The camping area resides on the North side of the Via Cordoniz access road, starting at Deadwood Dome site and the Detour N De Luz sign at top of staircase, ranging North West 3/4 of the mountain up, and 10 acres left. Please be mindful of the property markers, and respect our neighboring property lines. You are responsible for your own fitness in hiking the inclining trails and staircases. Hiking or walking sticks are highly recommended. A shared cooking area, has been cleared, providing use of the propane gas grill (campers must supply own 1 lb green canister), standard size cooler, small fire extinguisher, and carved or cut seating. Nearby, a shared pit toilet with a small 5 gallon black solar shower bag, shower toga, toilet paper, glass wash basin and pouring bottle-for minor freshening, vanity mirror and 5 gallon water jug, refilled daily- or more frequently, if needed, all located in a pallet wood stall. Two additional 3 persons sleeping tents are both folded and stored at the cooking area, for guest use. Please leave an additional $5 per night, per sleeping tent used and fold back neatly, before check out. Currently, we're home to 2 chihuahuas, 2 Australian Cattle Dogs (Lily, Alberto, Julio - aka Formerly known as The Three Chimigos and Oakley & Eddie the blue heelers), 4 pot belly pigs (Michael, Falkor, Meg, & Ayla - aka The Three Little Pigs +1), a mini horse (Phinneas), a mini donkey (Donkey), and a Buckskin Quarter Horse (Tivio), two lambs (Dolly & Reba), and 4 alpacas (Fern, Woodrow, Gandalf, & Gus). We have a lot of flat, usable space, but we also have some impressive boulders, hidden nooks and crannies to explore, and beautiful, mature trees. It's our little slice of heaven! Immerse yourself in a budding rescue ranch with pot belly pigs, mini horse, and mini donkey, or take a romp on our 5 acres with lots of hidden gems to discover, or explore the many hiking trails nearby (Mt. Woodson, Potato Chip Rock, Iron Mountain). You also have access to a relaxing hot tub/jacuzzi & brand new 300sf deck. The Airstream has one King bed with a super comfy mattress and the dinette turns in to an additional King sleeping space. If you want a true immersive, farm experience, ask about our add-on experiences including grooming the animals, helping at feed time, and cleaning their pens! There's plenty of great space to ride your bikes, and it's proven to be a hit with the kiddos! The Airstream is new to the ranch and is a work in progress, but you'll love the charm of hanging out in a very cool vintage trailer. We'll soon be adding some layers of paint, shine, and lots of love, so make sure to follow our progress in fixing the ole girl up! Our location is also unique because we are fully fenced in and have a separate turn out space for your horses (check add-ons for camping with your horse). We also have a small 1954 Camper ("Lucy") that can act as a second bedroom for more sleeping space (check for add-on). **WHEELCHAIR ACCESS: We can provide a ramp for the Airstream for accessibility, though please be aware the camper is small, likely not wide enough for a standard wheelchair, and the bathroom is also small and doesn't meet ADA standards. What a slice of paradise Bernard and Hoa share with the campers. They are friendly, generous, and accommodating. Their property is just a few blocks away from the cute town of Ramona, CA! Marinade on Main is a favorite restaurant nearby. Their property is secluded, secure, and peaceful behind a coded gate. There are three camping sites that are quite large, and several tent sites. The grounds are well maintained. We enjoyed the proximity to downtown San Diego, La Mesa, Santee, and our son’s home nearby. We were able to stay at Thompson’s Palm Farm quite a few days as there is water, electric, and septic. We will return again and again!

Had a great time. Tent was clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we would have ever needed. We made pizza, tea, and breakfast. The bathrooms were clean. My only complaint would be that the showers were cold. We tried morning and night and there was no hot water. Would come back again. My daughter loved pointing out all of the avocados on the property.

I have stayed in the communal area twice in the last 6 months with a large group of women and both times it was wonderful. Since my visit in June they have added two more flushing toilets to this area and a FANTASTIC outdoor shower with hot water. We hiked the campground and there is such a great variety of options for all kinds of camping. I would say if you are in a HUGE rig, you might be white knuckling it on the drive in, but once you are here, its simply glorious. Beautiful sunsets, fabulous views and the staff is FANTASTIC!! I can't wait to go back

Went as part of a group at the Oak Grove which was set under large oak trees and was nice and shaded. Lots of land to take walks and explore. Met the goats a few times as they roam free through the property. Bathrooms with flush toilets are clean and unique hot showers also. My sty was beginning of November. Not too cold not too hot. Enjoyed the stay!

