The Stranges are professional fish and wildlife biologists and have decided to share this special place for others to enjoy. The property hosts a diversity of plant and wildlife species that might be observed during your stay. Prehistoric and historic resources can be observed along the river corridor. Please be aware that some wildlife species including rattlesnakes, bears, and mountain lions have been observed on the 117-acre property and could potentially be observed near the campsites.
The Ranch's northern portion of the property supports a leased farming operation. Farming operations should not interfere with camping activities.
Day trips are possible to Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, local caverns and wine tasting, and historic gold towns.

The End of The Driveway is one big site for buses/RVs/big vans next to the Soup Kitchen. 1 Pine and 2 Pine are up a separate driveway on the ridge.
The driveway spot is down the driveway a couple hundred yards from where we usually are so you’ll more or less be on your own, depending on if we have work to do down there or if there are other campers. We are happy to chat or leave you be, just let us know what your needs are. If you’re looking for a more isolated spot, see the listings for 1 Pine or 2 Pine.
The 2nd area is “1 Pine” accessed by our second driveway that is 100 yards down the road from the farm. The driveway is kind of rough but definitely manageable with a truck, SUV or sedan if you’re willing to go for it. The drive goes up a couple hundred yards to the hilltop where there is a clearing and, you guessed it, 1 pine tree. From the back of the clearing there is a trail that leads you to 2 Pine, which is a walk that takes just a few minutes. 2 Pine is walk-in only but has great views of the sunset and is totally secluded and private and would be a good spot to either bring some friends for a little sunset party or for someone who wants to seriously unplug. There are plenty of flat spots to pitch a tent.

The price of camping includes the Ranch experiences of feeding the animals and collecting eggs. Our property is great for children! We have a trampoline, a tree house, a large livestock water trough that we use as a kiddie pool in summer, a great swing set, and room to play.
We live on a quiet 10 acre property with trees that provide some shade, and all of our sites are near the horse pastures. You might hear horses nickering and chickens clucking. There is lots of room to walk or run around. A Treehouse is available for kids to play in, a trampoline to jump on, plus we have a 17 foot high swing for kids and adults alike! You can walk the property to observe the horses, or sign up for a special horse, tractor, or welding experience.
Come camp in a very quiet and safe horse and farming area. We are near the end of a dead-end road. Our camping sites are somewhat private, some with more shade and others with more mid-day sun.
We specialize in "Horse Experiences" tailored to your level of comfort and needs. None of the horse experiences listed on our site require any prior experience with horses. We will make sure you are safe and comfortable while working with the horses.
*NOTE: Experiences are not available on Sundays (our sabbath day). We can fit them in on Saturday afternoon/evening for Saturday-night campers, or Monday morning for Sunday-night campers.
We have a private bathroom with flush toilet and sink.
Summertime brings hot days and (usually) cool nights to our area. It is not uncommon to experience 100 degree days in June, July and August. Most evenings cool down, thanks to the Delta Breeze, to around 60-70 degrees overnight. Wintertime brings cooler daytime temps (50-60 degrees) and colder night temps (30-40 degrees).
We are located about 10 minutes from the Galt area, which has a large variety of Fast-food, as well as several nicer restaurants. There is also a Wal-Mart (with groceries) and a nice Supermarket. We are about 6 miles from 2 country stores in Herald and Wilton (with gas station).
Sites accommodate up to 6 people, and you can add up to 2 more for an additional fee. If you need more than 8 people, then consider booking 2 or more sites.
With horses and the activities we do with them, dogs are not allowed.

Tent sites are next to the pear orchard. Choose any site. There is no need to meet with the host when you arrive. Follow the red arrows. Do not proceed the home located at 1071 Fruitridge. Look for the Hipcamp sign and red arrow markers and turn left into the orchard lane.
Location: Use google maps and locate 1071 Fruitridge Rd in Placerville, CA.
When you get to 1071, which is a house on the right side of the paved driveway, look for our Hipcamp sign in red, turn hard right into the orchard and follow the red arrows past a wood barn, and up to a small red shed. At this point you may camp in the meadow next to the shed or you may proceed to the next meadow over to the left (follow red arrows and look for umbrellas). We normally only have one site occupied per evening. Ocaisonally two sites will be occupied. The sites are very private and quiet as this is a large, private ranch.
You can park close to your tent site. 2WD / 4WD access weather permitting.
We offer 3 sites in a large meadow area. Max of 4 persons per site.
RV's welcome but we do not have hookups. RV's will be parked next to our barns surrounded by pear orchards.
Fresh drinking water is available in the tent meadow area.
Hot showers are now available at $10 extra per nite per site.
A gas BBQ is now available at a common area. Please don't move the BBQ.
Deer, wild turkeys, geese aplenty. Ample walking opportunities on our ranch and wild forestlands and amazing granite rock outcrops. Visit the South Fork of the American River (you can raft in summer!) Hunt for old gold mines on our place and, maybe, find some new ones! Go wine tasting very close by (Lava Cap, Madrone, Boeger) and visit Sutter's Mill in Coloma, where gold was discovered back in 1848.

