There are 2 great hiking trails within a couple miles. There are 3 hot springs within 30 minutes. The Great sand dunes national park is within 1hr. The San Luis valley offers, hiking, mountain biking, ATV trail, Horse back riding, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rafting, refuges for wildlife watching.
New for 2024, The flushable toilet and shower are now operational. The shower house is located in the center of the loop with sites 1,2,3 on the south side of the building. It has an on demand water heater, there is also a a flushable toilet located in the same space. An important note about the toilet, Do Not flush anything other than toilet paper please. DO NOT flush feminine hygiene products, napkins or hand wipes or anything other than toilet paper. These type of things plug and burn up the pump while pumping out the tank. This will cause the toilet to be unusable.

We have 30/50amp sites (shade and partial shade) around our lake, 20 amp in the "upper campground," and dry camping (full facilities) on the Arkansas River with Gold Medal fishing with access for all campers for fishing and floating. Salida area is also home to a ton of hiking (14'ers anyone?) and mountain biking trails. The Royal Gorge is a quick 30 minute drive with restaurants and other fun near Canon City. Located on 3 acres of land, this private campsite features a large 16x20 canvas walled tent with a covered deck. There is a large wood stove inside to keep you warm all night long during all four seasons. The tent can easily accommodate up to 8 people. There is 1 twin over full bunk bed, 1 full size bed, and 1 futon. There is one more additional mattress and bed-frame under the bunk bed for additional sleeping (some minor furniture rearranging is required to make space for the additional bed). The Great Sand Dunes National Park - the tallest and most amazing sand dunes in North America - is visible from almost everywhere on our property. Look to the south to see this alternate view. Plan to make a day-trip to the Dunes! Don't forget about the Ziggurat (it's visible from our deck too).
We are also close to several natural hot springs resorts with both family-friendly and clothing-optional locations. And the choices for hiking are too numerous to list.

There are 2 great hiking trails within a couple miles. There are 3 hot springs within 30 minutes. The Great sand dunes national park is within 1hr. The San Luis valley offers, hiking, mountain biking, ATV trail, Horse back riding, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rafting, refuges for wildlife watching.
New for 2024, The flushable toilet and shower are now operational. The shower house is located in the center of the loop with sites 1,2,3 on the south side of the building. It has an on demand water heater, there is also a a flushable toilet located in the same space. An important note about the toilet, Do Not flush anything other than toilet paper please. DO NOT flush feminine hygiene products, napkins or hand wipes or anything other than toilet paper. These type of things plug and burn up the pump while pumping out the tank. This will cause the toilet to be unusable.

Located on 3 acres of land, this private campsite features a large 16x20 canvas walled tent with a covered deck. There is a large wood stove inside to keep you warm all night long during all four seasons. The tent can easily accommodate up to 8 people. There is 1 twin over full bunk bed, 1 full size bed, and 1 futon. There is one more additional mattress and bed-frame under the bunk bed for additional sleeping (some minor furniture rearranging is required to make space for the additional bed). We have two 10' x 12' cabin tents available to rent. Both tents have 4 cots and wood floors. There is an unencumbered view of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and they are located a short walk to the Willow Creek greenbelt. There are composting toilets and water on site. Fresh eggs available from the cooperative garden!

Atalanta Association is a land-based educational non-profit enterprise which is developing a model permaculture and husbandry environment. It is a place of learning that fosters growth for children and adults in the healing, creative, and technological arts, honoring the human spirit, nature, and community.
Located on 44 acres in the high-altitude desert of the San Luis Valley, the project is using permaculture-based land-use design to demonstrate sustainable living. The structures on the land demonstrate alternative building methods and materials, renewable energy sources, and ecologically appropriate technology. Ongoing programming includes the Cooperative Orchard Garden, the High Valley Dairy Goat and Sheep Co-Op, and the Therapeutic Riding Program.
All programming and development is focused on honoring the human spirit, nature, community, and cultural awareness with the mission of “Learning to live with personal responsibility in peace and harmony with all Creation.”

New in 2025, includes private use of the Groovy Wanderer, a gazebo-covered mid-century modern trailer. The Wanderer is a sheltered hangout/dining/bonus space to help guests comfortably connect with Crestone's outdoor majesties. Not intended for overnight stays due to County and HOA restrictions.

Our unique off-grid Crestone Hideaway home is available for you to experience the full cosmic vibe of Crestone & the San Luis Valley. Our home is designed and outfitted with recycled, upcycled, & reimagined materials, which all contribute to the very off-beat comfort of our home.
The off-grid life is special because it cuts out the noise of on-grid living. Our ranch is fully powered by solar (& back-up generator). We also have hi-speed wifi. We offer full use of our quirky adobe & stucco home. The front bedroom has a front row seat to the deck and the Sangre de Cristo mountains just through the French doors. It has a full bed and a single trundle.
The master bedroom offers a queen bed, beautiful southerly view, wood-burning stove, spacious sitting area, and opportunity for rejuvenating & relaxing.
We're in the International Dark Sky community. The stars are magnificent. You will be amazed by the vast expanse of the universe.
The Great Sand Dunes National Park - the tallest and most amazing sand dunes in North America - is visible from almost everywhere on our property. Look to the south to see this alternate view. Plan to make a day-trip to the Dunes! Don't forget about the Ziggurat (it's visible from our deck too).
We are also close to several natural hot springs resorts with both family-friendly and clothing-optional locations. And the choices for hiking are too numerous to list.
This is your headquarters for a fabulous time in the SLV.

Beautiful spot right on the water! Definitely rustic but a great value for the price and had everything we needed. The owners were very nice! Great privacy for Pioneer Cabin 2. Kids enjoyed walking across the swinging bridge. Beautiful moonlit sky to enjoy the evenings. If you're fussy about linens or cush pillows, bring your own. We were there during a heat wave in late March and it was quite warm in the cabin. The oscillating fan was a lifesaver but it doesn't hit one corner of the beds. If it's peak summer, you may wanna throw in a second one. The coffee pot is a nice touch and fridge and microwave too! Made for a low maintenance quick getaway from the city and a short, scenic drive to Salida. Crucial that it was pet friendly as we love being able to bring our doggos. Would definitely come back. Thanks for having us!

Very clean property. Great clean showers as well. Only downside is that the heated pool isn’t operable during their winter period and neither are the showers inside the campers. However, they were responsive via text when I had questions. I’ll come back when it’s not off season and additional amenities are available.

This was a great stop on my best friend reunion tour! We opted for a cabin and it was a cute, warm, clean and cozy little place. You don't have your own bathroom and have to walk to the common building for stalls and showers, but that was ok- it was clean and not too far away from the cabin. Be sure to peek in to the vintage "RV museum"- 3 restored RVs that are retro outfitted and fun to explore. The woman manning the check in/shop was super friendly and gave good recommendations for places in Cañon City, which is about 15 mins away. We were also pleased to be a short walk from the Gold Mine gem shop, full of beautiful things! In October the area is out of season, so it was pretty quiet, and we were happy with that! I would recommend Starlite for a welcoming glamping experience.

Sweetwater was such an incredible time! The cabin was perfect and setting was even better. My husband and pup spent two days here and wish we could have stayed longer!!
Only critique was that it certainly wasn’t private. The neighboring cabins are super close, and several kids fishing just kept walking through our area and even using our front to fish. Not a big issue, but something to keep in mind if you’re looking for something private!
