The Shabby Shanty is the perfect spot for a quiet, relaxing camping weekend. It's just about 20 minutes drive into Joshua tree with views for miles. There's potable water, an area for cooking, outdoor toilet and tiny shower. It's just perfect for the simple camper!

Great campsite!! Having a shower and stove and private toilet was really awesome. Angel was so sweet and hospitable and made us feel very welcomed. Very close to the park and town. Would recommend.

Angela was super nice. The site was quiet and peaceful. I watched the sunrise over the mountains while enjoying a cup of coffee. Get the meal she offers it was so good. I had the baked potato with mine. The outdoor shower was a cool experience.

This was the perfect place for my first time tent camping. Angela greeted us when we arrived and showed us around. She was friendly and helpful. It was a little bit windy while we were setting up, but when we came back later that evening, we had a perfectly clear, still evening. It was quiet and secluded and private. Wonderful experience!

Angela’s place was a welcomed stop. Wonderful view in all directions, thoughtful toilet and shower structures she’s created from repurposed materials, and warm, helpful local knowledge. No problem parking our T@b trailer on site. And say YES to her dinner option! Her smoked chicken and sides were delicious. We took leftovers for a second night. Thanks Angela!

We showed up to a situation where we had to decide whether to set up camp in 20+ mile per hour winds. We ended up heading into the park and snagged a $15 first-come-first serve site that was just amazing...and....no wind! When pressed, Angela revealed that her property is in fact in a geologic 'wind tunnel' (her term) and that instead of disclosing this on the site she provides tires buried in the sand so that people can fasten-down their tents (hence the pictures of the buried tires on the site). If you like camping in the wind for $75/night, Angela has a great spot for you.....To her credit, however, she did refund us which was well-appreciated.

We wanted to camp in a place that felt removed from town and other people. Angela's property delivered. Everything in previous reviews about how great Angela is, the convenient toilet and shower are right on. I was a little hesitant to stay on someone's property and was worried about privacy and potentially having neighbors nearby. So I will address that in my review. The closest neighbor was about half mile away and I could not even see the house from the property. I saw Angela once during our three-night stay, when she showed me around and gave me instructions on how to use the shower. So, the campsite was very private and felt far away from everyone else, which is what I wanted. (to be clear Angela is very pleasant and a really interesting person, and is also very responsive to questions, advice and needs via the Hipcamp app). Other than a once-in-a-while car on the road, it is quiet. The view of the night sky is excellent. And, town is about 10-15 minutes away.

Angela is so kind and helpful. She helped us put up our tent and buried tires so it wouldn’t blow away. She showed us around her land and told us about the gem stone show that was happening up the street! We had a great time and we will be back.

Staying on Angela’s land for the night was the perfect way to spend the weekend! The view was amazing and the stars alone make the trip out to JT worth it. I can’t say enough good things about Angela — excellent and thoughtful host, and funny to boot. We got in late at night and she was still there to greet us and show us around. It’s a great spot, beautiful view of both desert and faraway town lights at night. Feels peaceful and private, but with a few splashy amenities and a camp host nearby. Get the optional dinner if you can, you won’t regret it! I would definitely come back, it’s a special spot.

Very cool set up with a lovely host! The kitchen set up protected from the winds well and includes a cob oven (charcoal) and a propane grill. Angela even went above and beyond tying down my tent (and putting bricks inside) when winds kicked up on our ice run. Very private and to clarify others reviews, only one site (no other campers anywhere within eye shot).

The host is very nice and helpful. We got our car stuck in the soft sand and she asked her friend to help us get it out. We really appreciate it.
We did tent camping. I wish the wind was lighter in the night and the strong wind made our tent sound noisy overnight. But for any RV camper, it would be perfect place.

Unfortunately, our 2-WD Campervan got stuck easily in the sand when arrived. We called AAA to pull out our van. As a result, we decided not to stay there because we were afraid to get stuck again in the sand. If you don’t want to get stuck in the dessert, 4-WD is “must have” you will have a better experience.

Secluded space that is not too far off the beaten path. We had a blast camping here. Angela was more than helpful and went out of her way to make us comfortable. We got the chicken dinner which exceeded expectations, and fed us for two days. Our first night was super windy and our host put in a wind guard the next day to help our tent. The sand roads are a bit tough but this is in a place that most cars can get to. Close to sculpture gardens and right between 29 Palms and J Tree it was a great resting spot. Having running water, shower, and outhouse made it easy to camp with the kids. Our dogs also had a blast on the land. Highly recommend!!

Angela was such an amazing host. We needed a weekend away from the noise and to reground ourselves and her place was the most perfect place to do so! She cooked for us Saturday evening and it was so delicious, even had extra that the boys snacked on and even brought some home! Angela's spot is beautiful and just far enough from everything to feel wild. She was a great host, including making a delicious meal and showing me around all the off-grid features on the property (shower works great!). The spot is a bit of a tight squeeze and not very level, just something to be aware of but wasn't an issue for me. It's definitely possible to get stuck in the sand and I would recommend 4wd as well as carefully reading all of the instructions!!

We had a great experience camping on Angela’s land! She was very communicative and friendly over text and left extremely clear instructions. We had no problems finding the site. We are runners and spent most of our weekend sweating and exploring jtree and surrounding areas by foot so the hammock and shower that Angela had set up were amazing. I would definitely recommend getting the dinner. It was a whole smoked chicken and 2 hearty sides and a salad! Everything was delicious and you can tell Angela loves to cook and put so much care into making it. It was amazing to not worry about making dinner, and there were so many leftovers that we had lunch the next day (we were 2 people)! I would definitely stay on Angela’s land again if we make it back to the area.

This campsite was a good distance from the Joshua tree entrance and close to the town. We had a pull behind trailer and had no problems getting to the property. Be careful not to drive into deep sand. Angel was very accommodating and helpful. There is a great space to BBQ and relax in the hammock. We had a fire at night and the stars were incredible. The bathroom and shower are both great and clean amenities. Overall this is a great spot to set up camp and enjoy the incredible desert skies while also having comfortable glamping amenities

Angela was very responsive, detailed, and thorough. She made my stay as a solo female camper very safe and pleasurable! I would happily recommend her place to anyone looking for a quiet place to camp. The place has a hot shower, clean pit toilet, great propane grill, charcoal grill, fire pit, picnic table, and hammock. There is limited shade though, so be prepared.
Do note that I stayed on a Friday night, and I could hear the neighbors in the distance having a party (some music) but it wasn't loud enough to disturb my sleeping (I'm a heavy sleeper).

Lovely place to camping plus Angela is very kind and nice, she has hot shower, toilet, wonderful kitchen, fireplace.
Me and my husband planned to stay there 3 nights but our car has problems (Angela also tried to help us) so we have to return earlier than we planned, surprisingly next day we have got refund from Angela with her lovely messages.