The L3 Ranch was founded in 1974 when my grandfather bought the property for his show cows. In 1978, someone gave him a racehorse to pay off a debt. From then on, the property was known for its Quarter horse race horses, with some of the best in the state being born right here. In 2013 he found our he had cancer and handed the ranch down to me, Travis. While he survived the cancer, he's happy in retirement playing cards with his buddies every week and hanging out with his dog.Now the ranch is known for its horse boarding, cattle, and goats. Wondernut Farm is an upstart, entirely off grid, working farm-stead being built from the ground up. We breed milking goats and sheep, heritage pigs, and are in the process of converting to a grade A dairy and creamery! We use organic practices, management intensive rotational grazing, and dryland pasture management. We sell our animals locally so that others can have their own milking and meat animals. Our location is stunning and historic, and the beauty of the wild, natural landscape is powerful, yet offers easy access to both Yosemite Valley and the San Francisco Bay area. The area features excellent road and mountain biking in the immediate vicinity, vast access to hiking and backpacking trails, a huge variety of rock climbing in the area, the best whitewater rafting in California on the Tuolumne River, with some tasty places to eat or drink coffee in the nearby town of Groveland, just 10 minutes away.
Accommodations at the farm are certainly rustic, and private but not secluded, with occasionally heavily project-exploded shared kitchen and living space, showers, and airy flush toilets.
Do be advised that animals are pooping, hammers are hammering, sometimes we need to look into a health or animal injury related issue. Sometimes there is blood in an animal birth or slaughter, and our working guardian dogs have been known to be noisy some nights. Water and electricity are both very limited (though we reuse all our water), waste must be carefully sorted into a number of different categories, and there is always evidence of ump-teen projects unfolding at once. The most difficult condition during much of the summer are nuisance flies, which are always gone at night. We have almost no mosquitoes or ticks.
Depending on the exact situation and time of year, guests may have the opportunities to snuggle with baby animals and run our herd to or from pasture, and maybe even get their hands dirty picking veggies in the garden.

The driveway spot is down the driveway a couple hundred yards from where we usually are so you’ll more or less be on your own, depending on if we have work to do down there or if there are other campers. The 2nd area is “1 Pine” accessed by our second driveway that is 100 yards down the road from the farm. The driveway is kind of rough but definitely manageable with a truck, SUV or sedan if you’re willing to go for it. The drive goes up a couple hundred yards to the hilltop where there is a clearing and, you guessed it, 1 pine tree. From the back of the clearing there is a trail that leads you to 2 Pine, which is a walk that takes just a few minutes. 2 Pine is walk-in only but has great views of the sunset and is totally secluded and private and would be a good spot to either bring some friends for a little sunset party or for someone who wants to seriously unplug. There are plenty of flat spots to pitch a tent.

The price of camping includes the Ranch experiences of feeding the animals and collecting eggs. Our property is great for children! We have a trampoline, a tree house, a large livestock water trough that we use as a kiddie pool in summer, a great swing set, and room to play.
We live on a quiet 10 acre property with trees that provide some shade, and all of our sites are near the horse pastures. You might hear horses nickering and chickens clucking. There is lots of room to walk or run around. A Treehouse is available for kids to play in, a trampoline to jump on, plus we have a 17 foot high swing for kids and adults alike! You can walk the property to observe the horses, or sign up for a special horse, tractor, or welding experience.
Come camp in a very quiet and safe horse and farming area. We are near the end of a dead-end road. Our camping sites are somewhat private, some with more shade and others with more mid-day sun.
We specialize in "Horse Experiences" tailored to your level of comfort and needs. None of the horse experiences listed on our site require any prior experience with horses. We will make sure you are safe and comfortable while working with the horses.
*NOTE: Experiences are not available on Sundays (our sabbath day). We can fit them in on Saturday afternoon/evening for Saturday-night campers, or Monday morning for Sunday-night campers.
We have a private bathroom with flush toilet and sink.
Summertime brings hot days and (usually) cool nights to our area. It is not uncommon to experience 100 degree days in June, July and August. Most evenings cool down, thanks to the Delta Breeze, to around 60-70 degrees overnight. Wintertime brings cooler daytime temps (50-60 degrees) and colder night temps (30-40 degrees).
We are located about 10 minutes from the Galt area, which has a large variety of Fast-food, as well as several nicer restaurants. There is also a Wal-Mart (with groceries) and a nice Supermarket. We are about 6 miles from 2 country stores in Herald and Wilton (with gas station).
Sites accommodate up to 6 people, and you can add up to 2 more for an additional fee. If you need more than 8 people, then consider booking 2 or more sites.
With horses and the activities we do with them, dogs are not allowed.

