Weekend Trip to Near/Far Cabin and Campground

This is my second time staying at this cabin with friends and easily my favorite :) It has everything you need from a grill, coffee machine, yoga mat, to an outdoor shower. I love all the personal touches in the cabin too and was pleasantly surprised with a little vase + plant on the table :) you can tell they put a lot into this cabin and love it very much! Will continue visiting in the near future.

2 nights at Baileys Basecamp

The Ridge Camp A site was beautiful to spend a couple of days in. The person who helps shuttle people’s gear up to it, Keith, was so nice and helpful! The platform for our tent was much appreciated, as we arrived after a day-long rain. We also appreciated being able to pre-order a dozen eggs and have firewood up top to purchase when we needed it. We came to this area to go hiking and wow, did we get some steep hiking in just going down to the bathroom! It was worth it to stay up in the ridge but just be prepared! And speaking of bathrooms, there were two super clean, brand new ones with showers on-site to share with other guests. That was a real plus. Also down by the bathrooms was a little community hangout spot with picnic tables, hammock stands, Adirondack chairs, and a firepit. Another bonus. Love this place, would definitely stay again.

Beth’s land is so beautiful!!! The weather wasn’t great the weekend we were there but we still had such a great time. We were able to hike a little bit and see some of the land!! As well as some of the farm animals! Beth is so accommodating and sweet… the best host! We will definitely be booking again soon(hopefully with better weather!!)

1 night at Tenderfoot Learning Lab

Amazing camp site! This was our second time here and won’t be the last. It was our first time exploring the trails. The land is absolutely beautiful and magical and an explorer’s paradise. I highly recommend!

Incredible spot! Thank you Bill! We camped on a rainy weekend and I’m so glad we picked this hipcamp. We appreciated the out house and lean to. There’s some nice trails to walk on his property. Shockingly we didn’t pick up any ticks so that was really nice. We heard owls and cows in the morning. Despite the wet conditions we stayed dry and had a wonderful time!

We rented both campsites for a large group of people. The area was nice and peaceful with no distractions. 15 minutes from Walmart and other stores. We had a blast, the area was beautiful even with all the rain!

The cabin was cute and clean and in good condition. The beds were comfy. Had paper plates and plastic utensils and paper towels already in the cabin. It was very private because it was raining so there wasn’t anybody outside or anything. More affordable than a lot of other cabins. There was a massive spider under one of the extra pillows. And there was a cute cat that showed up on our last night just wanting to hang out with us.

The covered shelter area with the picnic table was great to have as the area experienced some massive rain during my stay. Great to be able to set up everything not have to worry about getting soaked. I'm sure in the summer it provides some great shade also. I requested some bundles of wood for the stay. Was not sure how much firewood would be avabile close by. The wood was dry and burned easily, even with the amount of rain we had. I would offer a suggestion to the owner. When I pulled up, there were turkey hunters hanging out and thought it was part of the forest. Was not a big deal. They packed up and left within a few minutes. To avoid confusion, I would put up some private property postings.

Peaceful, lots of birds and deer, and you can hear the peepers at night. We had a great time!

What a great camp! Carl is very personable, the grounds are beautiful, it’s very secluded (ie; off the beaten path). The camp has a common area to hang out and cook or bonfire or play games. There is also a full ~on grid~ bathroom with a shower and that’s attached to a small game room with a tv and air hockey (if you absolutely feel the need to stay connected). A really peaceful getaway but only about an hour drive to Marietta to the SW, Granville to the NE & Hocking Hills to the south. My sister and I tent/car camped here for 4 nights and 5 days and really hated to leave. 😊

4 nights at RusticAppalachian Cabin on BeefFarm

The cabin was so rustic and cute, and the privacy was wonderful. We enjoyed the birdsong and frogs calling. We enjoyed being off grid and brought our yeti cooler and a string of battery powered LED lights for evenings. The propane cookstove worked great. We really enjoyed our stay although there were a few things that could be improved. We understand rustic, we do rustic, we love rustic. However rustic does not mean the grass shouldn't be mowed (it was a foot high in spots), or that the cabin shouldn't be clean (mouse droppings everywhere-especially 2nd floor which we didn't use), or that the cabin couldn't be made more comfortable (more than one screened window per floor would allow better airflow). And not sure what's up with the water. We've used cistern stored water before, but this water smelled like poop! If you ran the spigot awhile, the smell would dissipate somewhat. But next time you used it, back to the poop smell. But even so, the pros outweighed the cons, and we would stay again if in the area.

Weekend Trip to Tenderfoot Learning Lab

Excellent campsite near Athens and Lake Hope State Park. It was great chatting with Travis and learning about what they did at Tenderfoot. There are two sites on the property and we stayed at the larger one, called Deciduous Downtime. It was a short downhill walk from the parking area to the site. The site itself is surrounded by the woods and very peaceful. You don’t really see the house at all from there. One thing to point out though is the ground is not completely level across the site. We didn’t find it to be a deal breaker though. We had enough room for two tents and a big shelter that we could put over the picnic table. Note there is just one tent pad. The outhouse is clean and well kept and there’s lots of trails on the property to explore. We'd highly recommend staying here!

