Location! Location!
Breathtaking view and plenty of space to set up camp and enjoy nature. The bar was a nice central hub for our cooking setup and to keep it dry without having to set up a tarp. Fire pit great size and the constructed seating (boulders, rock slab tables, benches etc) gave plenty of room.
Where we pitched camp had plenty of tall trees around for privacy and blocking wind, which was extremely helpful as we got caught in a bit of some snow. The other site at this location is just across the loop but you wouldn’t notice so feels like you are in a private area.
Toilet on site could use some emptying and cleaning as it was pretty full and dirty when we arrived.
Other than that note amazing spot and can’t wait to come back when the weather is better!

I stayed at the bar with 5 of my friends there were lots of places to park our vehicles and set up tents and hammocks. On the second day it rained for hours we sat under the covered bar and joked and cooked food until it stopped and then we were right back around the fire ring. The gravel on the ground of the campsite helps the water to train quickly, we had no puddles. The view was truly captivating it made for a perfect base camp for our adventures into the Gorge. Even the porta potty was very clean. My only issue was the it’s hard to get tent stakes in the ground without a hatchet or hammer lucky I brought one with me so it wasn’t a big deal. I will return I. The future.

We absolutely love this property and the views are spectacular! There was a proposal in the group over the weekend and the background, with the sun setting over the gorge, couldn't have been more perfect! We'll definitely be back to this site again and again.

We rented the Bar for a girl’s weekend of camping and the space was great. The ports potty was clean and maintained, there’s plenty of table space, and the views are amazing. My rav4 handled the terrain fine. There’s quite a bit of traffic that come to turnaround at the site, but it wasn’t bothersome and we would absolutely book again!

The bar on the mountain continues to be one of our go-to spot with multiple families in Red River Gorge! Our crew tent camps and has a small pop up camper. Great views, sunrises, moonrises, and the best firepit around. We'll be back soon!

The Bar on the Mountain was the perfect spot for our 2 family fall break get away. The weather was a little warm for first of October, but there is plenty of shade at the site to stay comfortable. The views were just what we were looking for with a few fall colors starting to peep. The grounds were clean with plenty of toilet paper in the porta-pot. Following the written directions that were provided helped us get there safely in our 4-wheel drive vehicles. 20-30 minutes from the hiking we wanted, made this the perfect location. We brought 2 battery powered generators and were able to plug in the lights that are already present. Thank you for a beautiful Gorge experience. We can’t wait to return.

This was our second time at The Bar and as usual, we loved it. Quite and peaceful (with a few exceptions of ATV noise, but no big deal). Only suggestions would be to remove the junk that on site and trim back or cut down brush/trees that are starting to block the views.

Loved the camp, but directions were unclear to get there. We came from the Richmond area and were not able to see the landmarks she indicated due to our direction driving there
Camp was clean and had lots of space to spread out, great view, good privacy and had full bars of connection with Verizon and AT&T

This is our spot! It is so beautiful and peaceful, the sun rises and stars are unbeatable! It’s a perfect fit for our family and we are able to share it with multiple other families. The instructions are so clear and it has everything we need. We make it a point to come at least once a year and will continue doing so - it’s hard to go anywhere else once you’ve experienced camping at the bar!

We just did a company retreat and it was amazing. Setting up along the cliff had the best views. Sun rises are the best. Within 30 driving of Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge activities. We will be booking another corporate trip! You definitely want to have a higher clearance vehicles like truck, SUV, jeep, etc... as possibly the weather or ATVs have rutted out the drive up once you get past the Mountain Laurel Sign. We had a car in our convoy that was scraping the ground.

The Bar
The Bar was a great basecamp for us while exploring Red River Gorge. Great sunrises and nice amount of privacy and shade trees. A few folks came up to turn around at the loop but everyone was respectful and waved. Otherwise very quiet and peaceful. Saw chipmunks, hummingbirds, hawks and a little field mouse. Firewood bundles for sale at site was great and portapot was nice to have. The bar area was nice to have for a covered area to put our portable shower and generator. We rented both sites for additional privacy which was great and Sara was accommodating to let us check in early. She was responsive with any questions we had. Gravel road to the top was a bit narrow and bumpy especially since we were pulling our camper but we just took it slow. Some low branches we had to dodge at the top, would be helpful if those were cut or trimmed. We did smell the gas odor that other reviewers mentioned but it was only once a day and the smell disappeared after about 20 minutes. To me it smelled like when you pump gas. Not sure where it’s coming from but luckily it was only for a short time. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend. My only few suggestions would be to dispose of some of the broken chairs and other items laying around that aren’t usable, also the interior of the portapot could use some cleaning up.

