This land, now known by it's view gifting fields, is one of Sandwich's top treasured gems. The Historic Farm was purchased by Townsend Thorndike from the first colonizing family to claim ownership of this unceded land, the McCrillis family. It was Town's place to get away from the busy life. As time went on and his money dwindled and plans to sell off some of the land arose. Townsend's son, Nick, foresaw a devastating development of conventional homes that would diminish the soul of this sacred land that held so much magic. So, Nick decided to move back to the homestead to create an example of what a healthy life for the land and its inhabitants looks like. HipCamp was the first step towards sharing and opening up the land to create an Intentional lifestyle. One in which we hope to share our way of being that brings awareness to the natural world we have fallen so far from. Nick and his tribe of like minds are creating a holistic, educational, retreat, workshop, and event center where people can come to learn how to co-exist in a harmonious relationship with nature and each other. Learn more about this land: Our property encompasses 3 different campsites: 1.) Camp with Stone Fireplace - a private gravel clearing with functional stone fireplace on an 11 acre parcel. 2.) A Frame to Rest In - a newer addition which is a tiny A-Frame structure close to, but separate, from the Fireplace site and shares a driveway. 3.) If the weather is better, and you want a more scenic way there with hiking -- take the 25 minute drive down to Lincoln and travel the amazing Kancamangus Scenic Byway (Route 112). This is 35 miles through the White Mountains with no gas stations, so you might want to top off while in Lincoln. Thirty minutes east is the Mount Washington Cog Railway, and you will pass the historic Mount Washington Hotel on the way. Fifteen minutes south and you can be at Franconia Notch State Park.

ATFS Certified Tree Farm Est. 2004 Camp with your group at our private Tree Farm / Conservation / Recreation Area. Established in 2004, we are an 87 acre ATFS certified Tree Farm located in the Blue Hills Range in the Foothills to NH’s White Mountains. Choose from one of four unique sites / outdoor spaces to best fit your camping needs; book a combination to reserve a section of the mountain, or book all four sites for total privacy or for events. Our Farm spans the northerly side of Hussey Mountain from the base to the summit. Guests are provided with private access to several miles of multi-use nature trails, multiple scenic lookouts, a three acre PYO blueberry maze, and a dock on our private eight acre pond with available boat rentals. At the 2WD shared parking area guests are provided with a outdoor shower with hot and cold water, a portable toilet, garden hose for washing, a power strip for charging devices, and a spigot with potable water for filling containers. Over two decades ago we created our first campsite for the purpose of hosting family and friends. Folks enjoyed camping on the mountain so much they often would choose our farm over traditional campgrounds. Hosting campers became a regular weekend event, and to accommodate more people we created three more sites spread out across the property. In 2020, we came across the Hipcamp app and started offering private reservations to the public. The name wolf Swamp comes from the Pony Express Riders that carried Mail from The Canterbury Railroad Station to The Northfield Station. There were many Wolf Sitings reported on the Trail through the Swamp by The Riders, so it was named The Wolf Swamp. Sweet Song Acres is 100+ acres of secluded forest nestled along the Little Sugar River, at the base of Perry Mountain. Located in rural Unity, NH and Charlestown, NH, just across the Vermont state line. Southernmost point, located in Charlestown is one of two campsites. The other is Shady Grove, located in Unity. The two sites, located in bordering towns share the same entrance and are connected by a 1/4 mile trail. Both are very large sites. Campers would drive to both sites down a trail so we highly recommend a vehicle with decent clearance and 4WD or AWD. Southernmost Point is a fully drive-in site. Shady Grove campers park above the site and the campsite is down a short path, just a few hundred feet or so. The property consists of varied terrain of rock ledges, lush moss, streams, and panoramic views at the summit. There are many options of local outdoor activities in the area or if you prefer, just sit and "listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock your soul".

