You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Kathryn was a great hosts , their farm is amazing scenic , from the hiking trails , to the mushroom land , imagination station it was just phenomenal. We absolutely loved this property! Beautiful views, very quiet, CLEAN and peaceful there is a gorgeous lake a short walk from camp site 1. Juan has beautiful horses on his property and they are so peaceful to watch. Water and electric hook up worked great, and our class A fit great and site was level. This location is about 1 mile off the main road we easily navigated down the dirt compacted/gravel road no issues. Again extremely quiet, just nature. Just 14 minutes to downtown Culpeper, charming downtown area, lots of shops, and diners. Walmart, Target, Martins, Lidl, and Lowes are just a few more minutes down the road. Can not recommend this camp enough, you will not be disappointed!

We loved camping at the Harmon Homestead! Extremely quiet and relaxing. Friendly hosts that go the extra mile to make your stay amazing. When you go ask to meet the animals. They have goats, pigs, chickens, emu, and the friendliest pup who may come to say hello. Highly recommended.

4 nights at Camping on the Hazel River

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this cabin! I communicated with Peggy through the HipCamp app, and she was very responsive and helpful. When we arrived, Tony met us at the parking area, showed us to the cabin, and took the time to explain how everything worked. He was incredibly kind, accommodating, and genuinely wanted to make sure we had a great experience. The cabin itself was spotless, rustic, and very cozy — exactly what we were hoping for. It has just the right amount of amenities: a small fridge, microwave, toaster oven, running water, and just enough hot water for a quick shower. The outdoor shower was one of our favorite parts — it felt peaceful and refreshing every time we used it. Before our trip, we asked if there was a way to cook outside, and Tony went above and beyond. He actually built a wonderful fire pit setup designed for cooking, which we used every day. It was such a fun and memorable part of our stay, and Tony even provided all the firewood we could possibly need. The property is beautiful, well maintained, and surrounded by about one to two miles of lovely hiking trails. It was quiet, private, and felt like our own little hideaway in nature. Tony gave us plenty of space while still being available if we needed anything. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience — highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a cozy, peaceful escape!

All that you see is included! Plenty of comfortable seating, two hammocks, firewood at the site (purchase on the honor system), propane grill (propane included), and solar powered string lights.

Magical place! We were a large group with several children ages 0-10, and the kids were all in heaven on your property! Not only was it perfect for a large group, but there was so much to do on the grounds! We all loved learning about mushrooms, and the hike with gnomes and trinkets was so enjoyable for everyone! This was our second time camping at Phantom Hill and it has easily become our absolute favorite place to camp as a family! Kathryn is truly a wonderful host who has thought of everything to make the experience simply phenomenal. We previously stayed at the Hummingbird campsite but this time we decided to try Waterthrush and it was just as lovely! We loved the string lights and hammocks, and it’s so convenient having a grill, chairs and tables all available to use! The forest is so beautiful and we loved walking the trails and my kids especially loved the treasure hunt! It was so cool seeing the mushroom farm too! As if there isn’t enough to do, they even have an Imagination Station where the kiddos can paint rocks and play games! This place is just MAGICAL. ✨ Kathryn is always such an accommodating host! When my husband and I realized we had a hole in our air mattress we brought, I texted Kathryn about renting a mattress pad and she was there in minutes! She goes above and beyond for her guests! Also highly recommend purchasing the natural soap from the Honor Shop. It smells amazing!!! If you want a very private camping experience with great perks and beautiful foliage, trust me, this is your spot. We cannot wait to come back!

My group had a wonderful time camping at the Hummingbird site this weekend! The space was fantastic with plenty of tent space and areas to sit around the fire. We ended up using the grill and picnic table for dinner before roasting smores over the fire. I would 100% recommend.

Darlene's land was a perfect hip camp. Usually my dogs and I hit the hay at nightfall, but Darlene's camp has an electric pole with a light, a screened tent with a table and chair, and an extra electric plug (recharge phones) - it was private and serene - plus Darlene was a FANTASTIC communicator, who meets you there to show you how the compostable toilet works, where to get firewood, etc. - then leaves you your privacy. Only a small disclaimer for travelers with dogs, IF you have a reactive dog (as one of mine is) there is quite a bit of wildlife noise in the woods. Highly recommend this hipcamp.

I had a beautiful experience here. Darlene was so generous with her flexibility and understanding of my circumstances. I came here looking for a bit of healing and quiet. I stayed under the gazebo and enjoyed the spa twice! The property is so lovely and magical. I felt held by the trees and Darlene even helped guide me through some of the strong emotions I was experiencing. Such a beautiful experience. I will be back soon.

when it comes to camping with kids i try to find places that can entertain them the whole time and this site met the expectations! the farm was so cute and lovely, the kids loved being able to play on the playground and were obsessed with all the animals which were all super friendly (especially the cats). the site feels far away from everything, but a grocery store is less than 10 min away. the hosts and her children were all very friendly and helpful. Apryl was attentive to any of our needs we really enjoyed our stay. i definitely recommend this site for children/ families!

Truly phenomenal camping spot! This spot was a perfect combination of wild (it felt very private and quiet) and well-appointed (awesome site setup with chairs, hammocks, and other camping amenities). We were able to relax and enjoy ourselves with walks around the property‘s winding trails and delight in all the little things the owner had done to make it unique (don’t miss Mushroom Land!). We also went to the nearby brewery/winery and had a fun evening listening to live music and drinking tasty drinks. We’re already talking about when we can go back! This is a don’t-miss spot if you’re looking to get away.

It was such a beautiful place to stay. There was plenty of room for tents for our grown children and grandkids. But for us, to have a camper to sleep in at our age was a bonus! 4 nights at Phantom Hill Forest Retreats

We stayed at Waterthrush (all the campsites are named after birds!) with our group of 8 kids ages 2-8 and 6 adults. We were able to fit three 4-6 person tents at the site with a little creativity. It was so nice to have the seating, grill, and hammocks provided. We had four wonderful nights there. There was minor road noise, FYI, but the site is great and private from the other sites and public areas of the property. The composting toilet/outhouse was very clean and pleasant. Kathryn was very responsive and a truly wonderful host. She was gracious and accommodating with a booking error I made, and she helped save the day when one of our vehicles needed a jump start. The whole property is beautiful. We loved exploring the trails, mushroom operations, and the imagination station. Our kids were in heaven with the trails, creek, and treasure boxes and gnomes to discover. We have already booked a trip for next year!
