Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet. Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activity sites. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location. We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. 2 nights at Pumpkin Ridge Retreat

First time staying here so I didn't really know what to expect. Not that it's a negative but it's not a traditional campground. It's essentially two sites on private property. Site 1, the site I stayed at, is the first site and is closer to the road. You can drive up to this one which is really convenient. The site was pretty flat and could easily accommodate a few tents. The picnic table looked pretty new and the fire ring was pretty large making it ideal for larger, hot fires. There's plenty of firewood on-site which was super convenient and they even supply a wheel barrow to get it to your spot. The porta-john was the cleanest I've ever used as well. Denise, the host, was great and was very responsive to messages. A+ there. The only downside was no real facilities so you can't shower. Not the fault of the host but noise was a minor issue from time to time. Dogs barking across the street late at night and people driving around loud off-road vehicles. Other than those small things, it was very quiet. No one else was there during my stay which was also nice. All in all, it was a good couple of days of camping. I would definitely return.

Very nice! Cabin was tidy and absolutely lovely for the price it was. It stayed warm all night even with how cold it was. The property was beautiful, plenty of firewood and interesting stuff to see. The owners were very kind! Cows were adorable, and their dog was sweet too. Definitely keep any pets close, because we heard a bunch of coyotes right on the ridge! We got steaks from their little store, which were also great and priced very well. Overall a great trip, just wish we could have stayed longer!

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp

Wife and I had all we needed at the Nature Camper. Camper has water, hot water, stove, oven, fridge, microwave, and a Solo Firepit on the private deck. Lots of charm inside, more like a tiny house with completely new appliances and birch walls. Best of all you are on 500 private acres. We hiked part of the 10 miles of trails in total privacy. Site also has huge grassy tent area you can expand into with large fire-pit - comes with the camper so no neighbors. Owner’s family goes back to the original log cabin, that is still there off one of the trails. Owner has made his own private preserve, He was interesting, respectful and responsive. Camper pdf had all the details you need. Easy drive to Marietta Ohio River historic areas, shopping, dining, activities, and Wayne NF trails. No cell or WiFi but it comes in as you drive down the road. Unplug and enjoy!

Weekend Trip to Benton's on the Baileys

We really enjoyed our stay! The land was beautiful, the spot was private, and we liked having the restrooms down the hill. The two bathrooms were clean and there were showers/towels provided and heaters on, we were surprised at how nice they were. Keith was friendly and carried our stuff up the hill in an ATV even though we had been expecting to do it ourself. The wood is a great deal for $5 and we had a ton of firewood including the deadwood on the ground. We brought our two dogs and it was nice being able to let them run around at the campsite, that was one of the reasons we didn't stay at a standard campground. This place is not too far away from the Hocking Hills trails (about 40 min), and next time we will have to check out the Bailey's trails as they are so convenient to this spot. We didn't have an issues with bugs or wildlife.

This site was perfect! It was secluded enough with only 2 sites (no one was at the second site when we were there) but close to good hiking trails. We already booked again! The bathroom is clean and there was plenty of firewood. One note-as pictured there is no grate for the pit. If you need one to cook be sure to bring. Communication was great as well!

The hosts are extremely friendly and accommodating, the campsite is simple but had everything we needed, and the cabins were comfy, warm and private. The site is in a lovely area of country: rolling hills, lots of wildlife, and really quiet and peaceful. We went with 4 adults and 5 kids, aged between 7 and 11, and everyone had a great time.

Weekend Trip to Birdhouse Farm Camp And Cabin

We loved our stay at the A-Frame. It was more secluded than expected which was nice. It is about 1/4 mile from where you park. Logan will help you haul your stuff in his Gator which was super helpful when we were leaving in the rain. We had a peaceful stay and explored Lake Hope State Park, dined at Pleasant Hill Winery, and enjoyed Jennifer's delicious homemade and locally sourced breakfast burritos.

2 nights at Woody Acres

This bus is so cute and cozy. We enjoyed the spot and hiking the trail on the property. Beautiful nature abounds. We enjoyed our bonfires and stargazing. The hosts are very kind and friendly. They have a friendly cat who likes to visit. There is a solar light, one stove burner and a foot pump sink in the bus. There are some amenities that are present but not functioning, which would take it up an extra notch. As is it’s a decent camping setup and sufficient. The outhouse is shared and a short walk away. We were comfortable and cozy and enjoyed our stay.

1 night at Appalachian Retreat Camp

I wish we’d had more time to explore the Appalachian Retreat. It was a lovely and lush piece of land and the little a-frame was very cute and comfortable. I appreciated all of the cool design features of the cabins and outhouse. We only arrived late at night, slept well and had to head out in the morning.

The land was beautiful and well maintained. We stayed one night as a quick stop on a longer trip. Jennifer was very sweet and had the site prepped with water and fire wood for us. the bathroom was clean. The pond was my favorite part.

Very friendly and an open space. Expected to be close to the road, just didn't expect it to be as busy. Beautiful spot!