His son, Brigadeer General Timothy Ruggles became unpopular after he introduced the Stamp Act, and was banished to Nova Scotia. His daughter Bathsheba became the last woman executed in the United States for the murder of her husband Joshua Spooner. (There’s a book about it called Murdered by his wife, by Deborah Navas.) Want to know local eateries? For breakfasts and lunch there is The Whistle Stop diner, it was a former Boston & Albany Railroad station. Speaking of railroads, did you know that The Mass Central Rail Trail runs through Gilbertville! Rose 32, is a well known bakery that serves tea, coffee and sandwiches. There’s Hardwick house of Pizza- for tasty pizza and subs, which also serves beer. Feeling fancy? Try Hardwick Crossing Country Club (features a 9 hole golf course), it has a restaurant with a full-service bar, gorgeous scenery! Its a 3 minute drive from here Mimi’s for your morning coffee and lunch, yum! And it overlooks our beautiful Common! Also check out Stone Cow Brewery in Barre -has a kids play area while you wait for your meal! Ware has Mexicali Grill, Theresa’s Restaurant for Italian foods, Bellies Barnyard for traditional American cuisine, and, Pig Park BBQ for comfort food! Farmer Mat in North Brookfield has take out meals- there are picnic tables available, beautiful views. Things to do: You can kayak, and fish, at Swift River in Belchertown. Hardwick is the home of the oldest agricultural fair in the US, held every year in August, and, every Sunday there’s a small farmers market on the common. Hardwick also has a winery- Hardwick Vineyard and Winery, they have all kinds of events, (find them on facebook) and, check out Lost Towns brewery- the name is a throwback to the 4 towns that were submerged to create the Quabbin Reservoir! Medicine River Pow Wow is in August here in Gilbertville, on River Run Rd. The East Quabbin Land Trust has birdwatching and fabulous views, and the Mass Central Rail Trail entrance is located here. Bike it or hike it! Quabbin Reservoir is close by for boating and fishing. There are free concerts in Grenville Park in Ware, (check for dates). Ware also has Janine’s Frostee ice cream and fast foods- and live music on weekend nights! Also check out these on line: Ragged Hill orchard and Rock House Reservation in West Brookfield, and Carter and Stevens farm in Barre. The Leicester, and Mendon movie drive-in’s. Old Sturbridge village is 30 minutes away. Lake Lashaway has a swimming area in East Brookfield, right off of Rte 9. It’s about 20 minutes from here. This 150-acre property has been in our family for 32 years and now houses three generations. Built in 1900 it was a traditional dairy farm until the 50's and 60's when potatoes were planted on the fields for the Boston and New York markets. By the 70's and 80's it became a gentleman's farm for a retired couple from New York City and the dairy farmers nearby hayed the fields. When we purchased the property in 1993 we continued offering the hay, built greenhouses, planted vegetable and flower gardens, ran a traditional Bed and Breakfast, now airbnb. We leased some of the fields to a local organic seed company for 13 years until they purchased their own property. The farm remains certified organic and is still being hayed by a local dairy farm, the gardens are community managed using regenerative and sustainable practices when ever possible. In the commercial garden, seed crops are being planted once again. Much of the cultivated agricultural land is protected under the Vermont Land Trust, to ensure that it remains used for agricultural purposes. We love to share our farm and forest with others. In addition to our very intentional farming operations, you can find wild edibles tucked away on forest trails. Wildlife and wildflowers abound. Views and sunsets. Check out the 968 acre wildlife management area that abuts the property. Plenty of trails through the woods leading to Wolcott Pond and hidden beaver huts and dams. Children 12 and under no charge. We now own 365 acres that was named Texas Four Corners (no one knows why) in the middle of 1,600 undeveloped acres with the closest inhabited house from our property is over a half mile away. 15 Mile Stream runs thru the property. 16 miles to Common Ground Fair in Unity. 15 miles to Waterville and 28 miles to Belfast.

It overlooks the village of Chelsea, the shire town of Orange County. Free Verse Farm is a hilltop herb farm run by two art-making, herb-loving farmers. The property boasts twenty sloping, knoll-laden, open acres overlooking the First Branch of the White River as it passes through the scenic village of Chelsea, Vermont. We have incredible views, forest trails that offer magical woodland wanderings, and spacious campsites in our fields. We also invite you to explore our cultivated fields of herbs and vegetables and become acquainted with the wide variety of tea, culinary, and medicinal herbs that we grow and process on our farm. You can also visit with the cows that spend their summer munching our delicious green pastures. Our full line of herbs and herbal products are for sale via our website or at Free Verse Farm Shop, located just one mile from our farm in downtown Chelsea. Weekend Trip to Campers Welcome to The Wolf Swamp.

