This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region. We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. We have a Native Plant Center where we grow up to 50 species of rare native plants. Ask us for a tour.

Thank you all for 2025!!! If it's not freezing, reach out! I may be able to book you in. Stay in our cabin at the estuary on Turners Bay where wildlife is abundant and easy to see. The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Kukutali Preserve State Park, crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and playing on the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago. Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles. While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Sean, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! Due to potential freezing weather and vulnerable water pipes, we are taking the Bamboo cabin offline for December 1 through February 28. You are welcome to reach out and arrange a stay, weather permitting we may be able to accommodate you. It has been a wonderful summer for us here at Saltgrass, meeting new people and welcoming back our repeat guests. We thank you all for visiting our place and hope we meet your expectations. Enjoy simplicity in comfortable luxury! We are dog friendly, and we require all guests to clean up after their dogs. There are plastic bags provided for animal waste disposal when dogs are in the backyard and on neighborhood walks. Cleaning up after pets includes excess pet hair, especially on furniture. Please use the waterproof pet blanket provided for the sofa and bed. Guests bring the animal onto the property at their own risk. The booking guest is liable for any damages that pets cause. (We will have to charge a cleaning fee if your dog leaves behind a mess or causes damage.) We find that most people are cooperative and responsible with their pets. We love traveling with our fur babies, and would like to keep allowing pets in our listings. Thank you for being understanding and working with us to keep our rental available to pets! Rules for dogs: 1. We do NOT have a fenced yard or space. If you have a dog that will wander, we require you to keep your dog on a leash or a lead. 2. We have a 7 acre developing hobby farm currently with fruit trees, a garden, a king shepherd named Jack and a cat named Lulu. You may see some of our neighbour's ducks walking around and hear their rooster in the morning. Please note; our driveway is an uphill, switchback driveway so long trailers are not a fit for our location. Front wheel or 4 wheel is a plus but typically all vehicles can make it up our driveway. We have 2 swimming holes near and backing our property. At the back of the property is Hayward Lake/Hairsine Creek which is great for swimming. Inflatable paddle boards are the way to go if you wish to paddle board in the lake since it would be difficult portaging a rigid paddle board down the Crown Land trail. On the front is the Stave River Runoff. This has trails and is ideal if you have smaller children as the water is a bit warmer and has shallow areas. There are hiking trails in the area and a beach area a short drive from the sites.

