Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park boast hundreds of miles of hiking trails, and non-motorized mountain bikes are permitted on the trails in Tucson Mountain Park. Let us be your base camp for desert exploration whether it's hiking, riding, birdwatching, and learning. Come to Camp Saguaro and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the desert. Our friendly hosts can help you plan a great day, some of them even have their Certified Tourism Amabssador credentials. Please note: We are tobacco-free, medicinal herbs are legal and ok as long as children are not around. What to expect: We are in a rural neighborhood where most parcels are 1-3 acres, we have seven acres. It's quiet around here but along with the natural sounds of the desert like yipping coyotes, and woodpeckers pecking, you may hear a horse, dog, or chicken. While we are on the outskirts of Tucson, we are not completely remote. We have carved our sites out of the natural layout of the desert. There are many kinds of cactus in our area in addition to the magnificent Saguaro, and uneven areas when walking. We keep it as natural as possible. We have a small "Mercantile" on property. This is our office, but we also have items you may have forgotten, and souvenirs made by local artists. Also available is firewood, and ice is for sale for your convenience. We have a small Laundry Shack (two washers, two dryers) 2.00 wash/2.00 dry. You'll need cash for these things, we do not take any other form of payment at this time. Camp Saguaro is tobacco-free. Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects. You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk. You can choose where you prefer to camp. An extra vehicle is OK as long as it's part of your one campsite. 2 groups with 2 camp vehicles is 2 campsites. I also have the Pool House, an indoor option with a power outlet, and it's close to the pool and restroom area. You can set up your bed or rent a full size bed which I will set up for you. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. During a snowy period, access may require either cross country skiing, snowshoeing or snowmobiling to the property from the main highway (approx 2.1 miles). If you get stuck on the road it will be your own responsibility. Please check with the owner a couple days prior to your visit to check on road conditions during the winter! Pets must be well behaved and cleaned up after, including excessive animal hair. Leash laws apply to Coconino National Forest. Please do not book the Glamper Cabin if you plan to bring a pet which is known to be aggressive or unpredictable in nature, including breeds or mixed breeds such as pitbulls, rottweilers, bullmastiff and American Bulldog. This was my first time using HipCamp and boy, does Karla set the bar high. The property speaks for itself, attention to detail everywhere, very clean property and very well organized and thought out. Treated us with a community fire pit, got to make some new camp friends along the way. Restroom was super convenient and clean, the tent site allowed us to have a covered gazebo over us for added warmth and comfort. Overall a 5-star experience and wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Oh, and Reba the donkey is super friendly and loves ear scritches in the morning 😁

What a wonderful campground! It was extremely clean. Absolutely beautiful location and so conveniently located near the national park! Communication was excellent. The hosts were so friendly and kind and hospitable. Our children had a wonderful time playing and doing a scavenger hunt! The bathrooms were very well-maintained as was the laundry room. We will definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone!

The common area is a great spot to hang out, watch a movie, and meet fellow travelers. The general area has some great food trucks and a fun neighborhood dive bar right across the street. Would 100% recommend again. My husband and I stayed here for one night and it was such a relaxing and wonderful stay. The camp host was very friendly and informative. It was only a 7 min drive from Saguaro National Park visitor center. Hopefully I get to stay here again! The bathrooms and shower are very clean, and the shower was super-hot, and we were both able to take a much-needed shower! Adobe was very clean and smelled really nicely like Sage. We were able to cook with our camp supplies and our air mattress fit perfectly on the bed. I slept really well and was very warm in the Adobe. You can purchase supplies needed, do laundry, and do your dishes with hot water. Definitely worth the money especially if you are on a long road trip worth the stay!

We were only there for a night, but we really enjoyed sleeping next to the Saguaro and other cactus. The birds all over the cacti in the morning were also a real treat. The campsite was spacious and set up nicely. The showers and restrooms were set up nicely, as was the shared entertainment area. Communication before our visit was also very helpful.

We had a lovely stay at Gary and Daren’s! The views were lovely, and there were lots of little nature walks around the area which were peaceful and quaint. The facilities were great! Hot showers, and a nice little common room with cooking facilities, water, towels, dishes, coffee, etc. Gary was very welcoming and accommodating. There’s lots of attention to detail and love invested in this space! We would definitely stay here again!

Where to go

​Northern Arizona

While northern Arizona's best-known attraction is the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, there’s plenty more to see and do, from visiting Lake Powell on the Colorado River to backcountry tent camping among the ponderosa pines in the Coconino National Forest, Prescott National Forest, and Kaibab National Forest. Western Arizona

Southern Arizona
