Dark skies, ancient blue oaks, forest bathing, and birdwatching in an Audubon Important Bird Area, about 40 minutes from Pinnacles National Park. Pitch your tent or park your camper amid the ancient blue oaks of California. In the oak-studded Diablo Range, gentle breezes wind through the trees, giving you days of dappled sunshine and nights crisp and cool. Warm yourself by the campfire and drink in some of the darkest skies in the state, where the Milky Way, shooting stars, galaxies and even Saturn’s rings are yours for the watching. Forest bathing (shinrin-yoku) is at the heart of our camping program. Shinrin-yoku is the Japanese practice of slow, mindful immersion in nature, and a blue oak woodland is a wonderful place to try it. There’s no destination and nothing to accomplish. Wander wherever you want or simply sit under the oaks: the dappled light, the scent of the oaks, birdsong, the breeze moving through the branches. Research links time spent this way to lower stress and better mental and physical health. Also look for signs or ask your host about our self-guided tour. Bring your binoculars. We’re in an Important Bird Area, and birding here is a quiet joy. Blue oak woodland is some of the richest bird habitat in California: watch for acorn woodpeckers, western bluebirds, oak titmice, California quail, and hawks and golden eagles circling overhead. Whether you’re a dedicated birder keeping a life list or just love waking to the dawn chorus, birdwatching under the oaks fits right in with a slow morning and a cup of coffee. We also have a flush toilet, outdoor hot shower, and clean clear water from the faucet. Perfect for group gatherings of up to 20, and just as welcome for families, singles, couples, and well-behaved, on-leash dog friends. Watch for wild rabbits, squirrels, the occasional fox, and listen for coyotes singing in the night. Our firewood ($15 a bundle) is sustainably harvested from downed trees and branches. No healthy live trees are harmed, and no native trees are felled. Before you come: we’re remote, and GPS, Apple Maps, and Google Maps are spotty. We’ll send directions right to your campsite after you submit your SmartWaivers, so please submit them before you leave and bring everything you need, since there are no stores nearby. If you forget something, ask Veronica, your on-site host. We can almost always find something for you. Pricing is per person, not per site. Wi-Fi is available if you want it. Dress in layers, and bring warm clothes and blankets for the evenings. This property is best experienced by couples from Friday - Sunday and Familys during the week only and is not suitable for children under 10 or elders with mobility issues. This allows for a fun environment for everyone and dedicated family time as well as quite time. We designed this property because we love to create inspirational spaces dedicated to nature and art. We brought together a huge community to create beautiful buildings using materials that you can find around you such as pallets, clay, sands, straws, etc. Everything is made out of non toxic materials, we even made our own paint out of cooking flours! Being inside these cob buildings feels like being in the womb of Mother Earth: the scent, the calm, the grounding, etc. The woods come from one of our properties and we milled them ourselves. We upcycle almost everything: The tree barks, the branches, even the furnitures were secured from non-profit organizations. We'd like you to come to be inspired! One of the buildings is there as a demonstration site till its done and we'll have the cob builder to be there to show you around. Cob working party is held by a master cob builder. We made your Camping and Glamping experience easy. We provide clean showers, restrooms, toilet paper, paper towels, barbecue, fridge, freezer, popcorn kettles, , utensils, plates, bowls, mugs, coffee maker, pots and pans, cutleries, etc. Yes, there is hot water as well with no coins needed. Welcome to southern Santa Cruz County, home of some of the longest and most beautiful beaches in central California. Enjoy the peaceful view of 300 acres of strawberry fields across the valley. We are a small, working farm with vegetable and flower gardens, chickens and bees. There are many excellent places nearby to hike, walk, surf, swim, tide pool, kayak or just sit and enjoy the view. On site we have a basketball hoop, corn hole, lots of room for kites, frisbees etc. If we appear booked, please inquire anyway, we may have a site that can be opened for a self contained unit. We can usually accommodate early and late check out, please inquire. Our campsite includes water and electric hookups. We welcome self contained units only e.g. Camper vans, RV’s, trailers etc. We do offer a port-a potty and sinks; no shower facilities; good cell service. We provide a fire pit, complimentary firewood, a picnic table and a couple of comfortable chairs. Our property is a great base camp for your Santa Cruz and Monterey County adventures! SFO is 90 minutes away depending on traffic. We regularly host international travelers and we are happy to help you get acquainted with your rig as you set out on your journey. Five minutes from the beach, Elkhorn Ranch is home to goats, sheep, wild chickens followed by their baby chicks, and a couple of cows, dogs, and sheep. In addition to the animals there is a greenhouse and an acre of pumpkins, corn, and beans. A small fruit orchard borders the chicken coop. Anybody who enjoys small farm life and activity will find this place enchanting. Norris and Roberta are incredible hosts and inclusive to any guests that want to participate in farm life. Close to restaurants and the cute harbor town of Moss Landing, 30 minutes from Carmel and Santa Cruz, Elkhorn Ranch can be a place to relax or a gateway to explore Big Sur and all the amazing hidden gems of the Central California Coast. Enjoy a designated smoking/vaping spot, multiple benches, swings, a "grounding" spot, birding, water fountains and art. A no noise policy by the county occurs at 9 pm. Due to a high risk fire zone, no open fires (small camp stoves are ok). Due to the proximity of the tents right next to Vega Rd, sounds from vehicles can be heard. We are situated in a rural neighborhood setting, with sounds of sheep, goats, chickens, wild turkeys, dogs and many birds nestled between both counties. The terrain is hilly with a few gopher holes. Staying on paths limits poison oak exposure. While respecting your privacy, we can be seen improving the property. ***For precautionary measures, we ask that you sign our waiver immediately after you book your reservation. The waiver is "REQUIRED" for you to be able to stay here at the Vega Vortex. Vega Vortex has been called a Park and Machu Picchu due to the amphitheater landscaping of terracing. Practicing permaculture, a diversity of pollinating plants/ flowers, organic garden and art features exist. Minutes away from National Parks, the Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk, Roaring Camp Train, Monterey Bay Aquarium, National Steinbeck Center, Moss Landing, Elkhorn Slough/Canoe/Kayak, Estuaries (bird watching), golfing and multiple beaches. Peaceful and private RV camping under the oaks with picnic table, fire pit and Adirondack chairs. We currently have two sites on our property. They are about 300 feet apart and not easily visible from each other. Property is fully fenced; both sites are next to an open field under the oaks with vineyard, olive orchard and mountain views. This property is 30 miles from Paso Robles and almost perfectly centered between Missions San Antonio and San Miguel. Lakes San Antonio and Nacimiento are close by. Coastal towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay are about an hour scenic drive, passing many wineries along the way. There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. Site two will accommodate ten people and two vehicles. For larger groups we ask that that you book both sites. We have hosted many family reunions and the feedback has been 100% positive. Campsite isn’t the most comfortable. Not many trees and super close to neighbors. It is very close to the trails and the camp store/pool which is nice. This park is one of my favorites because there’s never a ton of people and the hikes are so cool! The condors are always a treat to see as well.

Pinnacles is an underrated National Park to visit with unique geological formations like caves. The park itself is small but there’s enough to do outdoors to keep you occupied. We didn’t catch a California Condor so we hope to next time around.

This is one of my favorite nearby parks to see the stars and meteors showers! This is a great place to go during the cool season, they sometimes have shuttles from the campgrounds to the trailheads.