We had a fabulous stay at The Bar and used it as our basecamp to explore Red River Gorge. It was great having the firewood bundles for sale right at the site and the portapot available, The Bar was an interesting and fun spot to hang and loved the shade trees to get away from the afternoon sun. Sunrises are absolutely stunning and we got lucky and had a fantastic blood orange full moon coming up over the hills at night. What a treat! We pulled our 8 foot camper up there and loved having the option to use our generator at night for a/c. The gravel road leading up to The Bar is a bit narrow and bumpy and some low branches along the way but we made it, just go slow. Privacy was key there although we did have a few folks drive up and turn around and a family did walk up out of curiosity. They were friendly and we ended up talking to them for a while. I think people see the signs that say “The Bar” and get curious, they actually thought there was a real bar there, lol. Sara was available if needed by email otherwise she was hands off, so everything worked out great. We did notice the “gas smell” that others mentioned. It only came a few times while we were there like once a day and would vanish after about 15 minutes. It just reminded me of pumping gas at a gas station so not sure what it is but luckily it didn’t last long. All in all, I would definitely recommend and glad we booked this site. We actually booked both sites to have complete privacy which was great!

It was an amazing spot to camp. Would definitely recommend camping at the bar site for the view! It rained and with view we had, you could see the whole rainbow arch! Beautiful! I would highly suggest not following the Google maps link. It takes you on a UTV trail not meant for cars...my AWD had issues. GPS to Ryders Ranch and follow Sara's instructions from there. Every now and then you will get the smell of the oil/gas fumes, only when the wind shifts.

Top Shelf campsite at the bar was a nice campsite once we moved the broken office chairs around the firepit. The view from the campsite would be better improved by cutting back some of the trees like they have done at The Bar campsite. The porta potty provided was a nice addition and was clean. The firewood for sale was great as well. If you are wanting seclusion this really isn't the site for you even if the other campsite isn't rented locals are allowed to come the site and use it. The Top Shelf campsite is only maybe 50-75 ft from The Bar campsite. It is a nice campsite but not if you are wanting seclusion. Sara was nice and handled our concerns.

This place is pretty cool, the views are fantastic and the bar is great if you were going with a bigger group. The site was not super clean and the oil smell others mentioned did exist, wasn’t a big deal for us but depending on the weather could be, great site but not well kept for the price

It is a great site - especially if you have a group of people. It is a shame that some people leave there trash in the firepit instead of putting it in the provided garbage receptacles. A little tricky getting in there on a motorcycle as there is a rocky climb as you enter the property. an be done on an adventure motorcycle but not recommend for a low Harley.

We stayed for one night and the place is big enough to have 2-3 vehicles parked nearby. We enjoyed our time there, it was quiet. We noticed the chairs provided for seating near the fire pit were damaged and old but we brought our own chairs, so that was not an issue. I’d suggest replacing them just get rid of them.
The portapotty provided was cleaner than most of the ones you usually use when public events happen. They also have fire wood for you to grab for $5.00, so that’s always handy when you want to have a fire.
The only bad thing I can say is that the people who camped there before left a portable toilet tent on the ground, otherwise it was very clean. I would rent this camping ground again.
Overall, the experience was great and would recommend to anyone to visit. Sara was very responsive and friendly when I asked questions about the rental.
You won’t regret renting from Sara.

My group had an incredible time at the Bar. Such beautiful views and a fun, unique atmosphere. It was the perfect spot to celebrate my partner’s 30th birthday with a handful of nature-loving friends! We would love to return.

My significant other and I really enjoyed tent camping at the Bar! The views were amazing, your far enough from the only other camping spot nearby to have privacy and the bar area gave it a unique factor.
I would definitely recommend this to others, but there are a few things of note. There were a lot of, what looks like, abandoned grilling equipment, stray chairs and tables and some other things tucked into the corners of the camp. Also, my partner and I did get some smells of the gas previously mentioned by other reviewers. It was a fairly windy weekend, so we’re assuming if you go when there is no wind, you may smell it more. With all of that said, I honestly will be wanting to come back and rent out both spots with family or friends.