We also have the lovely Cowboy wall tent with electricity and extra plugs for charging devices, a small electric heater, larger dorm style refrigerator, Queen size bed and all the bedding, additional oversized twin bed with bedding, 2 lamps, love seat reclining sofa and side table, Bistro style table and two chairs, 2 burner hotplate with coffee and tea, plates, cups and silverware, We provide 5 gallon containers of natural snowfall derived city water at your site. The wall tent has a separate porta potty with handwashing station. A larger portapotty is located in the center of the field for easy access from all other campsites. propane shower and shower room up and running. ACTIVITIES Other activities include local trails for hiking and biking, close proximity to Port Townsend, town beach and waterfront and a short drive to the Olympic National forest. FOOD This year, due to positive feedback, we are increasing our offering of a full course Chuckwagon dinner, two person minimum, paid for when you book your campsite. You can select from smoked pulled pork, BBQ chicken, Smoked ribs or the vegetarian selection, baked spaghetti squash stuffed with a blend of marinara, roasted zucchini, yellow squash and bell peppers, topped with parmesan cheese. Sides served with the dinner include roasted corn on the cob ( in season), potato salad, homemade Horseshoe beans, corn bread and blackberry cobbler . You provide the beverage. Guests meander over to the cook tent at about 6 pm and enjoy dinner seated around tables and chairs complete with plates, cups and silverware. Dinner is served by reservation only on Saturday nights. Dinner is $30.00 per person. 24 hour advance notice required so your food is always fresh. Breakfast ( described in intro above, is $15 per person) THE PROPERTY Just what is Cowboy Camp, you might ask. The traditional definition refers to sleeping outside under the stars with only a bedroll, a fire and the night sky for companions. But if you are a fan of the western genre and lifestyle, you might also know it as a place to go to hang out with like minded folks and experience the Cowboy lifestyle. This includes all people, men and women alike, as the term "Cowboy" is largely generic and not gender oriented. A taste of that lifestyle is what we are offering here at our Cowboy Camp. HORSES It wouldn't be Cowboy Camp without horses and they are definitely present. They can be heard whinnying at mealtimes and throughout the day as they keep in touch with each other. They are generally quiet at night. Horses are not allowed in camping areas when campers are present. No farm would be complete without chickens and ours is no exception. A few hens can generally be seen wandering around the barn searching for bugs, We do not have a rooster, so guests can sleep peacefully. We are offering camping sites ranging from simple tent sites with fire ring, picnic table and soft sandy tent sites to small cabin type tents with beds and electricity. As part of your cowboy camp experience you can sign up for a horsemanship lesson involving handling and grooming horses and time spent working with the horse in the round pen. (There is no actual riding such as a trail ride offered at this time, we are working on that). You can also sign up for a roping lesson. Learn to throw a loop and catch "Little blue", our roping dummy steer head. HIKES AND BIKES We also have games of horseshoes ( with real horseshoes) and corn hole boards. You can take a hike around the property on our trail through mature Douglas fir and majestic Western cedar forest. A 1/4 mile walk down our quiet country gravel road will take you to the 80 acre Jefferson County Land trust forest with several beautiful trails meandering through mature uncut forest. These trails are suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. That forest further connects to the Cappy's trail system, a network of several miles of trails that will wind around and eventually lead into Port Townsend itself if you choose to venture into town. Or you can choose to travel via mountain bike or foot approximately one mile down the road to the DNR forest property that will lead you through more gorgeous wooded and open areas to access the Larry Scott trail, a 7.3 mile out and back firm surface multi-use trail that leads either out of town through the woods or to the north directly into Port Townsend along the scenic waterfront. Our beautiful piece of property is comprised of almost 11 acres situated on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula just outside the quaint Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend. It lies approximately 4 miles from downtown with its many art galleries, restaurants, shops, boat harbor, farmer's market and the historic Rose theater. The farm itself is located within a section of old growth forest comprised of 100 year old Doug Firs, cedar trees and alder groves. There is an open pasture area in the center of the property, which is ringed completely by thick stands of forest, so it feels completely private. You have to look closely to see the neighboring two houses through the forest. The horses are excluded from camping areas during your visit, and will most likely be housed on neighboring property while guests are present. No need to worry about curious horses coming into your campsite to say hello. It is a wildlife paradise with frequent visits from local deer, bald eagles, ducks on the pond, owls nesting in the trees, and coyotes travelling through. The frog pond is alive all night with singing. If you are a light sleeper you might consider earplugs. We have created a walking trail through the forest around the land that is full of the sounds of life and birds. A pileated woodpecker makes its home in the back corner and two pairs of barred owls also inhabit the nearby Douglas firs. They can be heard at night calling out as they settle in for the evening. An important note for the walking explorer, please be aware that many areas of the farm are in their natural state. This means you might encounter prickly plants such as star thistle, nettles and tansy ragwort. We are happy to identify these for you if you are unfamiliar with them. Please be aware and dress in long pants and long sleeves while hiking. There are no poisonous snakes present in this region. We train horses here so there is a full size riding arena and training round pen. On any given day, you might see horses being trained and ridden. MORE ABOUT THE FOOD At the end of your day of adventures, you can opt to sign up ( when your site is booked) for a delicious feast at Cowboy Camp. Using old time traditional Dutch oven cooking techniques and slow smoking methods, meals are comprised of such items as slow cooked smoked pork shoulder or ribs, Dutch oven baked "Horseshoe Beans" ( a crowd favorite), fire roasted corn on the cob (in season) , homemade potato salad, green spinach salad, and of course dessert such as homemade blackberry cobbler or pineapple upside down cake. Vegetarian selections are also available upon request. ADVENTURES CLOSE BY Venturing out from the farm you can sign up to go on a whale watching excursion with Puget Sound Express out of Port Townsend. Seeing a whale is guaranteed or you get a free return trip. Also, the Olympic National Park is only a short one hour drive to the west and the view from Hurricane Ridge is not to be missed. Your Hosts: Property owners Karma and Rick come with a long extensive history of experience in the horse industry and western culture. Together they share over 100 years of experience with horses, both having ridden since young children. Karma loves sharing her knowledge of horses and horsemanship with others and has been a certified riding instructor for many years. Rick grew up with a horse and cattle background from a young age. As a young man he competed in the rodeo sports of bareback broncs, calf roping, bull riding and team roping. He then worked as a professional farrier, horse trainer and ranch employee in Texas. He learned the art of Texas BBQ cooking while living and working on Texas ranches. He loves to cook for others and enjoys sharing tales of the ranch life. You can choose to be as involved as you like during your visit. You can sit quietly in the forest and just enjoy peace and quiet if you so desire. We will not bother you. Our goal is simply to provide you with a beautiful place to relax, play, and enjoy during your visit. So come on out, set a spell, and enjoy a wonderful day, weekend, or week here at Cowboy Camp. This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region. We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. We have a Native Plant Center where we grow up to 50 species of rare native plants. Ask us for a tour.

