The L3 Ranch was founded in 1974 when my grandfather bought the property for his show cows. In 1978, someone gave him a racehorse to pay off a debt. From then on, the property was known for its Quarter horse race horses, with some of the best in the state being born right here. In 2013 he found our he had cancer and handed the ranch down to me, Travis. While he survived the cancer, he's happy in retirement playing cards with his buddies every week and hanging out with his dog.Now the ranch is known for its horse boarding, cattle, and goats. Wondernut Farm is an upstart, entirely off grid, working farm-stead being built from the ground up. We breed milking goats and sheep, heritage pigs, and are in the process of converting to a grade A dairy and creamery! Our location is stunning and historic, and the beauty of the wild, natural landscape is powerful, yet offers easy access to both Yosemite Valley and the San Francisco Bay area. The area features excellent road and mountain biking in the immediate vicinity, vast access to hiking and backpacking trails, a huge variety of rock climbing in the area, the best whitewater rafting in California on the Tuolumne River, with some tasty places to eat or drink coffee in the nearby town of Groveland, just 10 minutes away.
Accommodations at the farm are certainly rustic, and private but not secluded, with occasionally heavily project-exploded shared kitchen and living space, showers, and airy flush toilets.
Do be advised that animals are pooping, hammers are hammering, sometimes we need to look into a health or animal injury related issue. Sometimes there is blood in an animal birth or slaughter, and our working guardian dogs have been known to be noisy some nights. Water and electricity are both very limited (though we reuse all our water), waste must be carefully sorted into a number of different categories, and there is always evidence of ump-teen projects unfolding at once. The most difficult condition during much of the summer are nuisance flies, which are always gone at night. We have almost no mosquitoes or ticks.
Depending on the exact situation and time of year, guests may have the opportunities to snuggle with baby animals and run our herd to or from pasture, and maybe even get their hands dirty picking veggies in the garden.

Heart Valley ranch hosts 300+ acres of rolling pasture nestled along the beautiful Jackass Creek. Access to Yosemite via 120 takes 1 hour , Groveland 10 minutes, and Coulterville 5 minutes. We have 824 acres on a beautiful cattle ranch with two small ponds. On our property, you'll find frogs, turtles, oak trees, pine trees and stunning views of Yosemite.
We have several campsites to choose from including RV camping, tent camping, and a glamping tent. Pets are welcome. Campfires are permitted as long as there is no fire ban. Potable water and toilet are available onsite.
There's a golf course less than a mile away. We are also very close to town. In just a few minutes, you can drive to our local grocery store and pizza parlour.
We are a 10-minute drive to Pine Mountain Lake. Beautiful Pine Mountain Lake offers golfing, dining, horseback riding, water sports and an airport.
When you come to the ranch it feels like you are hundreds of miles away from civilization, but still close to everything you need. It is incredibly peaceful!
This is a great place for someone who wants to escape city life and enjoy the tranquillity of nature.
Much of the ranch is open wilderness for you to explore, and it's not uncommon to see deer, frogs, turtles, quail, turkeys, or other countless species of birds.

Wondernut Farm is an upstart, entirely off grid, working farm-stead being built from the ground up. We breed milking goats and sheep, heritage pigs, and are in the process of converting to a grade A dairy and creamery! Our location is stunning and historic, and the beauty of the wild, natural landscape is powerful, yet offers easy access to both Yosemite Valley and the San Francisco Bay area. The area features excellent road and mountain biking in the immediate vicinity, vast access to hiking and backpacking trails, a huge variety of rock climbing in the area, the best whitewater rafting in California on the Tuolumne River, with some tasty places to eat or drink coffee in the nearby town of Groveland, just 10 minutes away.
Accommodations at the farm are certainly rustic, and private but not secluded, with occasionally heavily project-exploded shared kitchen and living space, showers, and airy flush toilets.
Do be advised that animals are pooping, hammers are hammering, sometimes we need to look into a health or animal injury related issue. Sometimes there is blood in an animal birth or slaughter, and our working guardian dogs have been known to be noisy some nights. Water and electricity are both very limited (though we reuse all our water), waste must be carefully sorted into a number of different categories, and there is always evidence of ump-teen projects unfolding at once. The most difficult condition during much of the summer are nuisance flies, which are always gone at night. We have almost no mosquitoes or ticks.
Depending on the exact situation and time of year, guests may have the opportunities to snuggle with baby animals and run our herd to or from pasture, and maybe even get their hands dirty picking veggies in the garden.

