When to Go

Surfers make an early start to catch the waves at Marina State Beach, while the most popular time for hang gliding is in the afternoon and early evening. Outdoor activities are enjoyable year-round, but the weather can be foggy, and the coastal winds can be chilly even in summer. Dress in layers and pack something warm. 

Know Before You Go

• Marina State Beach is located along the Pacific Coast Highway (Route 1), 10 miles north of Monterey or an about 10-minute drive. The parking lot is located at the west end of Reservation Road. 
• Day-use parking fees apply at all California state parks.
• Facilities at Marina State Beach include a hang-gliding launch (just south of the parking lot), restrooms, and picnic areas. Dogs are not allowed.
• Swimming and water sports at Marina State Beach are at your own risk; there is no lifeguard patrol. 
• Marina State Beach is the only Monterey Bay beach with an accessible restroom.
