Driving a short while on a dirt path leads into a nice area surrounded by many willow trees of the area, around a turn on the dirt path opens up to a large open area. The open area consists of fine soil, lots of dry grass during the winter and and a dry creek at the edge of the property. This area is great for camping and listed activities. The nearby town has much much more to do in nature featuring fishing, camping, horseback riding and hiking. The property is on the other side of the creek. Be careful of spiky ground plants. -No fires what so ever! Fire danger is extremely high in this area.
- Although we are only forty miles from the Sand Dunes park, it is a four hour drive to get there, so maybe not the best area to stay if the dunes are on your list.
- Days in the summer can get pretty hot and shade is hard to come by, so plan a day trip to Florence river park, (about 30 minutes drive)and hop in the Arkansas river and cool off.
- this is a wilderness area and all Colorado wildlife is present.

The Sheep Mountain property it’s located in a mountainous area. There are 7 miles of dirt and mountainous roads from the highway to the property. Although the dirt roads are maintained there may be grooves and ruts in some areas due to weather. Please be advise that trucks and four-wheel vehicles will have a much easier time navigating these roads.
Other vehicles may need to slow down and take it easy through some potentially rough areas.
PROPERTY UPDATE:
DUE TO THE RECENT WIND STORM, SOME TREES WERE UPROOTED AND BLOWN OVER ON THE PROPERTY. TREES WERE REMOVE FROM THE ROAD AND CAMP SITES. SOME ARE STILL DOWN IN THE AREA. WE ARE WORKING WITH LOCAL CONTRACTORS TO HAVE THEM CUT DOWN FOR FIREWOOD AND MOVED OUT OF THE WAY.
THE DOWNED TREES DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE ABILITY FOR YOU TO BRING YOUR RV OR TENT TO SETUP CAMP.

Weekend Trip to The Nomad Ranch
We had a great night at the Nomad Ranch! Angela’s place is perfect - she was so communicative and helpful with our last minute booking. The cabin is in a great location and you can’t beat the views. Was super clean upon arrival and we so appreciated the cold water Angela left out for us. We also loved the huge open windows and saw so many stars! Would definitely stay again.

One note is that Mosca Trailhead is about 3 miles away. We could have hiked to the great sand dunes and back reportedly 6 mile round trip and a easy trail.

We spent two nights at Jamie and Paul’s land and we had the BEST time! They both are so attentive and had a very comfortable set up. We had access to a shower and flushable toilet, as well as hammocks and the adorable little library. They offered great suggestions of nearby activities and made us feel right at home. The views were incredible and the picnic tables at the sites were so convenient. 10/10 would definitely recommend and will be back in the future!