The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Kukutali Preserve State Park, crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and playing on the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago. Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles. While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Sean, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! Due to potential freezing weather and vulnerable water pipes, we are taking the Bamboo cabin offline for December 1 through February 28. You are welcome to reach out and arrange a stay, weather permitting we may be able to accommodate you. It has been a wonderful summer for us here at Saltgrass, meeting new people and welcoming back our repeat guests. We thank you all for visiting our place and hope we meet your expectations. Enjoy simplicity in comfortable luxury! We are dog friendly, and we require all guests to clean up after their dogs. There are plastic bags provided for animal waste disposal when dogs are in the backyard and on neighborhood walks. Cleaning up after pets includes excess pet hair, especially on furniture. Please use the waterproof pet blanket provided for the sofa and bed. Guests bring the animal onto the property at their own risk. The booking guest is liable for any damages that pets cause. (We will have to charge a cleaning fee if your dog leaves behind a mess or causes damage.) We find that most people are cooperative and responsible with their pets. We have a 7 acre developing hobby farm currently with fruit trees, a garden, a king shepherd named Jack and a cat named Lulu. You may see some of our neighbour's ducks walking around and hear their rooster in the morning. Please note; our driveway is an uphill, switchback driveway so long trailers are not a fit for our location. Front wheel or 4 wheel is a plus but typically all vehicles can make it up our driveway. We have 2 swimming holes near and backing our property. At the back of the property is Hayward Lake/Hairsine Creek which is great for swimming. Inflatable paddle boards are the way to go if you wish to paddle board in the lake since it would be difficult portaging a rigid paddle board down the Crown Land trail. On the front is the Stave River Runoff. This has trails and is ideal if you have smaller children as the water is a bit warmer and has shallow areas. There are hiking trails in the area and a beach area a short drive from the sites.

