In the heart of the White Mountain National Forest, Franconia Notch is the perfect setting for adventure. Jump in Echo Lake, climb the stone cliffs, or mountain bike along the Recreational Trail. The park’s 10 hiking trails include a section of the Appalachian Trail, as well as the otherworldly Flume Gorge path. If you prefer to check out the scenery from the comfort of your car, you can drive on the I-93 between the high peaks of the Kinsman and Franconia mountain ranges then hop on the Cannon Mountain tram for an elevated view. Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation
- Of Lafayette’s 97 sites, 88 are by reservation only and seven are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Reservations are not required for the RV campground but are highly encouraged, especially in summer.
- Bookings can easily be secured online or by phone, up to 11 months in advance.

When to Go
As the most popular activities in the park are swimming, paddling and fishing in Echo Lake, summer is the busiest season. There’s plenty to do year-round, however. Hiking and biking are excellent during the cooler months of spring and fall, while winter offers the chance to snowshoe on multi-use trails and ski in the park's Cannon Mountain Ski Area.