The camping area resides on the North side of the Via Cordoniz access road, starting at Deadwood Dome site and the Detour N De Luz sign at top of staircase, ranging North West 3/4 of the mountain up, and 10 acres left. Please be mindful of the property markers, and respect our neighboring property lines. You are responsible for your own fitness in hiking the inclining trails and staircases. Hiking or walking sticks are highly recommended. A shared cooking area, has been cleared, providing use of the propane gas grill (campers must supply own 1 lb green canister), standard size cooler, small fire extinguisher, and carved or cut seating. Nearby, a shared pit toilet with a small 5 gallon black solar shower bag, shower toga, toilet paper, glass wash basin and pouring bottle-for minor freshening, vanity mirror and 5 gallon water jug, refilled daily- or more frequently, if needed, all located in a pallet wood stall. Two additional 3 persons sleeping tents are both folded and stored at the cooking area, for guest use. Please leave an additional $5 per night, per sleeping tent used and fold back neatly, before check out. About

About a half-hour drive north of San Diego, South Carlsbad State Beach offers direct access to around three miles of Pacific Ocean shoreline, making it among the more popular spots to camp in the area during the sunny summer months. The 223-site campground is set on bluffs overlooking the beach and over half of the sites have direct ocean views, perfect for taking in the sunset. Stairs lead down to the shore, and there’s ramp access for those who need it. Other facilities include a camp store, laundry facilities, a dump station, and free wifi.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve your campsite at South Carlsbad State Beach up to six months in advance on the California State Parks website or over the phone.
  2. There are only 15 hookup sites at the campground, all clustered together near the camp store. If you require a hookup site, reserve as early as possible.
  3. The maximum length for RVs in the campground is 35 feet for all sites.
  4. Sites 1-72 and 156-223 look out directly on the beach.
  5. If you’re unable to secure a site at South Carlsbad State Beach, you may have better luck with one of the private campgrounds or Hipcamps in the area.

When to go

South Carlsbad State Beach is a year-round destination, but the weather is at its most pleasant for swimming and sunbathing from July through September. Crowds begin to dissipate after the Labor Day weekend, but warm temperatures generally last well into October. This is also a good time to surf, though seasoned surfers may prefer the larger swells that come in the wintertime. Note that lifeguard towers are staffed during summer, with limited staffing in spring and fall.

Know before you go

  • There are plenty of spots to pick up supplies (including a supermarket) within a few minutes’ drive of the campground.
  • The park offers extensive accessible features, including picnic areas, parking, beach wheelchairs, and an accessible beach ramp. Campsites 16, 77, 87, 108, 119, 126, 148, 153, and 184 are accessible, as are the camp store, laundry, and the restroom and shower facilities.
  • Leashed dogs are allowed in the campground, but only service animals are permitted on the beach.
  • Rip currents are common in this part of the coast. If you get caught in one, make sure to swim parallel to the shoreline.

Stay on the cliff side if you can away from the highway noise, and be sure to bring cover as there is no shade. Campground books out well in advance, don't bother driving up. Campground is huge, has a camp store in the busy season, fire rings, running water, toilets, coin showers, and beautiful views.

The sunsets are gorgeous!! Bring a jacket for the evening. And try to get a site along the bluff! The views from those are incredible. They have fire pits as well. They also have stairways to walk right down to the sand and ocean. It feels surreal and such a refreshing experience!

Have camped here many times. Very quiet a lot of the year and at night. Not much car noise or train noise compared to San Elijo - Cardiff a few miles south. Spaces are big. They have a few hookups that were added a few years ago. Camp Store is open during warmer months. Grocery and few restaurants are about 1/2 mile away and new Cape Rey resort is now across the street which is actually quite nice. Beach is in need of sand a lot of the year. Popular with surfers. Fairly quiet as there isn't a lot of parking outside the campground so most people on the beach are staying at the campground. Locals go to the southern and northern ends. Great place to camp....clean restrooms and showers. Tough to get spots most of the year
