My farm had been untouched for years and only used as hay farming. It is rolling hills known by the locals as "Butterfly Hill" Which the farm is home to many species of butterflies in the summer. I know the area was inhabited by native Americans many decades ago. I have found a few broken arrow heads over the years. The farm is beautiful and quiet. I have a beautiful hiking trail around the property for you to take your fur babies on. The cabin is right on a beautiful stream too. There are several state parks nearby and river tubing within 10 -30 minutes. Hot showers and potable water just a few feet away.

Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill….
So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each.
Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail).
Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash.
Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week.
Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group.

This property is located on the border of VA and NC, 6 miles from Kibler Valley on the Dan River with recreational releases for Class 2 white water kayaking in the summer. We are close to Class 1 kayak and canoe river runs as well in Danbury NC along with hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains, Hanging Rock State Park and Pilot Mountain State Park.

Our farm is an agritourism/sheep farm that offers seasonal events, educational workshops, a petting zoo, Bed and Breakfast, farm store, and camping area!
We are a working farm during the week but we allow campers to park on weekends or weekdays. The price is the same except the petting zoo and farm store are only open on weekends.
We don't have hookups, so bring a generator if you need it. If you need to fill up your RV water tank, we charge $10. Each of the 3 sites has a fire ring and picnic table.
A Grill Pavilion is available to rent for $20 extra. See photos. Propane, grill, table and party lights included.
We allow check-ins during the week after 12 noon, perfect for folks passing through and just need a safe and quiet place to park for the night and not interested in visiting the farm store, the barnyard or the rest of the farm, which are closed during week.
If you are looking for interaction with the animals, or need supplies from the farm store, we open from 10-4 weekends only. You can purchase feed for the animals for $1/bag then. We have sheep, donkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits, turkeys, guinea pigs and geese!
While we are dog-friendly, we do not allow dogs closer to the petting zoo area. We offer a 1+ acre fenced in area next to the camping sites where you can allow your dogs off-leash. No extra charge.
Our camping area is a large grassy field that will accommodate multiple tent campers, travel trailers, and RVs under 30' with room to turn around, stake your area, and not feel crowded.
There is also 1 regularly maintained porta potty located in this area.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE: Turn into the driveway and up towards the house. You will enter the camping area through the open double gates on your left. We no longer use the red gate on your right as a camping area.

John was a wonderful host. We got some eggs from his farm for breakfast, bright orange yolks, so delicious. We had a great view of Pilot Mountain and it was a perfect location for going to both Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain. We walked down to the creek where our dog met his dogs. His dogs were curious and our dog is pretty chill, they all got along just fine. Who won to check out the farm animals more but it rained, so we slept through the morning feeding. All in all, I would definitely go again.

My sons and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kohler Farms campsite. Our hosts met us on arrival and shared a page and a half of great recommendations for food, groceries, entertainment, and recreation. Our hosts were extremely kind and I feel genuinely love having campers to visit their land. We loved meeting their four shire horses, who were very friendly and gentle. There was a lot of flat grassy space next to the creek to pitch our tent and put out our cornhole boards. We highly recommend Kohler Farms to anyone looking for a relaxing stay with plenty to do within a 20 minute drive.

Could not recommend this place enough! Been on the road camping for weeks and this is easily the best camp site I’ve stayed at so far. At night you can fall asleep to crickets chirping, cows mooing, and the creek flowing. My site was private but still felt extremely safe, they even have lights on the main trail down through the camp sites at night. My site came with a hammock and they have hot showers and all your camping essentials in their country store. The owner was friendly and helpful. Such a cool place, wish I could’ve stayed longer!

A beautiful spot situated beside a sizable lake, with plenty of room for walking. At night, there is a stunning starry sky and the sounds of nature. There is a designated fire pit, along with an abundance of branches to gather for lighting a bonfire. Personally, I would move the fire pit further away from the barn containing the straw—though that is just my opinion. It is a very secluded location.

Really lovely, clean property with well planned out spaces. The owner met me with a lot of grace, as I got there later in the evening. He was very accommodating and welcoming. A cute little toad visited me after dusk; I named him Fred. My site was right on their stream, which lulled me to sleep instantly.. Fantastic showers! Porta potty….meh….but clean. Only thing I missed was a sink.