Tent sites are next to the pear orchard. Choose any site. There is no need to meet with the host when you arrive. Follow the red arrows. Do not proceed the home located at 1071 Fruitridge. Look for the Hipcamp sign and red arrow markers and turn left into the orchard lane.

When you get to 1071, which is a house on the right side of the paved driveway, look for our Hipcamp sign in red, turn hard right into the orchard and follow the red arrows past a wood barn, and up to a small red shed. At this point you may camp in the meadow next to the shed or you may proceed to the next meadow over to the left (follow red arrows and look for umbrellas). We normally only have one site occupied per evening. Ocaisonally two sites will be occupied. The sites are very private and quiet as this is a large, private ranch.
You can park close to your tent site. 2WD / 4WD access weather permitting.
We offer 3 sites in a large meadow area. Max of 4 persons per site.
RV's welcome but we do not have hookups. RV's will be parked next to our barns surrounded by pear orchards.
Fresh drinking water is available in the tent meadow area.
Hot showers are now available at $10 extra per nite per site.

Deer, wild turkeys, geese aplenty. Ample walking opportunities on our ranch and wild forestlands and amazing granite rock outcrops. Wondernut Farm is an upstart, entirely off grid, working farm-stead being built from the ground up. We breed milking goats and sheep, heritage pigs, and are in the process of converting to a grade A dairy and creamery! We use organic practices, management intensive rotational grazing, and dryland pasture management. We sell our animals locally so that others can have their own milking and meat animals. Our 110 year old hay barn and the roof of the former lumber mill were all we had to work with in getting off the ground.
Being first and foremost a functional farm, we can't help but offer a somewhat warts-and-all look into everything it takes to be working to our goals. Our hearts are, and always will be, educational and local community focused, and we work closely with farmers and friends alike in better understanding our innovative animal husbandry, power, pasture and water systems. Whenever we have time, we'll afford the same time and opportunities to interested hip-campers.
Our location is stunning and historic, and the beauty of the wild, natural landscape is powerful, yet offers easy access to both Yosemite Valley and the San Francisco Bay area. The area features excellent road and mountain biking in the immediate vicinity, vast access to hiking and backpacking trails, a huge variety of rock climbing in the area, the best whitewater rafting in California on the Tuolumne River, with some tasty places to eat or drink coffee in the nearby town of Groveland, just 10 minutes away.
Accommodations at the farm are certainly rustic, and private but not secluded, with occasionally heavily project-exploded shared kitchen and living space, showers, and airy flush toilets.
Do be advised that animals are pooping, hammers are hammering, sometimes we need to look into a health or animal injury related issue. Sometimes there is blood in an animal birth or slaughter, and our working guardian dogs have been known to be noisy some nights. Water and electricity are both very limited (though we reuse all our water), waste must be carefully sorted into a number of different categories, and there is always evidence of ump-teen projects unfolding at once. The most difficult condition during much of the summer are nuisance flies, which are always gone at night. We have almost no mosquitoes or ticks.
Depending on the exact situation and time of year, guests may have the opportunities to snuggle with baby animals and run our herd to or from pasture, and maybe even get their hands dirty picking veggies in the garden.

We had the most amazing time on Jeremy’s property. It’s absolutely beautiful and our campsite was everything we could have asked for. Jeremy was so kind and accommodating when I wanted to change the dates due to weather and was even more welcoming when we arrived. The campsite is just a 15 minute walk down to the lake which is wonderful, we spent the entire day there. Our dog would probably also like to say that he had a great time playing with the puppy all day. Thanks again can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful, fun, great hospitality. Amazing spot for animal lovers! Jeremy is a super kind guy and great communicator. Lake access is killer, but solid incline on the hike back up to campsites. Might keep in mind for groups with accessibility needs, but otherwise a nice amount of exercise! Everything was as described or better. Highly recommend!

