The Kilns @ The Red River Gorge

Our little family stayed here in our pop-up camper, and it was nothing short of magical. The hosts were absolutely amazing — so kind, accommodating, and welcoming. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and even met us upon arrival to help us find the spot and get parked easily. The campsite itself felt private and peaceful, surrounded by trees and nature with plenty of open space for our two-year-old and our dog to run, explore, and just be free. It was the perfect mix of seclusion and comfort — quiet enough to feel like our own world, yet close to everything we wanted to do near the Gorge. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The atmosphere, the hospitality, and the natural beauty all came together to make this one of our favorite camping trips yet. If you’re looking for a place to truly unwind and enjoy the outdoors near the Gorge, this is it. We can’t wait to come back.

We loved camping here! Wish we had been able to take advantage of the included firewood but the weather had other plans. Good space between other sites and beautiful fall colors surrounding us. And our host was super helpful and welcoming. Hope to be back!

My friends and I had a fantastic stay at the Kilns on our most recent climbing trip to the RRG. Kim was kind enough to meet us upon arrival (even though we showed up late in to the evening) and showed us to our site as well as giving us a rundown of the campground. The site was large enough for our small pop-up camper and a few trucks with plenty of room between sites. There was a very clean port-a-john close to our site which was very convenient for a primitive campground. The location, hospitality, and amenities were amazing. We will be staying there again and would recommend it to anyone!

Everything about this place is perfect.. we’ve stayed here several times. Host is always welcoming upon arrival and always there to go above and beyond! Plus free firewood! You can’t go wrong.

Hospitality Unmatched!

Hospitality was top notch! We rolled into camp with a group of 4 motorcycles. The camp host was very helpful with check in and recommendations for dinner at some local establishments. We set up camp and headed out to dinner. The camp host got firewood to our campsite and started a fire for us while we were away eating dinner. It was so nice to come back to camp and have a fire waiting for us. After a long day on the road this place was a perfect place to kick back and enjoy the evening with great friends and a perfect atmosphere.

Delightful and restful

What a lovely campground! This is extremely well-maintained and manicured by the hosts. Kim was raking the site as we arrived. She chatted us up and gave great recommendations. She also listened, picking up that we had evening reservations. We were debating whether to start a fire as we returned at nearly 10pm. When we pulled in, there was a cheery fire burning in our firepit! That was the most thoughtful thing imaginable. The sites are quite far apart, so you can see and hear others, but nothing like in a park service campground. This would be an excellent place to see a show, as there's a nice performance stage and sound stage. No 4wd needed. Very safe.

This was a great place to camp for the night. We were just stopping for an overnight and didn’t want to leave. Kimberly was unable to meet us when we arrived but gave us all the info we needed to get parked and settled in. Would stop here again.

Private Paradise at the Gorge

Just returned from a long weekend at the Kilns and already want to go back. Kim and Scott are amazing hosts for your Hipcamp experience. The property is easily accessed while still feeling like you are far from everything. We had a beautiful spot back along the tree line with a great mix of shade and sun for our solar. Scott greeted us on arrival and couldn’t have been more friendly. He shared some local knowledge of some good restaurants and activities, and even gave us a Kilns sticker for our camper. We felt at home right away and he graciously brought us a load of firewood for the evening. We had 2 neighbors for the weekend, but the sites are spaced far enough apart that we hardly knew they were there. It really felt like our own private camp. The outhouses were very clean and well stocked which is always appreciated while primitive camping. Just such a gorgeous place for a relaxing getaway beyond the usual campgrounds. It’s a great basecamp for exploring RRG and the DBBB We HIGHLY recommend!

Loved the ease of reservation with a group of friends on Kim's land. Very well kept grounds and plenty of trashcans. The host (Kim) was super friendly and welcomed all of us even in the rain! We had a great time and the firewood provided made for great bonfires. I would definitely recommend this Hipcamp to friends and family. I will likely return in the future. There are plenty of fun things to do nearby and Kim's welcome packet highlights a lot of them with a handy map! Thank you Kim for being such a gracious and welcoming host! Celia E. Excellent Hipcamp near RRG

Kimberly's Hipcamp was great! My husband and I camped with a few of our friends and stayed at the Kilns for 3 nights. We had 5 Hiker Trailers spaced out in her field and had plenty of space. Kimberly provided a list of things to do and places to eat around Red River Gorge. She checked in on us regularly just to see if we needed anything. We had access to a covered stage (we used it like a patio), port-a-potties, picnic tables, and an enormous pile of firewood. The location near RRG can't be beat; we would definitely stay here again!

Hiker Camping - The Way It Should B

We had a great stay at the Kilns. By we, I am talking about six squaredrop trailers with 11 seasoned and well traveled campers. Notable were the pavilion shelter (where we enjoyed a gas fire pit whilst it rained) and unlimited firewood for the remaining two nights. Sorry we burned so much Kim. A few among us frequently compete in big bon fire contests.

Lovely area to camp

Was a lovely area for several friends to go camping together with our tiny trailers. Loved the very large fire pit in centralized location so that we could all gather around and enjoy a warm fire on the chilly nights. Only one porta-potty functioning though, but it was nice and clean.

Easy to find, close to the gorge!

Kimberly met us as soon as we pulled up the drive and she told us where to park. We were able to set up without any issues and we were thrilled they provided free fire wood. We’ve never camped in a grassy field so that was different but appreciated the space to throw a football and have the kids run around. Separated enough from the other camp sites, that it felt pretty private. The port-a potties were clean and convenient. We left for the afternoon after getting settled and hiked right down the street at the gorge. Location was perfect. Would stay again!

Very peaceful stay at The Kilns. Plenty of space and spread out from other campers. The hosts were fantastic, they couldn’t be nicer. It was really easy to find, and the location is really convenient to a lot of great hiking in Red River Gorge. Also, a great restaurant/bar and ice cream shop is super close by. Our family will definitely be coming back to The Kilns.
