Conveniently located near the towns of Kelso and Longview, and only 2.7 miles from Castle Rock. A day trip to Mt St Helens is very possible.

Horses are welcome on the property, as are leashed/penned and friendly pets. Dogs can be off leash at the river, but be courteous and aware of other dogs. Please clean up after your animals!

We offer firewood for sale (cash) and allow propane fire pits in our fire pits during burn bans. We follow the Cowlitz County ban, July 15-Sept 30.
We also have a community fire pit for our dry campers (or large groups) called the Lave Pit, directly across from our dry camp area.
Motorized off-road vehicles are allowed ONLY for transport of gear to/from the river or for those with mobile disabilities. We ask that you are respectful of the trails and drive slowly.

1. We're sure a lot of Hipcampers look for seclusion and peace and quiet, but that's not what you'll get at our park. Although our sites are spacious, we're located along busy State Highway 14 and there's also a train coming through at all hours of the day and night (far more often than we like). Light sleepers, please ask our host for complimentary earplugs or bring your own.

You may surprised at how loud peace and quiet can be. Whether it's the prehistoric sound of sandhill cranes, a serenade of coyotes, elk talking, hoots of great horned owls or a simple chorus of frogs and crickets; if you enjoy being immersed in the sounds of nature then come and enjoy. "The Refuge" abuts Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge so be sure to bring your binoculars or spotting scope. Elk, sandhills, coyotes and deer are frequent visitors to the property, bear and bobcats occasionally.
If you just can't sit still and relax, we are only 16 miles from BZ Corners and the white water opportunities of the Big White Salmon River, 12 miles from the Leidl boat ramp on the Klickitat River and 16 miles from the town of Trout Lake and all the recreation opportunities to be found in the Gifford Pinchot.
If it wasn't for the view (and it is awesome!), the site would be rather unimpressive. It's level gravel driveway with water, a 50/20 RV hookup and dump that sits between an unoccupied house and large shop that we may occasionally visit. A fire pit is available. Need leeway on party size, check in time or something else...message me and we'll see what we can do.
Reality Check
Exhaust brakes. This is timber country; during the week early morning truck traffic can be expected. Traffic is always very light, but it only takes one exhaust brake at 4:00 am to remind me of the crazy hours loggers work.
Mosquitos. Conboy Lake is really a great big seasonal marsh and the mozzies can be a moderate annoyance at times. As a seasoned camper, I would rate them only slightly above a "run of the mill" nuisance even during peak times .
Let it shine! The hook up site is exposed. Mid August, 4:00 pm, 100 degrees out...you'll want an awning or AC. Consider "The Oaks" under add-ons as an option, or message me to discuss.
Darned hosts. We're your nearest neighbors, about a 1000 yards away, mostly obscured but visible. We're pretty quite, but sounds of life may occasionally drift your way. Sometimes mowing has to done and the dog always barks briefly at UPS or when we come home. If we interrupt your illusion of seclusion it will only be briefly.
No trash service. Pack it in, pack it out. Thanks!

Bring your RV and park and have a large site to yourself. You have room to spread out your awning without hitting the next vehicle. Each site has its own picnic table and fire ring. Also if you are in the mood you have a covered kitchen to meet and mingle with other guests. We also have a big screen tv in the kitchen so you don't miss the Seahawks games.

Our guests love staying here "This site has absolutely everything you need. You'll want to bring your own shampoo and conditioner, but I think that was the only things I noticed I'd want. They even had firewood for us, no extra charge! David, his wife, and everyone else that helps maintain the property were SO sweet and welcoming. Seems like it would be a lovely place to stay in the winter, so thats when I'd like to come back! 5 stars all the way for everything here, the thoughtfulness of the cabins, the cleanliness, the readily available kitchen and the hospitality. The Refuge is exactly the kind of place you hope to find on Hipcamp: peaceful, private, and genuinely beautiful. Our dog had the best time running around freely and enjoying the space, which made the stay even more special. Greg was so kind and welcoming, he even stopped by to gift us fresh tomatoes from his garden, such a thoughtful touch. It was the perfect place to slow down, unplug, and enjoy some time in nature. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back!

Nice and quiet spot to camp. Spent the night in camp 4. It was enough room for a larger tent. There’s no fire pit or table but that was perfectly fine for us on this trip. The hosts were nice, quick to annswer and very accommodating. Even met with us to show us the way to the site and allowed early checkin. Would camp again.