This includes all people, men and women alike, as the term "Cowboy" is largely generic and not gender oriented. A taste of that lifestyle is what we are offering here at our Cowboy Camp. HORSES It wouldn't be Cowboy Camp without horses and they are definitely present. They can be heard whinnying at mealtimes and throughout the day as they keep in touch with each other. They are generally quiet at night. Horses are not allowed in camping areas when campers are present. No farm would be complete without chickens and ours is no exception. A few hens can generally be seen wandering around the barn searching for bugs, We do not have a rooster, so guests can sleep peacefully. We are offering camping sites ranging from simple tent sites with fire ring, picnic table and soft sandy tent sites to small cabin type tents with beds and electricity. As part of your cowboy camp experience you can sign up for a horsemanship lesson involving handling and grooming horses and time spent working with the horse in the round pen. (There is no actual riding such as a trail ride offered at this time, we are working on that). You can also sign up for a roping lesson. Learn to throw a loop and catch "Little blue", our roping dummy steer head. HIKES AND BIKES We also have games of horseshoes ( with real horseshoes) and corn hole boards. You can take a hike around the property on our trail through mature Douglas fir and majestic Western cedar forest. A 1/4 mile walk down our quiet country gravel road will take you to the 80 acre Jefferson County Land trust forest with several beautiful trails meandering through mature uncut forest. These trails are suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. That forest further connects to the Cappy's trail system, a network of several miles of trails that will wind around and eventually lead into Port Townsend itself if you choose to venture into town. Or you can choose to travel via mountain bike or foot approximately one mile down the road to the DNR forest property that will lead you through more gorgeous wooded and open areas to access the Larry Scott trail, a 7.3 mile out and back firm surface multi-use trail that leads either out of town through the woods or to the north directly into Port Townsend along the scenic waterfront. Our beautiful piece of property is comprised of almost 11 acres situated on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula just outside the quaint Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend. It lies approximately 4 miles from downtown with its many art galleries, restaurants, shops, boat harbor, farmer's market and the historic Rose theater. The farm itself is located within a section of old growth forest comprised of 100 year old Doug Firs, cedar trees and alder groves. There is an open pasture area in the center of the property, which is ringed completely by thick stands of forest, so it feels completely private. You have to look closely to see the neighboring two houses through the forest. The horses are excluded from camping areas during your visit, and will most likely be housed on neighboring property while guests are present. No need to worry about curious horses coming into your campsite to say hello. It is a wildlife paradise with frequent visits from local deer, bald eagles, ducks on the pond, owls nesting in the trees, and coyotes travelling through. The frog pond is alive all night with singing. If you are a light sleeper you might consider earplugs. We have created a walking trail through the forest around the land that is full of the sounds of life and birds. A pileated woodpecker makes its home in the back corner and two pairs of barred owls also inhabit the nearby Douglas firs. They can be heard at night calling out as they settle in for the evening. An important note for the walking explorer, please be aware that many areas of the farm are in their natural state. This means you might encounter prickly plants such as star thistle, nettles and tansy ragwort. We are happy to identify these for you if you are unfamiliar with them. Please be aware and dress in long pants and long sleeves while hiking. There are no poisonous snakes present in this region. We train horses here so there is a full size riding arena and training round pen. On any given day, you might see horses being trained and ridden. MORE ABOUT THE FOOD At the end of your day of adventures, you can opt to sign up ( when your site is booked) for a delicious feast at Cowboy Camp. Using old time traditional Dutch oven cooking techniques and slow smoking methods, meals are comprised of such items as slow cooked smoked pork shoulder or ribs, Dutch oven baked "Horseshoe Beans" ( a crowd favorite), fire roasted corn on the cob (in season) , homemade potato salad, green spinach salad, and of course dessert such as homemade blackberry cobbler or pineapple upside down cake. Vegetarian selections are also available upon request. ADVENTURES CLOSE BY Venturing out from the farm you can sign up to go on a whale watching excursion with Puget Sound Express out of Port Townsend. Seeing a whale is guaranteed or you get a free return trip. Also, the Olympic National Park is only a short one hour drive to the west and the view from Hurricane Ridge is not to be missed. Your Hosts: Property owners Karma and Rick come with a long extensive history of experience in the horse industry and western culture. Together they share over 100 years of experience with horses, both having ridden since young children. Karma loves sharing her knowledge of horses and horsemanship with others and has been a certified riding instructor for many years. Rick grew up with a horse and cattle background from a young age. As a young man he competed in the rodeo sports of bareback broncs, calf roping, bull riding and team roping. He then worked as a professional farrier, horse trainer and ranch employee in Texas. He learned the art of Texas BBQ cooking while living and working on Texas ranches. He loves to cook for others and enjoys sharing