Our campsites lie along the Old Buffalo Trace, the name given by early pioneers to the massive trail left by centuries of migrating bison that traveled right through this property. Making their way between salt and mineral licks along the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers, these herds were part of the plentiful wild game which was the reason so many local native tribes referred to old "Cain-tuk-ee" as their "Happy Hunting Ground". Our 7 campsites are constructed on "The Old Coates Homestead" where we make our home in the original 1858 Homestead house which we recently restored and where we make our delicious gourmet foods. Here are a few of our featured campsites: REDBUD MEADOW: Our first campsite used by hundreds of people over the years. A secluded lawn in the midst of redbud trees, easy to drive to and from with a pile of firewood and a metal fire ring. The premier site on our property. THE BAPTISMAL POND: As history goes the pond in front of this site was used in the 1800's for baptisms for the church visible from everywhere on the farm, thus our name. This is a tent site, easy to drive into and out of, fires permitted in season. THISTLEDOWN GATHERING PLACE: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very level, easy in and out with vehicles. Fires permitted in season. WHITETAIL SANCTUARY: Every night for decades a herd of whitetail deer graze in this pastoral setting. Drive in and out, fires in season. Suitable for a family sized tent. THE PENNINSULA: This camping spot is WALK IN ONLY. You can drive to the trailhead on grass and walk the path to the campsite (about 200 yards). One of two remote sites. It sits in the woods, on the bank of a wet weather creek which flows around two sides of the campsite. Fires permitted in season. TOTEM TREES: This site is WALK IN ONLY. A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING. SPOTTED FAWN HIDEAWAY: This totally secluded walk in campsite is suitable for a small tent only AND PERFECT FOR HAMMOCK CAMPING. This is a camping cabin, in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest. We are about 85 acres, surrounded by hundreds of acres of national Forest. We are located about 2 minutes from the Sheltowee Trail, and approximately 30 minutes away from Cave Run Lake, and about 30 minutes from Carter Caves State Park. This is a cabin with comfort. You can camp and also enjoy nature. The cabin is off grid, but has a generator for heat and Air conditioning. The outside toilet is close to the cabin and has a "Wash up" area. There is also an outdoor shower on the property just a short walk away, that features hot water. Everything you need to enjoy camping and hiking with a bit of comfort!

Our second stay! Once during Fall and this time Winter. We hope to visit again in all the seasons because each season has something unique to offer in these beautiful hills. Even in 30 degree weather of December, we arrived to a toasty warm cabin all lit up for us. Once we got settled for bed, we turned off the generator and stayed warm all night. (We did add our sleeping bag on top of the mattress just in case.) There's always firewood to enjoy an outdoor fire, coffee, and games/coloring for kids, lots of woods and creek to explore, and it's so peaceful and private! Cabin and outhouse are super clean! I highly recommend even in the Winter. Tip: if you stay when it's freezing, the shower may not be on- just ask, and I would bring the outdoor hand washing water inside the cabin at night so it's not freezing cold the next morning. We take a portable power bank with us to charge phones so that we don't have to turn on the generator for that. We don't have phone service there, but you don't need it. Unplug! There's wifi you may be able to connect to closer to his driveway or he's the type of host you could knock if you're having a real emergency. There's a restaurant gas station very close by with food and Wifi. The hosts are incredibly kind, fun, friendly people, generous also because with their price, really don't make money on this to justify the work involved. They just like sharing their slice of heaven as a gift! Hope you enjoy it as much as we do and take good care of it!

First off - The family is so wonderful and helpful. Second - The views are so worth the drive. Third - My dog loved being off the leash. Plenty of new smells. Fourth - I wish it had not been so cold and I had more time to take advantage of the pond. Great place that I would recommend to all.

What a great place! Doesn’t show its glory until you go around the barn to park/hook up, then wow! Rolling hills. Horses. Pounds with ducks. Beautiful. Best sunrise in a long time. AND: Driving up -go slow and take the third gate just like she says. Do NOT go too far -it is a long, winding, hilly, narrow road to get back (took an hour in the dark, dark, dark night). So glad we found this place!

