This ecological art project is recruiting visitors to camp on scenic prairies, on woodland rim sites, or at delicate campsites located along a system of woodland trails. As of 2026, Beardsnest provides a glimpse into the 5th year of succession, which is characterized by spacious views of a gently rolling young prairie that is flanked by the rocky and steep slopes of a mature forest.
Pet friendly and a good fit for self-sufficient types that prefer quiet camping over dense layouts, but still want to get into to the park quickly (~6.2 miles to Visitors Center) or travel into Cave City (3 mi) for a greater variety of food, drink, and other cave experiences. Expand from campsites into a sketch-work of prairie and woodland trails featuring characteristic karst elements of topography.
Visitor support allow us to plant trees (~530 seedlings as of March 2026), establish native grasses and flowers, restore wetlands, create trails, and remove invasive species.
In our opinion, the essential Mammoth Cave NP experience should have 3 basic layers: 1) the underworld (cave tours), 2) upper world (hiking), and critically, the flow of water that connects the two (Green River). Mammoth Cave is unique in the way that a study of the underworld will repeatedly draw the mind into a creative space where we imagine what is beneath the surface and how these worlds are linked, while above ground hiking on land or kayaking on the rich and biodiverse Green River. There is more here than can be digested in a lifetime of observation, but examining in orbits of the 3 layers will provide a foundation of intuition and understanding.
Floating the Green River is like leaving developed reality and dropping into pure nature. We offer kayak trips and guided tours that leave from camp, tailored to your schedule.

I enjoyed camping on a beautiful private property that was well groomed. It was super peaceful and felt safe. It did rain and storm a lot, with no flooding issues, so I think that brought a ton of mosquitoes. I would recommend bringing natural mosquito repellent . I would definitely camp here again!

The site was private and very pretty. The pictures probably don't do it justice, but there's not a whole lot more to photograph - just pretty green grass and trees - which is far from a complaint. You can't photograph peace and serenity. The check-in and out was easy. Train tracks are right there, but we only saw/heard one train. Our stay was not impacted at all so don't let that deter you. We would visit again.
One tip - the address doesn't take you right there, but the directions in the listing are good. Look out for the railroad tracks and the red gate.

The directions to the camper were pretty easy to follow. Private and cute little spot. I wish it had been cooler during our stay so we could enjoy the firepit on the porch. The camper itself was very comfortable. Well stocked with basic kitchen amenities. The bed was super comfortable. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Our site was in a great location; just outside of the prairie and into the tree line. The biodiversity in the area is incredible after all of the effort put into the land, and there are several hiking trails to enjoy it as well! Kevin is very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. He recommended some nice places to visit. The site is also a very short drive to Mammoth Cave, which was nice! Overall a great stay!

Weekend Trip to Camp Escape
One of the prettiest and most thoughtfully designed Airbnbs I've ever stayed in! Everything was spotless, well organized, and the hosts truly thought of every little detail, we never needed anything that wasn't already there. We arrived while it was raining, and the views were absolutely amazingggg, making the whole place feel even cozier. It was easy to find. My only tinyyyy wish is that checkout was at 11 AM instead of 10 AM since the checkin was 4pm I believe, but everything else was perfect. Can't wait to come back!

If you are looking for a pristine, remote, boondocking stop, this is one of the best. You are nestled safely behind a gate, with views of horses and beautiful wildlife. The bathhouse has two immaculate half baths with high shower heads for those tall folk, and water pressure that will keep you talking about the shower long after you've left the site.
Oh, and if you arrive receiving severe flood warnings, have no fear - the site is up high, safe from rising waters.
If we find ourselves in Kentucky again, we will certainly be return guests.

The property is very quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed some pretty sunsets. The bathrooms were very nice with excellent water pressure.
We woke up one morning and had a couple fawns playing around the tree line, which was fun to watch. I also moved a boxer turtle out of the road, so keep an eye out for wildlife on the road up to the property.
We did not have any issues with ticks around camp. The grass is mowed.

Weekend Trip to Tar Springs 2
It is so incredibly beautiful and peaceful. We went fishing, canoeing, paddle boating, and hiking. The kids loved the rope swing that went into the lake. We will definitely be back. Also, Chuck and Van are the sweetest!