tales of the ranch life. You can choose to be as involved as you like during your visit. You can sit quietly in the forest and just enjoy peace and quiet if you so desire. We will not bother you. We are offering camping sites ranging from simple tent sites with fire ring, picnic table and soft sandy tent sites to small cabin type tents with beds and electricity. As part of your cowboy camp experience you can sign up for a horsemanship lesson involving handling and grooming horses and time spent working with the horse in the round pen. (There is no actual riding such as a trail ride offered at this time, we are working on that). You can also sign up for a roping lesson. Learn to throw a loop and catch "Little blue", our roping dummy steer head. HIKES AND BIKES We also have games of horseshoes ( with real horseshoes) and corn hole boards. You can take a hike around the property on our trail through mature Douglas fir and majestic Western cedar forest. A 1/4 mile walk down our quiet country gravel road will take you to the 80 acre Jefferson County Land trust forest with several beautiful trails meandering through mature uncut forest. These trails are suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. That forest further connects to the Cappy's trail system, a network of several miles of trails that will wind around and eventually lead into Port Townsend itself if you choose to venture into town. Or you can choose to travel via mountain bike or foot approximately one mile down the road to the DNR forest property that will lead you through more gorgeous wooded and open areas to access the Larry Scott trail, a 7.3 mile out and back firm surface multi-use trail that leads either out of town through the woods or to the north directly into Port Townsend along the scenic waterfront. Our beautiful piece of property is comprised of almost 11 acres situated on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula just outside the quaint Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend. It lies approximately 4 miles from downtown with its many art galleries, restaurants, shops, boat harbor, farmer's market and the historic Rose theater. The farm itself is located within a section of old growth forest comprised of 100 year old Doug Firs, cedar trees and alder groves. There is an open pasture area in the center of the property, which is ringed completely by thick stands of forest, so it feels completely private. You have to look closely to see the neighboring two houses through the forest. The horses are excluded from camping areas during your visit, and will most likely be housed on neighboring property while guests are present. No need to worry about curious horses coming into your campsite to say hello. It is a wildlife paradise with frequent visits from local deer, bald eagles, ducks on the pond, owls nesting in the trees, and coyotes travelling through. The frog pond is alive all night with singing. If you are a light sleeper you might consider earplugs. We have created a walking trail through the forest around the land that is full of the sounds of life and birds. A pileated woodpecker makes its home in the back corner and two pairs of barred owls also inhabit the nearby Douglas firs. They can be heard at night calling out as they settle in for the evening. An important note for the walking explorer, please be aware that many areas of the farm are in their natural state. This means you might encounter prickly plants such as star thistle, nettles and tansy ragwort. We are happy to identify these for you if you are unfamiliar with them. Please be aware and dress in long pants and long sleeves while hiking. There are no poisonous snakes present in this region. We train horses here so there is a full size riding arena and training round pen. On any given day, you might see horses being trained and ridden. MORE ABOUT THE FOOD At the end of your day of adventures, you can opt to sign up ( when your site is booked) for a delicious feast at Cowboy Camp. Using old time traditional Dutch oven cooking techniques and slow smoking methods, meals are comprised of such items as slow cooked smoked pork shoulder or ribs, Dutch oven baked "Horseshoe Beans" ( a crowd favorite), fire roasted corn on the cob (in season) , homemade potato salad, green spinach salad, and of course dessert such as homemade blackberry cobbler or pineapple upside down cake. Vegetarian selections are also available upon request. ADVENTURES CLOSE BY Venturing out from the farm you can sign up to go on a whale watching excursion with Puget Sound Express out of Port Townsend. Seeing a whale is guaranteed or you get a free return trip. Also, the Olympic National Park is only a short one hour drive to the west and the view from Hurricane Ridge is not to be missed. Your Hosts: Property owners Karma and Rick come with a long extensive history of experience in the horse industry and western culture. Together they share over 100 years of experience with horses, both having ridden since young children. Karma loves sharing her knowledge of horses and horsemanship with others and has been a certified riding instructor for many years. Rick grew up with a horse and cattle background from a young age. As a young man he competed in the rodeo sports of bareback broncs, calf roping, bull riding and team roping. He then worked as a professional farrier, horse trainer and ranch employee in Texas. He learned the art of Texas BBQ cooking while living and working on Texas ranches. He loves to cook for others and enjoys sharing tales of the ranch life. You can choose to be as involved as you like during your visit. You can sit quietly in the forest and just enjoy peace and quiet if you so desire. We will not bother you. Our pup was a little too interested in the farm animals so we did keep her on leash, but she had a great time sniffing around on a long lead. Jacob was so friendly, checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Would highly recommend for an upgraded camping experience.

