This open camp tent area is owned by (and was/is built by) the former HGTV host of the show "Tiny House Builders". The site also houses a "wooden tent" or micro glamping pod named "The Little Lantern" (a second listing) that is fun to check out, take pix of, store gear in- the structures serve as windbreaks and shade walls
for tent campers and you can hang out on the benches near them, use their fire pits, and so on. The owner is also the author of several design and budget-build/reuse books (the bestseller "Micro Shelters" and others). Decades back this land was the site of an old RV park, so we've been in the long process of cleaning it up and removing junk from some corners of the site- but a bit still remains (its NOT pristine- still in the works). As a result you'll find some cool, weird, and unusual detritus and salvage out here (but not so much close to the camp spots)- old car parts, industrial knobs and dials- feel free to explore. Camp at your own risk though if you wander off to check this stuff out. The immediate camping area is cleared/clean. This has made it a favorite spot for junk collectors and photographers (we've found everything from old coins, to actual silver, cool rocks/geodes, and vintage car parts). This place would also make for a great spot for video or fashion shoots (which aren't allowed unless you seek separate permission from us!). Its a dirt site, but easy to get into, easy to pull into and turn around in (even with an RV), and you basically have about 5 acres all to yourself in most cases. There is one other camp site on the property (two total- the little lantern, and the van area for tenting- they are separate and spread out).
Note: As I'm not sure of the current hip camp/country standings (new vague rules), I had removed this listing/put it on "hold", but it keeps going live/not adjusting- for that reason I'm just going to keep it live and allow people to book/stay until things are figured out by hip camp (so as not to inconvenience anyone).

Off-leash dogs are welcome. Please clean up after them so this policy can remain in place.
Guests must bring their own water, use a self-contained toilet system (pack out all waste), and pack out all trash. Desert conditions change rapidly — wind, heat, and cold are all possible. Four-wheel drive is recommended, though many standard vehicles and RVs have accessed the property by driving slowly and carefully. If a vehicle becomes stuck, guests are responsible for arranging their own towing.
This is unfenced private land bordering public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas. On rare occasions, someone may mistakenly pass through assuming the land is public. This has always been resolved easily by letting them know they are on private property.
Located at the base of Copper Mountain, the property offers wildlife sightings, panoramic views, and generally good cell service despite the remote feel.

At 10,833 feet in elevation, this is the second highest peak in California. There are two ways to get to the summit. You can hike the whole thing or shave off about 6000 vertical feet by riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Either way, the summit is not to be missed.
For a real challenge try the epic Cactus to Clouds trail. It was rated as one of the hardest day hikes in the world by Backpacking Magazine. Its 21 miles take you skyward through sub-alpine forests, mountain meadows, snow-dusted crags, and gnarled granite. An alpine start is required to avoid the midday heat so be prepared and take plenty of water.

My hubby & I did a quick run to Joshua Tree to see some of the meteor shower. We were sidelined by car issues and didn’t get to the campsite until 11pm. Ralph was very accommodating & quick to respond. The site was great and exactly we expected. To top it off… The Milky Way was beautiful and we saw plenty of shooting stars in the sky! Mission accomplished!!

We absolutely loved the cabins and highly recommend them to anyone that doesn’t feel like pitching up a tent and just wants to enjoy the outdoors without all the hassle. We went in the summer and it was amazing to have AC with how hot it was in Joshua Tree. There was also bathrooms, not too far away and showers that didn’t require a coins. The queen bed was super comfy and so was the the futon couch which opens up. We fit three pretty big people in there and no one felt squished. We all hope to come back again. Also awesome price for a tiny getaway!

Yes, I am that fool who loves visiting Joshua Tree in August. Plus side is I had the campground mostly to myself! They had just switched to a new booking system so there was some confusion with my site - they were super accommodating and supportive, unlike Hipcamp's new AI support system. Note that the power and sewer ports are reversed from most other campsites (at least at my location) so you may need to use extensions or get creative, but they do all work and the bushes provided excellent privacy between me and the nonexistent neighbors! They do have quite a few lights on at night, so if you're looking for pure starwatching you may need to commute - but I was still able to see some of the meteor shower with ease.

Weekend Trip to Cozy Retreat in Joshua Tree
The place is absolutely great. The peace and quiet you get from this place is one of a kind. My fiance and I loved the seclusion we got this weekend and could’ve stayed longer.
Just remember to bring everything you need so that you don’t have to drive back into town until you have to leave!
Would highly recommend if you like the quiet and want to see the night sky lit up with all the stars!

Also the people around there were so friendly. I wonder off driving around to explore the area and got stuck in the sand. People came out and asked if I needed help and call someone who could pull me out thank god I thought I was gonna be stuck there the whole night. But other than that experience which was my fault . My partner and I had a wonderful stay at El Coyote Gulch. Serina gave clear instructions to us before we arrived at Joshua Tree. Upon unlocking our cabin, we were welcomed with very clean, comfortable boho-chic furniture. I appreciated that there were some coffee / tea items. Really helped me unwind after showering. Everything in the cabin was stunning and homey. The outdoor furniture felt purposeful, nudging us to, “watch the stars here, or sit here for the sunrise”
After getting settled, the hot tub was already warm, and on our first night we saw a plethora of stars. It was a wonderful way to relax after our long drive.
The air conditioner kept our cabin at a comfortable temperature, so sleeping wasn’t a problem when we arrived.
You truly feel that you are alone at the hill.. it’s a very quiet neighborhood. With this trip being our first time visiting a dessert, we got to appreciate the all the nature around us.
On our last day at the gulch, we woke up to the sun rising. It was so beautiful, that my partner and I had to go out to the patio and sit outside.
I felt like this stay helped me reset from my busy life. I left feeling refreshed. (:

Weekend Trip to Cozy Retreat in Joshua Tree
Great little spot in the desert! We stayed there in October with a friend and had to do our little Babymoon there this weekend. We came well prepared this time with plenty of water, food to cook on the mini inverter cooktop, and plenty of snacks as this place is nice and remote. It has all the comforts you need, (comfy bed with fluffy pillows, nice large bathroom, kitchenette w full size fridge, AC/heating, a star-watching deck) just BYO water and food! Very clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back again!

It was a peaceful experience camping here! Easy to find. While it is basic, no electricity or running water, it manages to have a lot of conviences with the outhouse, solar shower, and shelves.

Love that the site is so close to Joshua Tree and other attractions. The host was super quick to reply and very communicative. I would absolutely recommend this location.

With pets
The camping was excellent. We used a pickup bed tent, so we were not on the ground. This was good as there was quite an issue with ants everywhere. They really do need to expend more resources on controlling those ants. Restrooms were fine, better than anticipated. No issues with noise, other campers, or anything else. The covered pad was fantastic and was a great place to sit during the day. I would definitely go here again.

1 night at The Sunrise Sanctuary
Love the sanctuary. Host is responsive and considerate. Place is simple but the star gazing is amazing. Can’t wait to come back!