Learn more about this land: Our camp spots are very easy to drive right up to. They are overlooking a small bit of woods. Wake up in the morning to birds chirping. The area has a large clearing for children to play. but the privacy you need to enjoy a nice evening around the campfire. There is a pond for fishing, and a nice deck that is avaliable to use. There is 25 acres here and you are welcome to use it for your enjoyment. We do have fencing to keep our horses in so please we ask to not climb over the fences as they will shock you as they are electric. The wildlife you may see include squirrels, deer and racoons fox etc. Located 2 miles from interstate 70 for easy access. NewConcord is just 3 1/2 miles down the road and is the home town of John Glenn you can visit his home place there, or pick up grocerys. Our little campground began as Bailey Wayne Bike Camp. In 2023 we learned that Wayne National Forest wanted to drop "Wayne" from its name, so we decided to rename our campground and campsites in memory of Raleigh and Blue, two wonderful dogs who we wish were still with us. This area was once a booming coal mining town in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The hollow was made up of hundreds of company homes, several mines, and other company buildings. As the mines died, the forest slowly took over. In the 1980s the National Forest began acquiring ownership. Today, we are just a stone's throw from the new Baileys Trail System. My wife and I have been biking for years; we've spent a lot of time camping and biking in OH, KY, WV, and NC. We primarily ride gravel routes on our tandem mountain bike around Athens and Washington Counties in Ohio. Our property is 3 acres, which offers enough room to open up a couple primitive campsites so we can share the peacefulness of the forest.

The Campsite at Dragonfly Lake

The Campsite at Dragonfly is located on a secluded and private 20 acres in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. The campsite is a 1000 ft hike from the parking area. The campsite includes a fire ring and firewood and a nearby chemical toilet. There are various water sport activities like fishing, kayaking, or paddle boating and plenty of hiking trails to explore the great outdoors! This is a nature lovers paradise... enjoy watching ducks, geese, blue heron, egrets, hawks, varieties of turtles, largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, deer and many more animals. Please note that this hike is up and down a decent grade, so please plan accordingly and take this in consideration if any one in your party has physical limitations. During your stay you are welcome to enjoy the lake, we have kayaks, pedal boat, jon boat and stand up paddle boards located at the floating dock on the dam. You are welcome to use them all, weather permitting, just please return them to their proper place and in the same condition you found them in. The lake is deep so please make sure to keep any non-swimmers safe with the use of flotation devices. If you plan to fish you are welcome to bring your own fishing gear. The lake is stocked with bluegill, large-mouth bass, and catfish but it is nature so you may find other species that we don’t know about! We also provide firewood so you don't have to worry about packing it!!! Other things you will probably want to pack for your stay include: Sturdy shoes for walking to your camp site and exploring the trails. Please ask to see what is available/restricted during your stay. Flashlights/Headlamps for navigating outside after dark Bug spray Jacket/long pants (it can get chilly in the evenings in the spring and fall) Frequent questions and answers: *Can you drive up and park by the campsite - No, The camp site is a short 1000 ft hike from the parking area *How do you get your things to the camp site - Pack light... there is a hand cart to transport things up and down the hill. *Will there be other people on the property... there are two cabins on the other side of the lake... we have made every effort in layout and design of the property to maximize seclusion and privacy and the vast majority of our guest appreciate and are respectful of it. *Are there shared common areas and things - The lake is private and shared by the guest of the cabins... boats and life jackets are shared and are to be returned to the main dock area at the dam. *Can we swim in the lake - We have made no accommodations for swimming... it is a muddy bottom lake... Purchased in 2019, these overgrown acres are now a federally registered Farm with the crop being Trees, and have a 10 year Woodland Stewardship Management Plan with the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources. I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat, and native vegetation. 2024 saw the start of our EQIP contract which includes killing the non-native invasives, like Tree of Heaven, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, and more. 2025 was planting, staking, and tubing of 800 tree seedlings, including Black Walnut, Red Oak, Scarlet Oak, Sugar Maple, Persimmon, and Tulip Poplar. Learn more about this land: Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres while being the only campers on site. Provided are a 4x8 lean-to, outhouse, fire ring, and a spool table. Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. The pond is off limits for liability reasons. This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite.) You do have to hike in and out between parking area and campsite. It's about 500 feet from parking to campsite. Mostly level, with one short incline. 10 minutes from The Wilds. 10 minutes from I-70. 15 minutes from I-77 and Cambridge.

Bare Cove is a recreation lake with campsites. However, we are not your typical camp ground. We have no quiet hours, we do get loud and have a great time on the weekends. All guests must sign personal injury waivers to cover our 6. So about the property, it’s 120+ acres with a 5 acre man made lake that features blue waters, a beach area and tikibar. Dogwood Cabin

Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions. Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek. Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit. There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc. No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire. Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy. Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less. An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin. No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles. Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire. 8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave. We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat. No motorcycles on the driveway. You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks. 24 hours before your arrival, you should receive a message with the code to get in at the digital entry door, plus a bit more information that you may enjoy.

West of Marietta lies Wayne National Forest in the Appalachian foothills.
