Awesome location with plenty of hiking trails and great views! It was very windy the weekend we stayed, but we set up camp in the creek and barely noticed. We would definitely like to come back.

Great Sand Dunes Mountain Getaway
This site was absolutely wonderful! It is well maintained with plenty of shade. It wasn’t windy so we didn’t stay in the river bed area, but we hiked all around there and it was so cool. We drove to the sand dunes and rented sleds at Spin Drift. We came back to the most beautiful stars! The was no one for miles. The site was easy to get to/ good directions. Would highly recommend especially if you’re planning on a sand dune trip!

Commincation was good, but the spot was pretty windy and the bathroom was a bit worn down. Didn't feel like it was entirely worth the price.

We had a great time at this site. There was lots of space to explore and the views were incredible!
The site was easy to find with the provided directions and Tanya was very communicative. The site offered seclusion and privacy, exactly what we were looking for.
There is a lot of cactus on the property so make sure to keep a close eye on your pets’ paws.

Loved the property. It was secluded and next to horses so I was a happy camper. Camped above the gorge under the trees. Came in super handy in the heat. It was an amazing spot to camp with being in close distance from the Dunes and a reservoir to get all our activities in for one day ☺️

This land was absolutely beautiful. We pitched our tent in the gulch and it was a perfect fit. Beautiful landscape with gorgeous views. This space was peaceful, well taken care of and perfectly laid out.

The gulch was beautiful! Lovely camp setting. Toilet shack was a nice amenity. It’s about an hour to the visitors center of Great Sand Dunes NP, but our family loves the solitude and quiet of camping away from others.

I wouldn't waste your money here. First of all there was no sign for the road to turn in to making it difficult to find. After a heavy rain the lock wouldn't open and she blamed it on us and reported us to hipcamp. Additionally for the amount I was paying to stay here, I expected there to not be buckets of human feces lying around the campsite. Would not recommend this place!

Tanya was an amazing host, super helpful and even offered to let us stay an extra night. The property is very beautiful and secluded while still being not far from civilization. Awesome place to stay if you’re going to the sand dunes!!

Beautiful spot! The stars we’re fantastic and the campsite area under the trees has a great view of the valley below.
One suggestion for the host is to put rocks or some sort of identifier for the paths because it’s hard to tell what is a path and what is not.

This is very rustic and rugged! We were a tad disappointed in the toilet situation, but that's alright. It was very secluded and the STARS were incredible. We camped in the gulch and it was perfect shelter from wind. Our campfire with the 8 of us worked great down in the gulch as well. The main point of our trip was to get to the sand dunes early the next day, which we did!
Parking is a bit of a problem if you have more than, say, 3 vehicles. We had two of just people and stuff, and an additional one that two of our campers slept in, so they were a little farther away from everyone else. But by the time you hit the hay after an evening of s'mores and stargazing, who cares? :) Would recommend if you like rustic and secluded, don't mind walk-in, and don't need lots of fancy amenities.

Hidden gem! It's so private and on such beautiful property. Our dog was free to roam (just be careful, lots of cacti! Our dog was totally fine and seemed to instinctively avoid the cacti). Tanya's instructions are so clear, we had no trouble finding the location. Trails to the campsites are short and very clearly marked and the sites themselves were perfect. We will absolutely be back!!

Perfect escape from everything! Super private and beautiful land to explore and hike around. My daughter was ecstatic at the tree swings, which allow you to see all the natural beauty surrounding you. Highly recommend, but pack light because hauling things in takes some muscle. Great for an extended stay as well because there’s so much to explore and a reservoir ten minutes away if you want to fish. Tanya was fantastic at communicating and we had a wonderful, peaceful time.

The four of us really enjoyed staying at this property - the views were beautiful and there were plenty of spots to choose from to pitch our tents. We felt safe and Tanya was very helpful and quick to respond to my questions in advance of our stay regarding the state of the road up to the site; we visited GSD NP at night and had no issues getting to or from our campsite. We never could find the pit toilet, but luckily had trowels and experience backcountry. Thanks, Tanya! We would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone passing through or hoping to visit GSD NP without the campsite crowds.

We had a really relaxing time staying at Tanyas campsite. Was so nice to be able to have a warm fire at night in the gulch. One thing to know, the parking is quite a ways from campsite 1 and if you're staying in the gulch, its another treck down with all your items....we brought way too much stuff for that lol otherwise its a beautiful private site and watching the bright, star filled sky at night was incredible!! Our dog Tucker absolutely LOVED being able to roam free as well.

Campsite is a short walk from the parking space. While most cars should make the drive to the property, the parking space is located above the road, accessible by a *steep* dirt ramp. While my subaru forester made other fine, most cars probably cannot safely make the entrance.
Beautiful, rugged hills surround the campsite. Watch out for cacti if you venture off the trails! Overall the campsite was asked expected and offers both open and protected camping areas.
Pro tips: pack lots of your own water and bring a camp toilet. Also the campsite in the ravine is the most protected from sun and wind. For about 6-10 hours a day, expect intense wind that kicks up lots of dust. Do stay in the lower campsites if you have a choice.
Notes to the host: While we appreciate the option of using your provided chemical toilet, it wasn't emptied prior to our arrival. The open toilet attracted flies. Also, we found discarded underwear, various trash, broken bottles and cans, in and around the campsite. The campsite was, generally speaking, in good condition, but we do expect a higher level of upkeep for $55/night
Tl;Dr: this site offers a great, private option for primitive camping in a beautiful and unique region of Colorado. It's also perfect place to stay if visiting the great sand dunes. We would visit again

Awesome 5 acres!!! Me and my wife spent 3 nights in the gulch. Great campsite!!! A little bit windy but good thing we camped in the gulch. Tanya said that the gulch would be less windy and it was. Thanks Tanya for that information and all our help. Great host. Also thanks for letting us hike our property. It’s amazing!!!!! Near the campsite there’s lot of cool sites to go check out. If you don’t mind driving a little bit. The scenery alone is worth a drive. Just remember that you hike in and it’s a leave no trace campsite. Which we loved!! The hike in is near the vehicle but you don’t see the vehicle or hear any. When in and by campsite. We bought the gear in by wheelbarrow and it worked sweet. I would recommend this campsite and we would be back. Wish we owned that property!!! Very sweet area!!!! Thanks again Tanya!!!

Our camping trip to Great Sand Dunes Desert Escape was amazing!! It is a very private camp site. The scenery was beautiful. The stars at night were unbelievable. Tanya was super friendly and quick to respond to any questions I had prior to our camping trip. My group of friends and I definitely want to come back!

Highly recommend this site. It's as advertised - peaceful, private, scenic, incredible night sky. I probably didn't explore it as much as I should have.
Tanya was outstanding - responsive and very easy to work with. In retrospect, I wish I'd asked more questions. The only expectation I had that wasn't met was the parking area being a short, very easy, hike from the nearest campsite/firepit. I expected to car camp it so having to haul gear ~100 paces wasn't ideal but I survived (clearly). Don't let that dissuade you, this property is great and worth your time.

Beautiful landscape views of Sand Dunes. Set up in the in the gulch where there is far less wind for your tent and camp fire. Lots of cactus everywhere so would def not recommend for dogs unless they’re familiar with terrain.
