What a lovely spot! There are so many trails and multiple gorgeous views. The individual spaces were very large and varied from shaded to sunny, from remove, to nearer to others. Having the goats run around freely was just so much fun to watch. Every employee we encountered was helpful and really friendly. The bathrooms were always clean and well stocked. I never used the showers, but they looked clean and private enough for being outside. I can't wait to go back. If there was on less than perfect thing to mention, it was that the shop had no ice. It was advertised that they sell ice. Because it was Sunday afternoon, maybe they sold out as people so many people were leaving/checking out. Other than that, absolutely glorious!!

Wonderful property. Camped with a group of 7 women under the old oak tree. Benjamin was a fabulous host and we enjoyed the goats and llama. We will be back with more Butterfly Tribe—women who camp.

I can't rave enough about this place. It was breathtakingly beautiful. We stayed at the Oak community camp and it was amazing, there were goats and a lama that wander around and we also saw a quail with her chicks. The staff went above and beyond for us and bathrooms are spotless, it was so nice to have a hot shower available. We will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Saddle Up Camp

Loved this spot. So cool to be around all the horses. It is a working farm so expect there to be animals and noises, but I thought that’s what made this stay unique. The landscape is beautiful as well and the host is super friendly and easy to talk to! Definitely would go back!

I had a wonderful stay at the casita—it’s a super cool, spacious, and bright cabin with tons of charm and privacy. The twinkling lights, fire pit, hammocks, shaded seating areas, and even a disco ball made the outdoor space feel magical. The professional community kitchen was fully stocked with everything I needed, and the plumbing, sinks, and unique outdoor shower were clean and convenient. The large property is incredibly dog-friendly, and the host was warm and welcoming. The only downsides were the midday heat, which made it tough to stay cool, and a few too many flies and ants—but overall, it was a truly special and memorable stay!

We had a fantastic time here! The campsites offer a wonderful sense of privacy, surrounded by beautiful scenery. The newly renovated restrooms are truly exceptional – a very pleasant surprise! The entire campground has a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for a getaway. We did notice there was no hot water in the shower, which was okay for us given the hot weather, but we were curious if this was a temporary issue. Aside from that small detail, everything else was perfect. A truly great place to stay!

Very underrated lakeshore campsite! Has everything you need for several days of camping with a private dock to fish from and hold your jetski or kayak overnight. Highly recommend. Very level ground and although the lake water isn’t the cleanest it was a great experience.

Bailes Farm

One of the last remaining undeveloped parts of Southern California, De Luz Heights is located adjacent to the Cleveland National Forest, and the Santa Margarita River (just a few miles from the campsite). On my 60 acres, there are no major roads going through or next to the property. My land is 13 miles from the Pacific ocean and enjoys a relatively mild yearly climate. Giant boulders provide topographical relief and offer platforms from which to enjoy the view of the nearby Santa Margarita Mountains. The valley views are filled with olive and avocado groves, vineyards, and horse ranches. The Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base is nearby, so you might hear some artillery in the distance on some occasions. The campsite embraces all the comforts of "glamping": a hot shower, composting toilet, beds with sheets provided, gas grill with a stovetop, pots and pans, kitchenware, a sink, picnic table, shaded deck, sofa, lounge chairs, and propane fire pit. The basics are provided: toilet paper, paper towels, purified drinking water, towels, sheets, cooking oil, etc. Campers need to bring their own blankets. I've created a network of hiking trails for especially fit hikers looking for a more rigorous hike than the nearby Santa Margarita River Trail. My trails lead through creek beds, over boulders, through rocky crags, with views of the Pacific ocean on a clear day. Hikers on my trails need to wear proper hiking boots with good traction. Sections of my trails will require bouldering with hands and feet. Expect to have fatigued quadriceps, some scrapes, and a sweaty hat brim. The campsite is accessible with a two-wheel drive vehicle; I drive a Kia Forte out there regularly. However, some tips when driving a two-wheel drive car: when going uphill on a dirt road, try to keep some momentum of about 12-15 MPH. If you stop and try to start again, your tires will spin out. If that happens, just reverse down the hill, and try it again with more momentum.

The Base Camp first name was Palamar Gardens, Then Oak Knoll Camp and is now being rebranded back to its Original Name Base Camp Palamar. The property is rustic, a little dusty and very old school. About

Midway between Los Angeles and San Diego in Orange County, the mile-long San Clemente State Beach is a popular spot for snorkeling, swimming, water sports, and camping. The San Clemente State Beach Campground has 141 sites split into two sections, one with RV sites with full hookups and another offering tent sites with fire pits, shade ramadas, and picnic tables. Other campground features include flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. There's also a day-use area with picnic areas along with a couple of group camps.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance on the California State Parks website or over the phone.
Campgrounds tend to fill up fast, particularly on weekends and during the summer, so it's wise to book as early as possible.
Each of the two group campsites can accommodate up to 50 campers.
The maximum permitted length for motorhomes and trailers at the RV campground is 30 feet.
If you can’t secure a campsite at San Clemente State Beach, you may have better luck at San Onofre State Beach just a few minutes' drive down the coast.

When to go

While San Clemente State Beach is a year-round destination, summers are the best time to visit when temperatures are hot and days are long, and there are plenty of lifeguards on duty. However, this season is also the most crowded, and the campground is highly likely to be at full capacity, so if you want a quieter experience, consider the autumn shoulder season. Whale-watching season runs from winter until early spring.

Know before you go

You can pick up groceries and supplies in the city of San Clemente, just inland from the beach.
The entrance to San Clemente State Beach is locked from 10pm to 6am. If you need to check in during this time, make prior arrangements.
Dogs are allowed at the campground, but not on trails or on the beach.
San Clemente State Beach offers accessible tent sites and RV sites, accessible restrooms and showers, and accessible parking. The Multi-Use Access Trail and Butterfly Trail are also accessible, as is the visitor center. Beach wheelchairs are available to borrow on request.

Camping on the Bluffs is parking next to the beach, on the road. If you get away from the beach, the campground is surrounded by hills and trees with a walk to the beach.

Camping here is more for great beach access, not a great camping experience. Tons of campsites with plenty of inexperienced/unaware/careless campers. Lots of families, animals, and RVs. Good for family camping... not good for 'real' camping.

Be sure and bring ear plugs, the Amtrak blast through about 3am and is extremely loud, outdoor showers, fairly clean bathrooms. All around a good experience.
