Gorgeous Camping and Views
I just spent the best weekend of my entire year at The Overlook. Our group of 15 fully vaccinated friends had our first big reunion post-quarantine and it was absolutely joyful to be in such a beautiful place together at last. The views are spectacular and the amenities make it a step above traditional camping. We brought a power strip and cooked almost everything using electricity, we did use the BBQ provided by Caleb the camp host for a couple things, but it was so nice to be able to plug in. The power is also located alongside the new bar so there was a lot of surface area for cooking. The only things I would give a heads up about, which were totally workable are - the road, the wind, and the lack of potable water. The road - take it slow and in a low gear, find your lines, and try to drive it in the daylight if you can. It is unpaved and steep, so some dirt hydroplaning is inevitable. But we had a Prius make it up at night, so worst case it is doable, just practice caution. The wind - because you're so high up wind is probably inevitable and we definitely had some Saturday late afternoon through evening. The thing that's tricky is that the earth is very hard and rocky so its tough to get your tent stakes in. We were glad we brought some heavy duty stakes and a hammer. The water - we started to worry we hadn't brought enough drinking water but in the end we were totally fine. The provided water isn't potable so just make sure you have plenty to drink and cook with. Other than that, sit back, relax and enjoy yourself in a spectacular landscape with the people you love!
