There are trash cans and restrooms at the rest stop at I-25 and Highway 165. Firewood is available to purchase nearby in Colorado City at Ace Hardware and others.
You will have your choice of Camp site #1 and/or #2. They have flat mulched areas for an RV/Camper or for tent camping. Each has a fire ring and picnic table. Both sites allow room to turn around an RV or camper. Bring your own toilet for now. There is minimal shade available, so plan accordingly. Potable water is available at the blue ground hydrant in front of the little cabin to the west. It takes about 10-15 seconds to start running. The water pressure is low.
Use of firearms is prohibited. No fireworks are allowed.
Quiet time is after 10:00 p.m. Please be respectful of neighboring properties. remember you are on a hilltop so sound can travel :)

Driving a short while on a dirt path leads into a nice area surrounded by many willow trees of the area, around a turn on the dirt path opens up to a large open area. The open area consists of fine soil, lots of dry grass during the winter and and a dry creek at the edge of the property. This area is great for camping and listed activities. The nearby town has much much more to do in nature featuring fishing, camping, horseback riding and hiking. The property is on the other side of the creek. Be careful of spiky ground plants. Other vehicles may need to slow down and take it easy through some potentially rough areas.

As the Scenic Passenger Train is heard in the distance you'll look up towards Mount Blanca and imagine your next adventure living among the wildflowers of this High Desert Mountain Hipcamp. After recovering from a wildfire, the ancient sage brushes that had previously made the land harsh and unwelcoming are nearly gone, replaced with an abundance of grasses and wildflowers if blessed with rains. Open Land as far as you can go to the East you'll follow the Coyote canyon to high mountain lookouts. There are old logging maintenance roads you could take advantage of, so Hike, Bike or Motor around the local area. Fort Garland and Blanca have a community center (pool), septic dump and water fill and can provide groceries. The Great Sand dunes are about 45 minutes away. The Sand Dunes swimming pool, fed by a very hot artisan well is about an hour away. Mountain Home Lake is also within 1/2 an hour or so for fishing/water sports with a nice boat ramp. Escape from light pollution like never before, a clear night sky will make the whole trip worthwhile! Lots of wild life and you will most likely see some deer, hear the coyotes, and count the different colors of the humming birds. You can book a train ride out of Alamosa, and visit the local historic towns. The views will make it hard to leave the campsite, but there are tons of experiences and things to do in the area so make sure to do some research before you arrive. The weather and wind can be unpredictable in the mountains, so be prepared. There are two entrances onto the property, one at the bottom and one at the top. You can avoid some wind by camping near Lewis-Smith Rd at the lowest part of the land. Also, the site can accommodate large trailers/RV's but just make sure to plan your entrance/exit carefully and don't go to far down the hills. Just choose a wise spot to park if in a big rig. There are some small tires around that you can use to sit on or if you dig a hole that you fill in before leaving you can make a temporary toilet. Make sure to haul out all your trash and leave the site cleaner than it was when you arrived and respect the land. If you do come across a mess from the previous camper and clean it up, just let us know and we will give you a refund for the night. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Crestone is a beautiful, remote, high desert wilderness surrounded by classic Colorado (almost) 14-ners with high alpine lakes, rivers, hot springs, rock climbing, mountain biking, and our property borders on the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Crestone is also known for its 30 diverse spiritual centers, incredible star gazing as a official dark sky community, alien sightings, and it's beautiful and unique housing community that focuses on building with reclaimed and natural building methods. Our home, like many of the homes here, is creatively made from recycled materials, using two train cars for the body of the house. The property also hosts a 1200 square foot Dojo, built by the previous owner, a Qi Gong master lineage carrier. We continue use the space for yoga, capoiera, dance and other events. We are completely off grid, using solar power, wood heat and some propane when needed. We aren't on sewer or septic, so this is an opportunity for the understanding of composting toilet and humanure systems. We stayed at Corral #1. It is beautiful and right by the Arkansas River. We would sit and watch wildlife activity on the river. The managers were available and helpful (we purchased ice from the camp store). It was nice to have flushing toilets and showers available. The road is right behind the camp and you can hear the traffic (but at night we played white noise and it did a good job blocking it out). We enjoyed our stay!

My dog & I very much enjoyed the peaceful seclusion and excellent hospitality provided by Mary Anne & Alex.
Their property is exactly the kind of remote tranquility I seek in backcountry drycamping settings (they have shorepower available, but I didn't need it during the 5 days)
Mary Anne's homemade muffins were an unexpected treat!
I would just recommend that campers be aware that rain can make for slickly surfaced unpaved, but graded roads.
The terrain is only slightly sloped, without rutting ...so high clearance isnt needed: Nonetheless, I lost traction, was sliding a bit until locking hubs & using 4WD.
A great secluded refuge overseen by very nice hosts. Two thumbs up!

This was the perfect place for our family. The kids had lots to do to keep them busy and the host was so nice and accommodating. I wish we would have stayed another night. There are so many games to play on the property, and along with the swimming, we just couldn’t squeeze it all in. They also did a movie night and had live music one night during our stay.
A couple practical things to keep in mind… .there are goat head stickers everywhere on the far side of the property. We brought our bikes and left with flat tires. The dog also had a hard time with them getting stuck in her paw. I don’t think this is throughout the campsite, but more specifically the pull through sites near the fences. Also, the camp store is very cute and you can tell a lot of love was put into it. It felt a little more for show, though. We forgot ketchup and they didn’t have it. Also, we hoped to maybe get a cup of coffee one morning since our coffee pot was on the fritz and they didn’t have coffee.

What a fun place to camp out. The owners are so interactive and provide daily activities like live music or movies. The place is absolutely adorable and well maintained. Great location to some hiking and biking routes!

We love every stay here. The staff is friendly, the park is small, quiet and clean. The pull-through sites are specious and the river is peaceful! Like many parks in this corridor, it’s right on the road but you barely notice. We can’t wait to come back.

We are so happy we found this spot on Hip Camp! The owner was great with communication before our trip and checked while we were there that everything was going smoothly. We have a big 5th wheel and a dog, so the wide open space was a huge bonus instead of a regular RV park. Thank you for sharing your space!
The spot provides electric, water and sewer, but they are not all right together since it is a private lot so you might need to get creative on how you hook up. All good though! Loved that they have some furniture to sit and eat outside under the big sky and provided a BBQ as well.

What a great spot. Easy to get to and has all the hookups you need. Janine was very quick to reply to any text I sent. Nice amount of trees, not a lot of shade, but really pretty land. I would recommend this spot to a friend.

This place was so beautiful. A hidden gem I like to call it. The host was very kind and greeted us upon arriving with a nice welcome and map for us. So many different types of camping options here. We walked by all of them and they were all well kept and overlooked the river. We didn’t want to leave.
