This new-in-formation ecological art project is currently recruiting visitors to backcountry camp in beautiful fields, on woodland rim sites, or at delicate campsites located along a system of woodland trails. As of 2024, camping here provides a glimpse into a 3 year-old successional prairie, which at this phase is characterized by spacious views of a gently rolling young prairie seeded with a growing variety of native flowers. Most likely a good fit for those who are self-sufficient and like to avoid busy camping areas, but still want to get out to the park quickly (~7 miles to the Visitors Center) or travel into Cave City (3 mi) for coffee/ice-cream/pizza/barbecue/bar/food/etc. Expand from the campsite into a sketch-work of trails, as if you were camping near the headquarters of a satellite nature reserve. Water tap and hose by main house parking area, for cleaning dishes, spraying off, or filling reservoirs. Camping funds allow us to plant trees (~400 seedlings so far and 75 planned for 2024), establish prairie grasses and flowers, restore wetlands, create trails, and remove invasive species. Thanks to our visitors for supporting this type of project! p.s. Bundles of dried and split firewood are available onsite, usually a mix of red cedar and oak with a suggested donation of $6/bundle. We also share kayaks now on a suggested donation basis (45/), providing a flexible option for visitors to float the Green River through the national park.

Backcountry Rim
Kevin's land was beautiful, private, and very welcoming. Him and his family are incredibly nice and welcoming and help out with anything you may need. Walking around and seeing all of the wildlife and plants was amazing. We recommend Kevin and this campsite to everyone!!

Hickory Field
This was my third time camping on Kevin’s property and it was wonderful, as always. This was my first stay at the Hickory Fields campsite. It was super easy to access and has a beautiful view. The big tree there gives lots of shade, making it a great summertime spot. You will not find a better host than Kevin. He is so kind and made the stay such a great experience. Will be back many more times in the future!

Backcountry Rim
Nice, private, quiet area. Great view of the stars and really close to mammoth cave. Kevin accommodated me last minute as I was passing through - if I get to come back to see the caves, I’d definitely stay here.

Great host and location!
Kevin's place was a great stay if you are visiting Mammoth Cave NP and surrounding area. Location was about 10 minutes to the park and 5 minutes to town. Backcountry Rim felt private and the wild pasture and flowers were enjoyable. The campsite provided 2 chairs and a fire ring. Fire wood can be provided if you need. I had mentioned to Kevin before our stay we were interested in kayaking and he kindly offered for us to use his at a fair offer similar to the nearby outfitters. We preferred that as our time that day was more flexible. Kevin and his two sons did a great job assisting with our kayak adventure! Our vehicle also needed a jump start and they were helpful in getting us back up and running! We will definitely stay at Kevin's again when we're back in the area!
