4 nights at Southern Camp
Campsite is beautiful. Overlooks the River, and you can see the sunset on a clear evening - stunning! Lots of ducks, bald eagles, so much wildlife! We brought our dogs and they loved it! 100% privacy aside from the fishermen on the water that occasionally appear in their boats. The host is MORE than accommodating!!! Gave us firewood, answered questions, and was more than happy to help with anything. He is very good about taking care of the toilet and cleaning up the site before/after each camper. Ask him about the water before wanting to kayak - he is knowledgeable and will let you know! Look at the weather before you go - As others have said, be careful on a rainy weekend. It can pool into your tent site if you’re not prepared. We had an experience with high winds that almost took the tent away, so be mindful. The host provides a shelter which was very helpful to keep things dry. Beware of ticks and mosquitos! No seriously - Bring that corticosterone cream. The host nicely laid out moth balls along the campsite but the bugs can get bad if the air is muggy and humid. We have stayed at a lot of Hipcamp sites. This is our absolute favorite. I wish it could stay a hidden gem. However it deserves recognition. 10/10 recommendation

Our camping trip on Donald’s land was fantastic. The camping spots are far apart with much privacy, the land is beautiful and provides a calming hide away from bustling DC. Donald provided us with water and firewood and brought us extras as we ran out, he is very attentive to messages. Our dog loved roaming around and I personally loved walking in the maze. I can imagine it’s also the perfect spot for kids to run around and explore! Don’t hesitate to book if you are looking for a rustic and relaxing camping trip.

We had the best time! Opted to camp here instead of a crowded park on memorial day weekend. We had plenty of space and loved being able to explore. It was the perfect place for my dogs first camping trip and he loved being able to run around. We were able to watch lots of sky divers too which was so cool! Donald brought us firewood and water so we had one less thing to worry about. Would definitely camp here again.

I celebrated Mother's Day 2025 along with my Mother and Aunt at Riverside Camp. The site and host were nothing short of amazing. The site was spacious and very well maintained. In addition the potty area was clean and well maintained. In addition, the host was VERY helpful, friendly and hospitable. I will absolutely stay here again!

Impressive luxury feel! Comfortable bedding, beautiful design, full house bathroom (separated by locked door from rest of home), and bus bathroom for #1. Electricity and running water in the bus, and a flipbook with the origin story of the bus, and restaurant recs including Hidden Wit Brewery where we enjoyed music bingo while the kids ran around a play yard with new friends. A peaceful trail on the property. Recommend!

My girlfriend and I came for the weekend with our dog, and I would 100% recommend. The decor on the inside of the bus was beautiful. All the necessities (dishes, towels, etc.) were provided. We used the pass for Pocahontas park, the closest parking was 5 minutes away and had some really nice trails. Claire even met us when we arrived and gave us some fresh eggs!

Learn more about this land: Come take a load off at this forested Richmond retreat overlooking Reedy Creek. Set up a tent, car camp, or bring your small trailer to one of two sites on a unique property backed up to 20+ acres of woods. Imagine a hidden gem where you can relax to the sounds of rushing water and chirping birds, but can walk or bike to coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, parks or the river. If you are coming into Richmond for a Brown's Island event we are a five minute Uber to an access point using the Potterfield walking bridge (it's a beautiful walk across the James River to the island). Each campsite includes 3 level spots to pitch tents (see dimensions below), and a connected space to park one car, van or small trailer. The large parking space can be used as a fourth tent footprint if needed. There are additional parking spaces. Each site has a fire pit (with firewood on site), a grate to grill over the fire, a picnic table, and a hammock. There is a shared outbuilding with a composting toilet, hand washing sink, outdoor shower (solar warmed), and space to change privately.  Campsite W ~  Tent footprints: 1) 10' x 12' 2) 10' x 13' 3) 9' x 10' Campsite E ~ Tent footprints: 1) 15'x16' 2) 10' x 15' 3) 9' x 10' **Pricing is based on groups of up to four adults or two adults with children. For groups of five to seven adults there is an additional charge of $10 person per day. For groups of eight or more we suggest you reserve both sites and have the entire camp to yourselves. Campsites W and E are about 80' apart. Both are around 100' to the creek. The spots can accommodate a total length (towing vehicle plus trailer) of up to 35 ft. There is an outdoor spigot with potable water and hoses for clean up. The woodlands and creek adjacent to the campsites have trails that are accessible to the public. You and your furry friends are welcome to use these paths, but know that others may be using them too. We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic. The bus will sleep 3 comfortably, 4 if you really like each other! *Full Kitchen Gas stove top. All kitchen utensils included. 116 acres of hills and dells. Miles of hiking trails marked and well maintained. A small pond and beautiful labyrinth. Over 50 acres of deep wilderness woods. General Lee and his troops once camped here. But they cleaned up pretty good, so all you can really see is the old spring and wagon road. This is a working herb and small fruit farm. We have been experimenting with all kinds of exotic herbs and trees. Some make it, many don't. We sell dried herb teas. In addition we have 5 different kinds of bamboo. We use the bamboo for so many things. In the 5 people per site we are considering adults, not children... bring a whole crew of kids (try to have enough supervision - if there is such a concept!) The kids have such a great time out here... it is amazing. They love the labyrinth! It seems like we made this place for the kids in ourselves and when actual kids see it they go wild. The last bunch were running and yelping with their picked flowers all round and round in the labyrinth for hours! Also, if you want peace and quiet - and we have children booked - we will put you out at one beautiful remote campsites away from all the kids running and singing.

Please note the interior height is only 6 feet. *We are located in the woods with ticks, bugs, and other wildlife. We have provided bug spray and highly recommend you treat your dogs for ticks before arriving. *Beds Queen-sized bed in the back and the couch bed folds to a size slightly smaller than a full mattress, with bedding included. The bus will sleep 3 comfortably, 4 if you really like each other! *Full Kitchen Gas stove top. All kitchen utensils included. Kitchen sink with hot water and a 7 gallon jug underneath the sink that you will need to empty if full. *Bus Bathroom Composting toilet- for urinating only. *Main House Full Bathroom Full bathroom, shower, and laundry.