We enjoyed our stay at the Glasshouse! The concept is really cool and we enjoyed the large space. Rochelle was responsive and quickly was able to find someone to fix the woodstove when we were having problems. If you are not confident in starting a fire I would definitely bring a fire starter. I am confident in my fire making skills, but we were not able to get a fire going, which made for a chilly stay. It feels relevant to note that the weather forecast was incredibly rainy so while the wood was dry, the humidity definitely had an effect (nobody's fault). Luckily there is a baseboard heater in the bedroom space as well as electric blankets so we were plenty warm at night! The dishwashing/handwashing station wasn't super obvious to us, and we hope in the future there will be a sink space to do these things.

Very close to the beach and the view of the lake waa amazing. What a lovely experience! Beth was so communicative and answered our questions. The yurt had a super cozy bed! You can stay here even if it’s chilly - the evenings were cold BUT the accessible campfire and super warm and cozy bed kept us warm! It is absolutely feasible in chillier weather, just be prepared! Her husband helped us out with some firewood as we hadn’t had a chance to buy any and he also kindly shared some homegrown apples with us on our way out! Clean bathroom, peaceful environment, and 2 lovely dogs! Will absolutely stay again when we find ourselves in the area. Thanks! :)

Two of us stayed here for one night. We live in Seattle and it was a perfect place to stay after spending the day in Bellingham. We arrived after sunset and our host quickly came outside to help guide us to our yurt, which was so appreciated. It was raining on and off throughout our stay, but we stayed dry and the bed was unexpectedly comfortable. The only suggestion I have is to add another large rug inside for warmth and coziness. We’ll be back again, hopefully for longer!

Custer is an easy 20-minute drive to Bellingham, 10-15 minutes to 2 coastal beaches (Birch Bay and Semiahmoo), and only 10 minutes to Blaine and the Canadian border. We love to host our friends and show people around our beautiful slice of the PNW🌲 We are a big family, so we designed all of our glamping sites to be kid and pet friendly and big enough to fit families of 2-6. A little luxury and ease for the grownups and a magical nature experience for the kids. Kids are allowed to "just be" here. Cellular reception isn't great but no one seems to notice. Not when they are busy building forts, roasting marshmallows and climbing up tree houses. The intention infused into all of our spaces is a Hygge* (pronounced hoo-gah) vibe. *Hygge is a calm, comfortable time with people you love. The absence of frustrations; often enjoyed with warm drinks, cozy blankets and candlelight or a fire.❤️ County Noise Statement: We love living in rural Whatcom County and we know land owners in our area love it too. In fact, their enthusiasm for the great outdoors is so high that sometimes they can generate sounds that will travel throughout the day. These are likely sounds you are not accustomed to hearing in a traditional neighborhood. Distant noises such as: -county shooting range located a few miles away -tractors -mowers & chainsaws -ATV vehicles -barking dogs -farm animals (goat, horses, crowing roosters) -wild animals (early morning bird song and owls at night) -children laughing -adult voices -train horn Evenings are generally very quiet and peaceful as night falls with the exception of holiday weekends as the enthusiasm for owning property in the country may ramp up ;) We tell you all this in order to be fully transparent about noise potential. If the potential for noise and the nearby shooting range will be a damper on your glamping experience, no worries! We totally get it! Our place is probably not the best fit. If you want to bring your kids to a place where they can build a fort, take a break from their screens and build family memories over a campfire, then you will love it here! In a cedar grove, nestled among the ferns, a lotus belle tent awaits you. A unique bed and breakfast in an off-grid tent. Inside the belle tent there is a comfortable double bed with clean sheets, plump pillows, and a warm Pendelton blanket. A 'west coast homestead basket' with granola, fruit ,and farm eggs is provided for a nutritious breakfast. A Berkey water filter provides delicious water from our mountain well. Inside the tent, a comfortable chair looks out over the mossy forest toward the creek. There is room to stretch, and a couple of yoga mats to use. A stretch is especially nice after exploring the nearby trails through Mount Maxwell forest. The trails take through a varied and fascinating forest. Along the way are mossy knolls with vistas of the valley, ocean, and Vancouver Island. One trail leads all the way to Burgyone Bay. The belle is an off-grid seasonal tent with electric candles for lighting and a composting toilet. At night there are solar string lights--should you want them--which illuminate the path to the tent. On clear nights, turn the lights off to star-gaze through the branches.