The site was just what the Dr ordered. Quiet, private, and a great place to spread out and relax. We were visited by some deer, and enjoyed watching nighthawks and bats in the evenings. Our host was an excellent communicator, and even provided some videos of the site ahead of time. Highly recommend!

Michael had great communication. We were looking for a spot to spend the night to watch the stars and requested to stay here later in the day. Michael responded immediately and provided detailed instructions to this HipCamp on Lake Pleasant. Would definitely recommend staying here for future campers.

Great place to camp during a mt saint helens adventure or while passing through. The property is beautiful. The porta potty was clean and stocked. There is cell phone signal if that is important to you. It is currently blackberry season and we were given permission to pick them. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. Despite the road being close it was not loud all night. Fell asleep to the sound of crickets. There was a rooster on I assume a neighboring property but we wanted an early start anyway.

Another year of wonderful memories at Dicks. We were lucky to be able to book both sites for our group this year and it was the perfect summer spot. We loved the gazebo for morning coffee and games, the trails and the brook in the back. The whole camp is always maintained really well and I'm excited to see the little changes every year that we come back.

We love this place so much, it would be hard to top. Communication is always great in the booking process, host is friendly the times we have interacted in person, the sites are spacious, the toilets are clean, the views are stunning and the memories are made. We love coming back here!

If you want Peaceful, this is a good Place. Even though the Road is close to the Camp Site, very little Traffic. And No Trains. A little ways off Hwy 2, but wasn't hard to find. Lots of room to place your RV or Camper. Easy entry and leaving. Would definitely stop by again, when back in this area. Thanks again Matt and Family.

Kony was a great host! He went way above and beyond staying up late to greet us after a long travel day, ensuring we had everything we needed and directing us to the best and most private position at our site. We also spent time walking his trails with the dogs, it was nice to have some activities right out our door. We will definitely be back!

The property was simple and perfect. There was a designated platform next to the cabin to shower, wash off, do dishes, etc. Great place for big or small groups. Ton of space to park and the hosts were quick to respond for questions. We enjoyed the privacy and the view of the stars at night was GORGEOUS! Site is a short drive to water access- beach or lake. We went paddle boarding at Mason Lake State Park in the evening, which was so lovely. We had a great time and would love to stay again.

Loved the peace and quiet of Lake Pleasant. It was a nice place to come back to after exploring the area. There was a nice park and beach to play at. The lake was never crowded and people could easily paddle board while other water skied. 3-4 other camping spots with trailers, lots of space. Michael quickly answered a few question we had (where we could put a bag of trash). As new trailer owners we appreciated an easy pull through spot with hook ups. Also, enjoyed the shade of the most beautiful willow tree!

Where to go
Greater Seattle
Straddling the Puget Sound, this region includes Washington's biggest city--Seattle--and the area around it. While urban adventure takes center stage in this populated region, there are also plenty of spots to commune with nature, and even if you're based in Seattle, you'll have easy access to numerous Washington state parks.
The Washington Coast and Islands
If you want gorgeous Pacific Coast scenery, ancient forests, and whale watching to feature in your next camping trip, the Washington Coast, the Olympic Peninsula, and the state's many islands are just the ticket. Here you’ll find Olympic National Forest and its ancient Hoh Rainforest, plus plenty of small Coastal towns, such as charming Port Angeles and Port Townsend.
Northern Washington
This remote section of the state is characterized by old-growth forests, alpine lakes, and ancient glaciers. It’s also the site of North Cascades National Park, an enormous expanse of wilderness that offers mile upon mile of hiking trails and excellent campground and backcountry options for campers.
Central and Eastern Washington
With a mix of towering mountains, pristine forests, arid prairies, and plenty of cute small towns, Washington's central and eastern stretches offer some of the best camping and outdoor recreation areas in the state. Washington's second-largest city, Spokane, is located in the region, as is the Bavaria-inspired town of Leavenworth, full of German restaurants, beer gardens, and plenty of faux-world kitsch in this region.
Southern Washington
The southern part of the state is known for beautiful scenery, snow-capped peaks, and excellent wine. On the Oregon border, the Columbia River Gorge is full of beautiful spots for hikers--come in the spring and you'll be rewarded with spectacular flurries of wildflowers. The region also boasts a few world-class wineries of its own, with more to be found further north and east in Walla Walla and Yakima. The area is also home to Mount Adams, Mount Rainier and its surrounding national park, and Mount Saint Helens, which famously erupted back in 1980.