Absolutely beautiful campsite along a little pond. We had some surprise visits from a couple horses, Emily and Sunny, from a neighboring farm which put a great big smile on our faces. Dwayne, the man, the myth, the legend himself brought us two very large bags of wood which we happily burned throughout the cold night. Still one of my favorite sites for its convenience and scenery. Although the highway is right next to you, after a little bit it turns into white noise and helped me sleep like a baby. Thanks again for a great stay on our final trip of the year. See you guys next year!

Best site I've ever stayed at! Good amount of space between sites but still an easy walk to the kitchen+water, outhouses were clean and convenient with an excellent sense of interior decoration! We stayed at Birch Grove on a particularly cold, rainy, and windy Halloween weekend and Nick already had a large tarp set up over the easiest tent spot.... plus a cow skull and a few candles for the ambiance. Excellent vibes 👌

Incredible site with multiple pitches spread out around the land. We were lucky enough to be put on the beat site...on site 7 (despite booking the field site). What a view and great facilities. Fit pit with grill for cooking whilst watching the stars and white mountains. Camp cooking kitchen and shower near the main house. Fire wood for sale. Compost toilet at each site. The only problem was we wished we could have stayed longer! Look out for the friendly moose and check out the little boat on the pond. Fab site 10/10.

This is one of those rare finds that you don’t want to leave. Our campsite was on a grassy knoll overlooking the river/lake and surrounded by acres of lawn. We could watch the water from our bed. With the main house built in 1860 this property has seen many uses such as a farm, retail Christmas store, church, rental cabins, and a gravel quarry among other things. I now try to keep the back acreage by the brook and pond as natural as possible for habitat, as well as you the campers! Learn more about this land: I have 3 well spaced out RV sites on the property. They fit different sized rigs so please read the descriptions. Pets are welcome at the sites, but please have them remain leashed or under your effective verbal control. Most will have cell service at the sites or there is a free public Wi-Fi in Wilmington center. Private yet convenient to Downtown Wilmington, VT. Located between the Harriman reservoir and Lake Raponda, both great for boating, fishing and swimming. As well as the Deerfield River across the street, which runs through town. There is a public hiking trail that goes through the property. It goes from the Fairview ave. boat launch in Wilmington, all the way up to West Dover. You can access this at the back of the site. The sites are only a minutes drive from downtown Wilmington, or you can hike/bike there on the trail (approx 15 min). In Wilmington there is plenty of shopping, gifts, coffee, restaurants, gas, liquor store. I also have dry, split firewood available for $10 on site. Please don't bring your own unless it is prepackaged from shaws or bought from one of the local sellers right around me. Transportation of out of state firewood can bring invasive beetles to our forests...

We operate a small working farm on our 50 acre property. Approximately 7 acres is cleared fields where we grow hemp, pigs and chickens. We are at the end of a dirt road with private access and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. If you decide to stay with us we can guarantee you your own private tent site to get away from it all, or a beautiful spot to park your van, car or small camper, all while still being only 10 minutes to the amenities of town, 15 minutes to world famous mountain biking at Kingdom Trails, or 20 minutes to breathtaking Lake Willoughby. Learn more about this land: We have two private tent platforms located in a mature mixed hardwood forest on our 50 acre property, as well as one van/small camper/car camping site located on the edge of our field. Each tent platform site includes an elevated and level 10'x12' cedar tent platform, a picnic table, and more privacy than the car camping site. Parking is less than a 1 minute walk from the platforms down a well maintained woods road and gorilla carts are available to help haul your gear. Many guests who wish to stay right next to their cars choose to car camp on the edge of the field in the car camping site, either pitching a tent or spending the night in their small camper. The views from this site are breathtaking, but it has less privacy as it is located next to the communal firepit, and amidst our working farm so we will occasionally be around doing chores, (the chickens and pigs are early risers). The communal fire pit has a great view and a few chairs are provided. Seasoned firewood is available for purchase, and we ask that you please do not harvest or burn your own wood off the property. Potable drinking water and a portable toilet are also available onsite for our guests. Well behaved pets are welcome, but must remain on a leash to ensure they do not disturb our plants or farm animals. We are at the dead end of a gravel road and can guarantee complete privacy and seclusion if you are looking to get away from it all, yet still be located conveniently within 10 minutes of Lyndonville, 15 minutes to Kingdom Trails and East Burke, 20 minutes to Lake Willoughby, and at the doorstep to the beautiful wilderness of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom!
