UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic. Beautiful spot on the water! This area was lovely. Although it was a bit frustrating that the host specified you could not bring your own wood and that he had some available on site, however it was left uncovered. It rained heavily on our first night so we could not make a fire with the wet wood. Also the bathrooms on site are Porta potties, which were infested with hornets nests. It is very difficult to find the site in the dark, so I recommend getting there during the day if you can- since there are no signs at all along the way. Overall I would stay here again, just not for longer than a weekend trip and while keeping these things in mind. I loved that there were kayaks available, it was a nice addition.

Highlight for us was sleeping near the water, seeing billions of stars, and hearing all the different birds communicating in the morning. However, you must go prepared with your own water, toilet, and electric sources. It’s really was a gem for us.

Casa Vargas was just what we needed. A quiet and peaceful getaway. We camped at the LAKEVIEW spot. Our dogs had a blast playing in the water but likely scared the fish away for me. The night sky was clear and amazing. And Juan was very welcoming and helpful with any questions we had. I would definitely recommend staying here and we’ll likely return. There are plenty of winery’s and breweries close by but this trip we just chose to sit by the lake and relax.

We stayed at campsite #2 and it was the perfect spot! Secluded enough to be far from other camp spots and you had the most perfect view of the river! Graham was so nice to being firewood when we needed it! Would highly recommend!

My kids and I had a great time camping on the lake for two nights. The owner has done a lot of work to cut the trails and sites, everything was in great shape and perfectly located. It was very quiet and peaceful, with so many stars visible at night. Seeing the baby goats was a big hit with my girls! We will definitely come back👍🏼

Weekend Trip to Seven Islands River Front Campsites

Camped two nights at Seven Islands with my 13-year-old son, we had a fantastic time. Campsites are right on the James with great views and plenty of solitude. We kayaked, fished, and relaxed by the fire at night. We loved watching when trains went by on the northside of the river. The Seven Islands stretch of the river is beautiful. Michael's farm is a great spot for a father-son trip or anyone. We greatly appreciated Michael's hospitality and would definitely return for another visit. Seven Islands is now one of my son's favorite camping spots.

Site is exactly as pictured. There are two adjacent sites on both sides, which were empty during my visit and I enjoyed my solitude as a solo camper. Someone did drive past on their 4-wheeler but it wasn’t a problem. Shane’s communication was great. He was able to promptly answer my questions prior to booking and also took the time to reach out to me after seeing the road condition to ensure I had an adequate vehicle to make it to the site. Would 100% recommend and I will return. Thankful for the opportunity.

Weekend Trip to Private Paradise on Rivers Bend

We really enjoyed our weekend on site two at this property. Site two is really large and the most private imo. It’s the last site when driving in so no other campers are driving by. There is no shore at this site to sit down by the river but I knew that when booking. There is a very steep spot at the site for river access with a rope for help but it just dropped straight into the water. Might be different with lower water levels. The site was perfect for stargazing. Our dog loved all the open space for running. We loved falling asleep to the sounds of the river. We loved being able to leave cash for wood that was stacked at the site when we arrived. Overall we enjoyed the space and had a really relaxing weekend.

Peaceful and the water was relaxing to watch . We caught a few fish such as pike, catfish & bass. We used the kayaks which are included & for an additional fee the paddle boat which was fun . The just was friendly and nice .

Awesome time as always. This was the 3rd time camping. And like the others. The rain came. Lol it wont rain for weeks. But we show up. Its gonna rain at night! 50+ mph winds last night from 5pm till 4am. No tree fell, which was my worry. Awesome time, Awesome fish. Will be back.