Terry was a wonderfully kind and knowledgeable host! You can tell that he truly appreciates the land and each guest that visits. My fiancé, two pups and I, stayed at Strange Ranch for 3 days and it was magic. The river was easily accessible, the campsite and amenities were well kept and the views from the site were unreal. During the day you could relax by the river at the beach and at night, the stars & moon were so bright it lit up the sky. Our pups got to roam and explore unleashed which made our stay stress free. I highly recommend renting the gold mining kit and to try your luck in the river. We spent the entire day in the river feeling like kids again and that was a priceless experience. On our last night, we got to hangout with Terry and his family for a drink and great conversation. We went on a camping trip and left meeting incredibly kind new friends. 100% recommend coming here. We will definitely be back!!! Thank you Terry
P.S if you're lucky you'll get to meet their sweet lab Whiskey and watch Terry play fetch with him in the river :)

Weekend Trip to River Oaks Camp
We wanted to camp and had a single night away from the kids. Staying in the yurt was just what we needed! We loved being able to show up and enjoy our time in nature. It was so serene.
Directions were very clear. The yurt was beautiful and very neat. After only being there a couple hours, my husband was already make plans to return. Thank you for hosting us Stephanie!

If you need time to get away and enjoy a beautiful piece of Northern California, this is the place. We spent a wonderful weekend at site #1, exploring the Mokelumne River and the peaceful surrounding including a gold mine. Terry responded quickly to our questions, gave clear directions for RV access, and even met us to guide us to the campsite. The site was spotless, very level and thoughtfully equipped — everything we needed was provided. We had such a great stay that we’ll be booking again soon. Highly recommended!

This ranch is such a gem! The property is absolutely stunning and right now in the Spring all is lush and green and lovely. We were able to book Site 1 and it was super easy to navigate with our trailer and had more than enough space for the two of us and the dog. The owners Debbie and a Kevin were super friendly and made sure to grab us around feeding time so we could meet all of the ranch animals …llamas, goats (and baby goats!!!!!), emu, alpaca, and chickens! You can tell they love their land and their animals and are happy to share that with you…I even got a llama kiss! Highly recommend checking this spot out, we will definitely be back!

This camping trip was honestly everything we could have asked for and more. The location was beautiful, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing outdoors. Waking up to the calm water and open space was incredible. We even took a small boat out on the water which made the experience feel like a little adventure.
The campsite itself was great — plenty of space, a covered area for cooking and hanging out, and everything felt clean and well kept. It was the perfect mix of being outdoors while still having the basics you need.
Our dog had the best time too. She got to explore, relax, and even ride in the boat with us which made the trip even more special.
The views, the quiet atmosphere, and the overall experience made this one of our favorite camping trips. If you’re looking for a place to unplug, enjoy nature, and just have a great time outside, this spot is definitely worth it. We will absolutely be coming back.

Beautiful land and beautiful sunset. Off grid feel. Super private. Dogs were very friendly. Goats stayed away and were nice to watch. Set up camp/tent and had a great couple of days. The lake is super close. 15 min bike ride. Only needed to get off the bike twice to walk little parts.

Camp Joy is a piece of heaven. It’s just 1 spot so there is literally no one around. Butch and Emma were great, felt like they were watching out for us all night. Just note no water, no electricity, no restrooms or garbage cans. It’s totally rule.

An absolutely beautiful and well-kept site! The sounds of the creek (which include frogs croaking) will lull you right to sleep. Leo, the groundskeeper, was very welcoming and kind! As mentioned in another review, we were the only campers so Lily and Leo allowed us to roam around and pick any campsite. We booked site #1 but I believe we wound up around site #7! The outdoor shower was very nice and the string/fairy lights, that are scattered around the area, are also a plus. We will definitely be back!

Incredible experience. The host was above and beyond accommodating, and his knowledge of the area made the experience extra special. We cannot thank him enough for how kind and welcoming he was, and he had so many interesting facts to share. This is a gem of a location, with a spectacular view and so much wildlife, particularly birds. You can spend a lot of time exploring the area, and the sound of the river was perfect to fall asleep to. This spot is also located near many caverns and historic towns if you don’t want to spend the entire time at the campground. We will definitely be back!
