5 Stars for Fledge the Resident Dog
I struggled with how to rate this stay. While the location worked for our needs and the host was genuinely kind and welcoming, the listing did not reflect what we experienced.
Between the Hipcamp listing and the farm’s website, the property was advertised with photos of livestock and an optional $15 “farm tour.” There were no animals present during our stay, and the only farm structures were two somewhat dilapidated barns. We were told the animals had been moved to a friend’s farm, but this is not reflected in the listing.
The “meadow” was a severely overgrown pasture. The pictured campsite was already occupied when we arrived, so the host mowed a narrow path up a fairly steep hill next to his house, cleared a small patch of brambles, and dug a shallow hole for a fire pit, leaving us a shovel. This felt improvised and not as advertised.
The bathroom was a converted horse stall with tarps for privacy; one was not fully secured, making the space feel exposed and uncomfortable from a privacy standpoint.
Because of these discrepancies, I attempted to switch campgrounds and opened a support ticket with Hipcamp, but never received a response.
The host was extremely friendly, and we have compassion for the possibility that they may be going through a difficult time. However, the listing should reflect the current reality of the property, not how it may have looked a year ago.
One bright spot was their dog, Fledge, who was a delight and came to hang out with us during our stay.