Use Red Tail Ranch as an ideal launching off point for Yosemite or stay on the property and enjoy all that it has to offer.
Red Tail Ranch is a beautiful 90 acre property in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Among the oak woodlands, meadows and coniferous forest, there are numerous trails to explore the property and direct riding access to a developed mountain biking area nearby. Great birding, botanizing and wildlife watching opportunities abound.
We have RV sites with hookups, a five site drive-in campground and one walk-in campsite- all with clean, flush toilet bathrooms, hot outdoor showers, indoor camp kitchen and gathering space. Whether your pitching a tent, parking a campervan or rv, there are opportunities for everyone.
For large events, workshops or reunions, Red Tail Ranch can be rented out in its entirety- please reach out with any questions or how to do this.
New additions to the campground include hammocks, basketball, cornhole, darts and a ring toss game for all to enjoy.
We are 10 minutes from the small town of Groveland with a market and restaurants and just down the road from the put in for rafting on the Tuolumne river.
Our pricing is a little higher than other places nearby and this is due to the property's great locations, incredible beauty, and all of the amenities added for a great experience.

We had a short but incredibly sweet stay! The views were absolutely beautiful, and waking up to the lake each morning was such a peaceful experience. The small hike down to the lake was beautiful and totally worth it.
The animals on the property were honestly the best part — plus we loved getting some extra affection from the resident pup.
We even grabbed a few eggs for the road. Everything was wonderful from start to finish, and when we lost power, it was restored so quickly.
Jeremy, our Hipcamp host, was super friendly and accommodating and had great recommendations for the area, which made the trip even better.
10/10 stay — we would absolutely come back and highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, memorable getaway.

Had an awesome experience here. Was a little concerned about how their dogs would act around my 2 little dogs but it wasnt that big of a hassle. Luna was very well-mannered and kept her distance from our dogs and she was super friendly. The guardian dogs only hung out for about 20 minutes when we first got there and then we didnt see them until the next day when they came and checked on us for another 20mins in the afternoon. The view was amazing, especially at sunrise. Jeremy was super cool and even cut us up some firewood to use.

We loved the experience on Alan’s huge farm, and my kids had a great time with the dogs. At night, the sounds of all kinds of animals create a natural symphony. My girls were a little scared of the dogs at first, but they ended up having great fun with them.
You may need to lower your expectations regarding the facilities, bathrooms, and dining area, but it’s well worth it to enjoy the nature and animals.
Alan is a great host. He is in his 80s, in very good shape, and reminds us of our grandpa.

Weekend Trip to Delta Respite
I had a great time in the little cottage on Sherman Island. For being so close to the bay, it feels like you are in a different world. The cottage was cute and I could tell there had been a lot of attention paid to details. The bathtub was fabulous and after long walks out looking at birds, this was just the place I wanted to be.

Weekend Trip to The Painted Lake
We loved staying in the tree house with incredible views of the lake and nice, cosy set up for 2 people. Jeremy went above and beyond in terms of making us comfortable providing fire wood, helping us to get to the lake side for kayaking and letting us pet the cutest ever puppies that live on the farm. We ate some good food in the town of Murphys and Jeremy’s recommendations of V bistro and vino moda were both excellent. Waking up to the birds chirping and superb view of the lake, foothills clouds from the lofted bed was a real pleasure. Cannot recommend more for a nice get away!!

The space was wide open and flat with perfect ground for tent camping. It was a bit hard to find a spot in the dark so highly suggest planning to set up before dusk, but there were a few light posts present. Check in and check out was simple, fast, and requires no human interaction. Area seems very safe - even more so with the fancy high tech gate system into the ranch - and the nearby downtown area is fancy. The restroom/shower room was clean but can be a bit of a walk from the camp sites, so plan accordingly. Morning dew made it so that your socks are likely to get wet making it to the restroom!

Stayed here for my daughter’s birthday trip to Yosemite. We spent the day hiking and came back here to sleep. It was too cold for a tent so camped out in the car. Was a great campsite, very clean and quiet. We especially enjoyed all of the cows.
