The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

We also host workshops and on-farm events including the annual music, arts and food festival called Fledge Fest held at the camp site location each summer. Find more information on our website! The forest is actively managed for firewood and saw logs. The land is incredibly diverse from a high exposed hill top to a deep a forested mountain brook and everything in between. The camp sites are private from each other with a large common area at the top of the hill with a fire pit, lean-to shelter, outhouse complex with water for hand washing (seasonally available) and sweeping views of the Green Mountains. There are trails for hiking and mountain biking (no dirt bikes or ATV's) all over the farm and a beautiful brook in a sheltered mountain valley. We operate a small working farm on our 50 acre property. Approximately 7 acres is cleared fields where we grow hemp, pigs and chickens. We are at the end of a dirt road with private access and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. If you decide to stay with us we can guarantee you your own private tent site to get away from it all, or a beautiful spot to park your van, car or small camper, all while still being only 10 minutes to the amenities of town, 15 minutes to world famous mountain biking at Kingdom Trails, or 20 minutes to breathtaking Lake Willoughby. Learn more about this land: We have two private tent platforms located in a mature mixed hardwood forest on our 50 acre property, as well as one van/small camper/car camping site located on the edge of our field. Each tent platform site includes an elevated and level 10'x12' cedar tent platform, a picnic table, and more privacy than the car camping site. Parking is less than a 1 minute walk from the platforms down a well maintained woods road and gorilla carts are available to help haul your gear. Many guests who wish to stay right next to their cars choose to car camp on the edge of the field in the car camping site, either pitching a tent or spending the night in their small camper. The views from this site are breathtaking, but it has less privacy as it is located next to the communal firepit, and amidst our working farm so we will occasionally be around doing chores, (the chickens and pigs are early risers). The communal fire pit has a great view and a few chairs are provided. Seasoned firewood is available for purchase, and we ask that you please do not harvest or burn your own wood off the property. Potable drinking water and a portable toilet are also available onsite for our guests. Well behaved pets are welcome, but must remain on a leash to ensure they do not disturb our plants or farm animals. We are at the dead end of a gravel road and can guarantee complete privacy and seclusion if you are looking to get away from it all, yet still be located conveniently within 10 minutes of Lyndonville, 15 minutes to Kingdom Trails and East Burke, 20 minutes to Lake Willoughby, and at the doorstep to the beautiful wilderness of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom!

One of the oldest properties in town the Day Homestead (as it is known) dates back hundreds of years and our house was built in 1810. It was run as a successful trout farm of 70+ years. Learn more about this land: We have two sites on our historic Vermont trout farm.  The first site sits near our post and beam "run in" horse barn.  It's a very flat site with easy road access and has 30 AMP electric service and we can provide potable water to fill up your tank. The second site sits a little further back (also very easy access) and closer to Quation Brook. It is better suited for boondocking as it is a little ways from the 30 AMP outlets. Again water is available. Our farm is very rural but close (2 miles) to interstate 89 with a well stocked country store in town. It's a  quiet setting near the gardens and a small stream. We are a small hobby farm that grows and sells produce to local coops.  We also produce and sell Vermont maple syrup and salsa.

Just a 5 minute drive to the bottom of the hill is the first branch of White River; a beautiful clean river for swimming and fishing crossed by multiple covered bridges that lead to the farm. We hope you will come visit the farm and enjoy the remote mountainous beauty of Tunbridge!

Our house built in 1750s and at one point had hundreds of acres passed down which were passed down from a kings grant The original area was named after the original settlers, the Browns. Our house was also tavern in the beginning. This property has only passed hands through 4 families and remained with the Browns for most of its life. It has stayed as a farm for most of its tenure.

The best camping near Lincoln with horseback riding guide

Where to go

Loon Mountain

Just north of town, Loon Mountain is an all-season recreation area that is particularly popular in winter. The mountain has 61 ski trails, with eight tree-skiing areas, six terrain parks, a superpipe, and a halfpipe. Off the slopes, there’s also snowshoeing and cross-country trails, skating, tubing, and a winter zipline.

Flume Gorge

Around five miles north of town, in Franconia Notch State Park, a boardwalk leads visitors through Flume Gorge, a natural chasm that extends 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The path is an easy loop hike and takes you past several waterfalls and natural cave-like rocks. If you want to set up camp nearby, Franconia Notch has two sites to choose from.

Woodstock

The charming town of Woodstock sits just south of Lincoln and has a good selection of places to eat and drink. Outdoor adventurers will find easy access to hikes up Mount Lafayette, Cannon Mountain, and Bald Mountain.

When to go

While spring and summer are ideal for enjoying the trails and river activities on offer, fall and winter have their own appeal. Fall sees the landscape busting into rich colors and brings the annual New Hampshire Highland Games, which are held annually in September. Winter offers an abundance of snowy activities, from skiing on Loon Mountain to snowshoeing through the White Mountain National Forest.
