Private Forest Campsite

1 site · Tent80 acres · Dexter , OH
Nestled under the shade bequeathed by a tall canopy of deciduous trees and alongside a gentle flowing brook, lies a forest opening perfect for immersing oneself in nature. From our parking area, our private campsite is a short walk (3-4 minutes) by way of a well maintained footpath which leads you alongside a farm pasture, to a wooded trail that empties on to a level forest understory ideal for your hammock or tent. Our campsite is equipped with the necessities: a firepit with a removable grill, a table, your own private outhouse, and unlimited sights and sounds of nature. Trails leading from the campsite will usher you short distances to one of our best stargazing hilltops, to the shallow creek which runs alongside the campsite, through shaded forests and ridgetop views. Our pond, a short 7 minute hike, offers fishing, swimming or simply relaxing on the dock. For longer hikes, all trails connect to our larger network of maintained trails winding over hill and dale, through shaded forests and open (mowed) pasture trails offering the hiker farm-life views across our 80 acres. The Campsite at Dragonfly Lake

1 site · Tent20 acres · Woodsfield, OH
The Campsite at Dragonfly is located on a secluded and private 20 acres in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. The campsite is a 1000 ft hike from the parking area. The campsite includes a fire ring and firewood and a nearby chemical toilet. There are various water sport activities like fishing, kayaking, or paddle boating and plenty of hiking trails to explore the great outdoors! This is a nature lovers paradise... enjoy watching ducks, geese, blue heron, egrets, hawks, varieties of turtles, largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, deer and many more animals. Please note that this hike is up and down a decent grade, so please plan accordingly and take this in consideration if any one in your party has physical limitations. During your stay you are welcome to enjoy the lake, we have kayaks, pedal boat, jon boat and stand up paddle boards located at the floating dock on the dam. You are welcome to use them all, weather permitting, just please return them to their proper place and in the same condition you found them in. The lake is deep so please make sure to keep any non-swimmers safe with the use of flotation devices. If you plan to fish you are welcome to bring your own fishing gear. The lake is stocked with bluegill, large-mouth bass, and catfish but it is nature so you may find other species that we don’t know about! We also provide firewood so you don't have to worry about packing it!!! Other things you will probably want to pack for your stay include: Sturdy shoes for walking to your camp site and exploring the trails. Please ask to see what is available/restricted during your stay. Flashlights/Headlamps for navigating outside after dark Bug spray Jacket/long pants (it can get chilly in the evenings in the spring and fall) Frequent questions and answers: *Can you drive up and park by the campsite - No, The camp site is a short 1000 ft hike from the parking area *How do you get your things to the camp site - Pack light... there is a hand cart to transport things up and down the hill. *Will there be other people on the property... there are two cabins on the other side of the lake... we have made every effort in layout and design of the property to maximize seclusion and privacy and the vast majority of our guest appreciate and are respectful of it. *Are there shared common areas and things - The lake is private and shared by the guest of the cabins... boats and life jackets are shared and are to be returned to the main dock area at the dam. *Can we swim in the lake - We have made no accommodations for swimming... it is a muddy bottom lake... Many people have swam in it... like all outdoor activities, they are at your own risk and should have adult supervision when appropriate. *Is there phone service.... service is spotty. *Is there a bathroom... there is a chemical toilet just a short walk from the campsite *Are there weeds and plant life in the lake - Yes, it is a natural body of water not a treated urban drainage ditch... we have at times had issues with vegetation and algae but we have made great strides to keep the lake clear and as natural as we can. *Can I bring a generator... no... we like to maintain the sound of nature for our guest. **Please check out our area tourism website for activities and area information** discover monroe county .org Check out our 5 star lodging reviews online for "The Nest Lodging and Rentals" located near Woodsfield, Ohio.

Backwoods Camping

1 site · Tent10 acres · Cumberland, OH
Purchased in 2019, these overgrown acres are now a federally registered Farm with the crop being Trees, and have a 10 year Woodland Stewardship Management Plan with the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources. I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat, and native vegetation. 2024 saw the start of our EQIP contract which includes killing the non-native invasives, like Tree of Heaven, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, and more. 2025 was planting, staking, and tubing of 800 tree seedlings, including Black Walnut, Red Oak, Scarlet Oak, Sugar Maple, Persimmon, and Tulip Poplar. Learn more about this land: Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres while being the only campers on site. Provided are a 4x8 lean-to, outhouse, fire ring, and a spool table. Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. The pond is off limits for liability reasons. This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite.) You do have to hike in and out between parking area and campsite. It's about 500 feet from parking to campsite. Mostly level, with one short incline. 10 minutes from The Wilds. 10 minutes from I-70. 15 minutes from I-77 and Cambridge.

Camping near Marietta guide

Overview

Historically known as Riverboat Town, Marietta sits along the confluence of Muskingum and Ohio Rivers and is full of waterfront camping and adventure. West of Marietta lies Wayne National Forest in the Appalachian foothills. Hike, bike, or horseback ride to Lake Vesuvius or Rock House in the forest before checking in at campsites for tents, RVs, and travel trailers with amenities like flushing toilets, showers, and full hookups. Cabin rentals are also available and include wifi, clean sheets, and a hot tub. Nearby, biodiverse Vinton Furnace State Forest has more dense woods, rock formations, and Belgian coke oven ruins once used in iron production. Tent and RV sites here offer pet-friendly accommodations and firepits. A day by the water warrants a trip to Salt Fork State Park, which spans nearly 20,000 acres of wilderness around Salt Fork Lake. On-site RV and tent camping provide bathroom facilities, firepits, and BBQ grills, while fully-furnished cabins and lodge rooms have free parking, housekeeping services, and patio walkouts.
