The Valley View site can be expanded to two sites, both with water and power hookups. The second site (Valley View 2) can only be booked together with Valley View - please inquire if interested. This is helpful for guests who have separate rigs but want to be close to each other. Our property is a great base camp for your Santa Cruz and Monterey County adventures! We are 15 minutes from Capitola Village, 30 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz and 45 minutes to Monterey. We love to host guests and will provide information about things to do and see in our area. We often loan our State Parks pass so that you can venture out to Point Lobos, Wilder Ranch, Sunset Beach, Natural Bridges and more. There is a Dump station 5 minutes down the road at the KOA (for a fee).

Kim the host was extremely welcoming and friendly - she showed us around the farm and we got to feed the chickens, ducks, sheep, goats, bunnies, and alpacas. It was a hit with our toddler. Great spot. Site had a metal picnic table, small and dim night light, and a cool enclosed iron fire thingy. Site is by the road but traffic at night is sparse. It’s on a slight slope so position your tent appropriately but no issue at all.

My husband and I were trying out a camper van rental and driving down the coast. This spot is fantastic - it has everything you would have at a typical campground - except the crowds! It’s quiet and peaceful with pretty views of strawberry fields and Ray and Robin are lovely hosts; they gave us fresh eggs! As others have said there is a beautiful beach about an 8 min walk away that is dog friendly. We would definitely stay there again!

We had the most incredible time here on this beautiful property! Lisa and Scott were the most gracious hosts. We showed up late and it was dark. They met us out to ensure we found the spot and were comfortably situated. They brought over a fire pit so we could roast hotdog and make s’mores. Right off the bat they were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. We woke up to a beautiful property. We had a great time running around with the kids, playing on the playground, feeding the goats, playing pickle ball and enjoying coffee provided by the host. We spent the day by the pool and enjoying all of the pool toys and warm hot tub! They provided towels and lifejackets for the kids and sunscreen. It was such a great experience. We can’t wait to come back again!

Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds. There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing. We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you. You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. About

Formed more than 20 million years ago by volcanic eruption, the park’s namesake pinnacles are a defining feature of this unique landscape in central California. The towering and jagged rock formations draw rock climbers, while hikers can explore more than 30 miles of trails leading to wildflower meadows, scenic overlooks, and through talus caves teeming with bats. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife and birds, including the famed California condor. One established campground offers tent sites, RV sites, and group sites, and even includes a swimming pool, amphitheater, showers, and a campground store.

  • Best for RVs: Pinnacles Campground offers 36 RV sites with electric hookups near the campground entrance and condor viewing area.
  • Best for comfort: Ten tent cabins with beds are available both with and without electricity, though campers must bring their own bedding.
  • Best for groups: Fourteen group sites offer plenty of space for up to 20 people each

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Reserve a campsite as soon as you know your dates. Regular campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance.
  2. If traveling with a group, book a group campsite, reservable up to 12 months in advance.
  3. If your plans are flexible, visit on a weekday or in summer, when soaring temperatures make the park less popular.

When to go

The park is extremely busy in spring, over weekends, and on holidays. Spring is a beautiful time to visit, with extensive and varied wildflower displays. The campground swimming pool is usually open from April to September. Be aware that the Bear Gulch Cave is typically closed from mid-May to mid-July for pupping season. Nesting peregrines and eagles may cause some climbing areas to close from January through July.

Know before you go

  • The campground is only accessible from the east side of the park. There are no connecting roads between the two park entrances, though there are hiking trails.
  • Bring a flashlight or headlamps for caving and binoculars for birdwatching.
  • Extreme summer temperatures can make hiking and outdoor activity dangerous. Bring plenty of water, and watch out for poison oak.
  • There is no cell service in the park, but visitors can purchase wifi at the East Pinnacle Visitor Center campground store.

We drove through Pinnacles NP on our way from camping at Song of the Ancients. There were signs posted regarding limited services due to the Government Shutdown so we were prepared to see a lot less visitors and staff. We drove past the gate and stopped to use the restroom near the visitor's store and was pleasantly surprised to see it maintained and clean. The store itself was bustling and had many visitors checking into the campground and a number of cars parked at trailheads. The campground appeared a bit empty, but it was also a Sunday so that is to be expected. Overall it was really nice to see people enjoying the park during its limited staffing. Big thanks to the rangers and support staff during this precarious time, and I look forward to coming back to camp and exploring Pinnacles someday soon.

Beautiful national park! Bat caves are closed for 2 months in the summer but the hike up to the reservoir was still worth it! Great fun for kids, as they could still climb on the rocks. There were a few sections that had cliff drops so please beware if considering taking toddlers!

Take your family to Pinnacles
Great for a family hike, even with 4-6 year olds. For 8-10 year olds, they can go further to the reservoir at the top. Kids like scrambling over the rocks through the caves, and if you are sensible and guide them it feels safe. Beautiful scenery and rocks and wildlife; unique.

A must!
This is one of our favorite National Parks within easy driving distance to SF Bay Area. The Bear Gulch Cave was unfortunately closed for bat birthing season, but the other trails are just as great and offer spectacular views. We did notice many vacant campsites despite the website stating they were fully booked for the weekend, which is disappointing. We also experienced the shuttle for the first time which saved us 45min-1hr of walking from the overflow parking lot to the actual trailheads. Thanks for providing this!
