We overall enjoyed camping at this very private orchard! There was a pond right next to us! We saw lots of wild animals including a flock of quails, deer, ducks, and turkeys! The showers were extra charge but we did enjoy the warm water and nice shower after being out in the wilderness. Only complaint is that the toilet and shower room has two big windows that do not have any privacy covering so we felt exposed. Also the door to the laundry room didn’t close all the way so someone could accidentally walk in on you while you’re doing your business or showering. We just ended up changing in the shower which at least had curtains. Otherwise, nice camping spot!

Awesome place in the heart of Apple Hill! Three ponds with plenty of fishing access (caught 11 in about an hour in the evening). It’s a pear farm with unlimited picking and a rich family history in California’s ecological transformation. WILL absolutely be returning even being from just down the hill in Sacramento. The graded area for camping isn’t huge but with just three sites it was more than private enough with fresh potable water, a huge bathroom within eyeshot and a perfect symphony of frogs and birds to fall asleep to. Only regret is staying only one night and not having enough time to explore all the massive property had to offer in just under two days. Total gem of a hipcamp, including the owners, and excited to return for even just another overnight. A stones throw from a big and little city with a lot of history. 10 out of 10 would recommend!

This is a very quiet, lovely spot among pear trees and nature. The bathroom is about 100 yards from the camping spot, and there is a spigot right at the camping spot.

We stayed for 2 hours before we packed up and left. Upon arrival, I asked the host if we can bring our 2 little dogs which he said was fine, so that was a plus. I paid extra for a grill and early check in. The grill was $10/ day. I let them know I arrived and where we parked, thinking maybe they’ll greet us and bring the grill we rented. That didn’t happen. After we pitched our tent we noticed our dog eating something. It was dog poop. Gross. The grass was long and dry and scratching our ankles. And looking through all the tall grass, we noticed there was dog poop everywhere attracting flies. That’s when we decided this wouldn’t be a fun trip, but more annoying. So we left. The area we pitched our tent near the red shed had some housing structures nearby with a deck. Not sure if it was supposed to be usable by us because the listing did say there was a picnic table which we didn’t see besides the stuff on the deck. There’s a bathroom but it’s weird, there’s a door wide open on the other side so someone can just walk in on you. We paid for 2 nights and the grill for two days and was only refunded $50 from the host. Total let down.

Great location. Trails right on the property. Went to bed listening to frogs and woke up to blackbirds singing. My dog LOVED running around and eating blackberries.
The listing says boating is possible but I didn't see any instructions so I didn't bother flipping the boat over. I also wasn't sure which spigot was potable but I brought enough water with me for the trip. Bathroom worked as expected and I used the utility sinks in the adjoining room to brush my teeth.
The maps link on the hipcamp message took me to the corner of Larsen and Carson 15 mins away, instead of Fruitridge so don't use that. The instructions I got for checking in said to go to the end of the paved road to the barn and text but that must be out of date. There's a hipcamp sign with arrows on the left side across from the first house. I was directed there after wandering around looking lost near the second house. 😅

Nice spot. Definitely give the place a positive review. Very dusty but the land owner did level the spot pretty well. Host was nice and personable when he stopped by. Toilets are real, but a bit of a hike. There are wild blackberries growing all over the place- watch for the thorns. They weren’t fully ripe, but the couple we had were still tasty.
So future campers can be prepared- There are a couple ponds right near the site. Flocks of geese have found them which is awesome until they take off honking their heads off at 5:30am. Those ponds are also major mosquito breeding grounds. There are fish, frogs and such in the ponds, but not enough to eat all the bugs. We ended up getting ourselves a thermacell mosquito repellent at the local hardware store. It did what it was supposed to, but it until we got that end of things taken care of, we got *lots* of bites.

My husband and I car camped on this property and found it to be lovely. It was a 4:00 check in which left a short amount of time to set up before dark with “winter hours”. It would have been nice to enjoy the set up and the daytime hours a bit more, but the morning sun was delightful. I would highly recommend connecting with the host for the directions to help navigate the way on the property as it was a bit more challenging to find “where” to be on the property. All was good and we appreciated the communication Ben had given. Thank you!

Ben and his wife welcomed us to their property this weekend as we visited Apple Hill. We found the location and surroundings to be fantastic, with a picturesque view of the nearby pond and ridge line making for a beautiful sunset. Bathroom amenities were better than anticipated. The hosts were welcoming and had a little chat with us about the region. Would stay again.

Really beautiful property, nice trails to walk around on. Benjamin was responsive and helpful. The only thing I would share is that the meadow is sloped and the surface is lumpy and uneven, so there isn’t a flat spot to put your tent. Therefore recommend bringing a thick pad to sleep on. The photo of the sweeping green meadow in the posting is not the place you camp, and the path you travel on to get from the road to the site could be problematic for cars that don’t have higher clearance or are oversized.

“Great location! The campsite offers a nice, private spot with well-maintained walking trails and three ponds/lakes where you can relax. I also enjoyed being able to pick and eat fresh pears and apples from the nearby orchard—such a cool experience. During my stay, I saw six deer, a flock of five wild turkeys, and plenty of smaller critters and birds. It’s a perfect spot for anyone who enjoys nature!”

This was our first time camping here. Ben and his son were communicative and provided detailed directions to the site. We easily leveled the camper and set-up in time to see the sunset and enjoy the cacophony of the bullfrogs from the nearby pond. We camped in Mid-May and insects are no joke. Be sure to bring plenty of insect repellent. The site is an easy trip after wine tasting - Lava Cap Winery is very close by. There is a flush toilet and shower (we did not use the shower). This is a great overnight stay and very quiet. We plan to visit again.

The land was very pretty and Ben was super helpful and responsive. We loved taking the rowboat out on the pond and enjoyed hearing and seeing the wildlife (deer, turkeys, rabbits, birds, frogs). It was nice to be the only campers- so relaxing and peaceful.

Benjamin’s site is absolutely beautiful! If you like sleeping in a quiet, private place, this is it. The site is very well shaded from the surrounding oaks and the sunsets are beautiful and I think the only thing it needs is leveling out and clearing some brush. Otherwise I plan on coming back as there are acres and acres to explore.

The site at King Madrone is in a beautiful orchard on a private estate. There are amazing views and even a private lake just a short walk down the hill from the site. The tent set up space is just outside a small guest house, where you can use the toilet, shower, and of course, potable water. The area is not set up as a campsite, so there is not a fire ring or picnic table. We brought our own portable propane fire ring. Also, given that King Madrone is not set up as a campground, it's very private. Benjamin, the host, was very responsive to my questions. Be sure to communicate about the location with him, since the spot is located a bit further down the way than the physical address.

A heavenly spot. Felt welcome and safe. Comfortable and relaxing. We saw geese, dragonflies, deer. Make sure to practice safe food storage so the critters don't try for a snack. Host was welvoming and considerate. Great spot if you want to explore the area at yoyr leisure. Vineyards, farms and a beautiful view.