I loved staying here as the cabin was well stocked with cleaning, eating/cooking, first aid, fire starting, coffee/tea, and more types of materials. The complimentary tank of gas for the generator was very helpful for lighting and cooling/heating the cabin. There is a nice front porch with 2 rocking chairs, a table, there’s 2 fire pits, a grill, a patio table with more chairs, complimentary kindling and chopped logs, plenty of trees to hang a hammock from, a bath house, an outdoor shower, and a personal creek. The whole experience was well worth it and enjoyable. Aaron was a very welcoming host as well.

As a person who lives in the city you often times forget what a get away in the woods will do to you and your mental health. I am so happy I booked with Aaron not only was he an amazing host that provided so many amenities, his little cabin in the woods definitely gave us the recharge we needed. Weekend Trip to Camping Along the Old Bison Trail

My family and I had the sweetest time camping on Marcus's beautiful property. It is so dreamy, and he was incredibly helpful and kind. Our camping site was really large and secluded, and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The porta potty near our site was helpful with all our kids, and the water by the main house was clutch. We will definitely be back, and plan on bringing our friends and family!

Perfect stop for our trip. Nice to unplug, the bathroom was pleasant, not your typical outside bathroom. Loved the outside “sink” outside the bathroom. The cabin was cozy and we only needed the generator for my espresso machine 🤣even though they provided coffee! The lights around the site were helpful and pretty. Would definitely stay again.

We had such an amazing experience staying in the treehouse. The children loved the slide on the balcony and the giant net hammock. The treehouse is well-equipped with electrical lights, fans, outlets, a space heater, and an A/C window unit. There are several miles of hiking trails to explore on the property, and we enjoyed crossing the net bridge and seeing the ruins of the 19th-century settler's cabin. Everything looked just like the pictures, and my kids were so sad to leave--they said they want to live there forever!

Weekend Trip to Backwoods Hideaway

This site is so nice. It's the perfect spot to unwind and relax with your spouse or chill with your family. We were lucky enough to be there on the 4th of July (also my birthday) Aaron was so nice and invited us to his get together and fireworks. We had such a good time, and got to meet some of his family too. They were just as sweet and welcoming as Aaron, the all even made it a point to come tell me happy birthday too. His daughter and her husband were my favorite part of the weekend! She is so sweet and her husband is the same. We didn't really go exploring, as we just wanted a relaxing weekend, not exploring weekend. We did however venture to the little gas station down the road, they have really good food! We really just hung around and did whatever. It was so nice. The cabin is really nice, the host really has thought of everything in there. The bathroom is even outside, which really gave it an added touch of charm. He has completely stocked that place, he has everything a lady would need. The site itself was so beautiful, especially at night. It's really the perfect amount of off grid camping to disconnect, but enough convenience to create an amazing camp site. We will be back for sure!!

Perfect place for kids (5 and 4). They loved the treehouse. I appreciated all the whimsical things on the property: we hiked the hobbit trail, played in camp creek for hours, crossed it on the rope bridge, swung on all sorts of swings, brushed wind chimes, and knocked out most of the scavenger hunt.

Second trip to the property was perfect. It was a lot warmer this weekend but with the canopy of trees and a beautiful breeze, it was far more cool than you'd guess. There's an ac unit if the breeze doesn't cooperate. This remains one of my favorite places to unplug.

This spot was remote and secluded but easy to get to. It is surrounded by a beautiful creek and host Aaron thought of everything. This was truly a peaceful escape with the comforts of home but wild enough to feel truly refreshed. My pup Roxy and I cannot wait to be back.

Weekend Trip to Camping Along the Old Bison Trail

I had an amazing stay at Steepleview Farms! The tent site was spacious with plenty of room to spread out and set up camp comfortably. Marcus was an excellent host—super communicative and responsive to both texts and calls, which made everything smooth from start to finish. The site itself is peaceful and private, surrounded by trees with plenty of trails to explore nearby. The fire pit was a great touch, and having a porta-potty on-site was really convenient. Firewood was also available for purchase, which made campfires easy and enjoyable. Honestly, there was nothing I didn’t like about this place. If you’re looking for a quiet, well-maintained campsite with a reliable host and great amenities, I highly recommend Steepleview Farms!
