The camp is less than two hours from Los Angeles and Orange County and only 2.5 miles from the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, as well as Covington Flats and Black Rock hiking and day-use areas. It is also conveniently located between the towns of Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, with access to off-road recreation areas such as Johnson Valley OHV.
The land is home to native Joshua trees, cactus, and seasonal wildflowers, with views of rocky foothills to the south and open desert valleys to the north and east. Wildlife sightings may include jackrabbits, quail, hawks, kangaroo rats, snakes, and coyotes.

I have a very private campsite that is off grid. No power. No water. Bare bones minimal just a spot to pop a tent with wind and sun protection and a view. There’s an outhouse but the camping toilet that is provided is NOT maintained. Bring your own TP, camping bags and please leave clean for the next person. There’s a large deck to lounge and watch the sun rise or set. You can pitch a tent on the deck or on several cleared spots on the ground. JT national park is a 15 minute drive and there’s a corner mart nearby. You can use the trampoline, there’s a fire pit (bring your own firewood), and please bring your own camping chairs, water, toilet paper/wipes and you must dispose of your waste. Guests must bring their own water, use a self-contained toilet system (pack out all waste), and pack out all trash. Desert conditions change rapidly — wind, heat, and cold are all possible. Four-wheel drive is recommended, though many standard vehicles and RVs have accessed the property by driving slowly and carefully. If a vehicle becomes stuck, guests are responsible for arranging their own towing.
This is unfenced private land bordering public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas. On rare occasions, someone may mistakenly pass through assuming the land is public. This has always been resolved easily by letting them know they are on private property.
Located at the base of Copper Mountain, the property offers wildlife sightings, panoramic views, and generally good cell service despite the remote feel.

Important: You must have a self-contained toilet system and pack out all waste.
A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended, but standard cars and RVs up to 30 feet can access the site by driving slowly. Low-clearance sedans can also make it with care. Please know your vehicle’s limits.
Parking is available directly on the campsite, leading up the driveway.

I have a very private campsite that is off grid. No power. No water. Bare bones minimal just a spot to pop a tent with wind and sun protection and a view. There’s an outhouse but the camping toilet that is provided is NOT maintained. Bring your own TP, camping bags and please leave clean for the next person. There’s a large deck to lounge and watch the sun rise or set. You can pitch a tent on the deck or on several cleared spots on the ground. JT national park is a 15 minute drive and there’s a corner mart nearby. You can use the trampoline, there’s a fire pit (bring your own firewood), and please bring your own camping chairs, water, toilet paper/wipes and you must dispose of your waste. Refunds not given for any mess other campers have left behind. Your fee covers a place to pop a tent with a view. Any issues you encounter I encourage you to report. 🌞🌵🏜️

Off-leash dogs are welcome. Please clean up after them so this policy can remain in place.
Guests must bring their own water, use a self-contained toilet system (pack out all waste), and pack out all trash. Desert conditions change rapidly — wind, heat, and cold are all possible. Four-wheel drive is recommended, though many standard vehicles and RVs have accessed the property by driving slowly and carefully. If a vehicle becomes stuck, guests are responsible for arranging their own towing.
This is unfenced private land bordering public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas. On rare occasions, someone may mistakenly pass through assuming the land is public. This has always been resolved easily by letting them know they are on private property.
Located at the base of Copper Mountain, the property offers wildlife sightings, panoramic views, and generally good cell service despite the remote feel.
Drive times: Hwy 62 (8 min), Downtown Joshua Tree & Farmers Market (11 min), Joshua Tree National Park entrance (19 min), Indian Cove (16 min), Pioneertown (29 min).

Guest Access:
There is only one way to access the site, so please follow the provided directions carefully. GPS may lead you to a route that is not vehicle-accessible. You will drive through a residential neighborhood before entering the forest property — please drive slowly and respectfully.

Please pack out all trash. We do not provide bins to avoid attracting animals or scattering debris in the wind.
Important: You must have a self-contained toilet system and pack out all waste.
A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended, but standard cars and RVs up to 30 feet can access the site by driving slowly. Low-clearance sedans can also make it with care. Please know your vehicle’s limits.
Parking is available directly on the campsite, leading up the driveway.
We’re animal-friendly! Pets are welcome — just be sure to clean up after them to help keep the property beautiful.

For your convenience, a wash station for dishes is available on-site, and the Joshua Tree Laundromat is located 9 miles away in downtown Joshua Tree. For campfires, it is important to keep them contained inside the designated burn barrels and never leave them unattended. In the event of high winds, campfire, and BBQ use may be suspended for safety reasons.

The place is nice for anyone who wants to experience camping without actually camping. It is well equipped with the bed and pillow being nice. There is light inside which was really helpful. However, I must note that it is a bit far from Joshua national park and there are almost no light outside camp. But for the price this place is worth it. If you are tall (above 6”) note that you might feel a little cramped in the place since your head might touch the ceiling

Great spot! We loved the place. Easy to get in and set up. Bathrooms close by. Fireplace and plenty of peace. The fence was great to have our dog and feel safe.

We enjoyed our stay, beautiful views and our campsite was really quiet during the 4 days we stayed there. The site was pretty easy to find during the day (might be difficult at night due to lack of landmarks), and it was clean when we got there. The location is great as well and it is easy to get into the park. Overall I would recommend this site, it is a great option close to Joshua Tree.

I love Wilhart Crossing! I almost feel bad sharing my best kept secret of Joshua Tree. This campsite has it all! Peaceful setting in a Joshua Tree forest that makes you feel like you're "out there", lots of privacy, fun 4x4 road trails to hike or drive on, mountain views, amazing sunrises/sunsets, and close to town! I always enjoy my stay here!

Weekend Trip to The Sunrise Sanctuary
We enjoyed the trailer as it had a great view of the stars and sunrise. Trailer was clean and as advertised; we brought sleeping bags and pillows. The only bummer was that we are light sleepers and the neighbors played music that could be heard from the trailer.