At 180 acres Glendale Farm in Chimacum, in operation since 1857, is one of the largest single agricultural properties remaining in Jefferson County. The farm includes prime agricultural soils, over half a mile of East Chimacum Creek, and forested areas. The easement protects a buffer zone for salmon and wildlife habitat along the east fork of Chimacum Creek and protects the agricultural and forestry values of the property forever. Jefferson Land Trust and collaborative partners purchased the easement to Insure Glendale farm maintains agricultural practices and wildlife habitat forever! Please be aware this is a working farm with poultry, livestock, and the use of farm equipment providing a great experience for farm life. Glendale farm experienced a devestating loss in 2022, the primary residence burned down, and since then has been going through an extensive cleanup from an extreme hoarding situation. We recommend using shoes at all times as we are still in the process of combing the grounds for glass and possible sharp objects. You can expect to see old farm equipment, some derelict Rvs, and material debris which we are raising funds to remove. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve the site with future showers, a comunal kitchen, and improved landscaping. Where to go

Orcas Island

Orcas Island is the biggest island in the San Juans, and has plenty of amenities, including restaurants, museums, shops, and camping options. It’s also home to the largest of Washington’s state parks—Moran State Park—a fantastic place for hiking, and boating. Tent and RV camping is available in the park, but campers need to secure reservations ahead of time. If you have your own boat, you can also visit nearby Sucia Island Marine State Park, an uninhabited, pristine spot directly north of Orcas Island.

San Juan Island

San Juan Island is popular among adventurers and history lovers, and the San Juan Island National Historical Park is a must-visit for anyone who wants to learn about the Pig War, a boundary dispute between Britain and the U.S. that all started because of a trespassing pig. The park is for day use only, but you'll find tent and RV sites at San Juan County Park on the west side of San Juan Island, overlooking Haro Straight, and at the San Juan County Fairgrounds.

Lopez Island

The third-most populated island in the chain, Lopez Island offers 63 miles of shoreline and a mix of forests, farmlands, galleries, and boutiques. The island is popular among cyclists, with quiet, mostly flat roads, and has a few great places to camp, including Spencer Spit State Park, which has reservable and hiker/biker sites, a dump station, flush toilets, but no hookups or showers, and Odlin County Park has seven RV sites for vehicles less than 30-feet-long, but no hookups.

Shaw Island

Shaw Island is the smallest of the four main San Juan Islands that are accessible by ferry, with a year-round population of only around 200 people. You can camp at Shaw County Park, which offers 11 tent camping sites, a boat launch, picnic tables, and fire pits. Island facilities are limited, but there is a general store by the ferry landing where you can buy food and supplies.
