Weekend Trip to The Branch River Retreat

Peaceful spot alongside the river, we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to visit again. Pros: welcoming host, private and peaceful campsite, easy river access for a SUP or fishing or a rinse, safe from any major hazards for our toddler. Cons: toilet far away from site, lots of mosquitos early morning and evening, river is very dark so was a bit off putting to swim in but still refreshing, tent site on a bit of an incline which would be ideal to flatten further.

Loved camping here! It was peaceful and private. The river was beautiful. We camped near site #3. Debora met us at the gate to help us find our site as it was dark when we arrived. If you are by the river make sure to bring some mosquito repellent. We didn't see any dolphins this time but saw lots of other wildlife like crabs, possums, and kangaroos.

I didn’t want to leave a review as I want this place to stay secret it is that good but it is too good not to share. I fell in love with this place it is such a nice campground with lots of space between sites and heaps of space for the dogs to run around. The river was beautiful and the composting toilet is a very nice touch. The whole area was very clean. There are also horses that are very friendly and would come up to the campsite for a scratch, and the alpacas were very cute but one was a bit protective of its mate and not a fan of dogs - which is totally fine you just need to be able to control your dogs to keep away (which you should be doing anyway so they don’t disturb the farm animals). Tammie and Damien were very helpful with directions and even choosing a better site for us and our dogs as we were coming in late from Sydney. Another note - you definitely need 4wd to access the sites I thought it might have been an over exaggeration and we nearly took our awd instead but luckily we took our 4wd Ute instead haha. 10/10 camp ground can’t wait for my next visit 💓

Great hosts. Lovely, quiet spot not far from Sydney but feels like you’re well and truly away from the daily grind. The friendly dogs made our weekend as did Steve the highland bull. Will be back.

Me and my friends went camping for the first time and it was truly an amazing experience. The beautiful waterside view with the jetty and the late night view of the stars is amazing. Debora really went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had a good time. Could not recommend more!

Damien and Tammie were wonderful hosts! They greeted us as we drove into the property providing instructions on how to enter the campsite. The hill side site has spectacular views of the valley. The perfect spot to watch both sunrise and sunsets. The horse and sheep was a delightful surprise and kept us company through out our stay! We will definitely be back!

Best camping spot I have been to. The hosts are super attentive and quick to respond to messages. The camp sit itself is super clean and on a really nice grass patch right next to the river. It was very peaceful and you have really great privacy especially if you go to “the rapids” site. The horses were a really nice addition and super friendly, they come right up to you to say hi! I recommend getting a loaf of home made bread from Tammie, it was AMAZING! The road leading to the river is pretty rough so a proper 4x4 is a must if you choose to visit.

This is a beautiful property along the river. Definitely a 4wd experience on the way in/out but totally worth it. Camp sites are probably closer to each other than I thought based on other reviews. In saying that, the hosts were extremely friendly & I’m sure if I’d asked if there were other campers close by & could I move to be more secluded, they absolutely would’ve accommodated me where they could - so that one is on me. The sites along the river are pretty flat & the horses/alpacas wandered by regularly. The river was at a level that my dogs could go for a paddle without any worry.

1 night at Kallarroo Farm, nr Nimmitabel

Kallarroo is a beautiful and nature integrated experience. From the drive down to the paddock where you move past rolling hills full of horses, birds and kangaroos to the open pasture and cattle of the field beyond the river, the entire experience is incredible. The site itself is gorgeous and secluded and is exactly as advertised on Hipcamps - they’ve actually been quite modest in their description! Bea was a magnificent host who provided detailed and clear instruction to make the process as seamless as possible. We loved our stay at Kallarroo and would definitely come back. I couldn’t recommend this stay highly enough!

Watton Airstrip is a great place to camp. We stayed 4 nights at Hogs Heaven and really enjoyed our time. Damo is a great host. Super friendly, helpful and informative. Sadly Tammie wasn’t there when we were so I guess that means we will just have to come back to try her delicious sounding breads 😊 We absolutely loved the horses and alpacas and the river was delightful to cool off in. The camping area is so well maintained and clean and the facilities available in the camp kitchen look fantastic. We highly recommend and will definitely be back

Featuring an amazing rustic cabin, nine riverside campsites, along with paddock and bush sites, all 4WD accessible and two equally stunning 2WD accessible sites. You’ll share our spaces with kangaroos, wallabies, emus, echidnas, deer, platypus and more. Enjoy some optional extras, including Tammie's home made bread, farm fresh, free range eggs, or one of our range of grazing platters, home made jams or hot chocolate kits. Or pamper yourself with a Crystal reiki session, or tarot reading. The 2WD accessible sites feature spectacular views to the right, towards Mt Panorama and Mt Horrible and towards Mt Canobolas to the left. Lie back in your swag at night and let the star struck, velvety sky envelope you, or make a booking at the nearby Bathurst Observatory to see the stars up close. Each campsite offers its own unique features for you to enjoy and a hand crafted pit toilet is accessible to those camped along the river bank. The property is a short drive to Dharawal National Park, and a great 'home base' while you explore everything the area has to offer. There are fire pits provided for campfires, given there are no fire bans or restrictions in place. If you would like to be further away you can camp near our dam which is becoming more popular as of late .If you would like to be totally tucked away in the bush we also have spots totally surrounded by bush, please let us know when booking. Find us on a large property on the banks of the Timbarra River, located 20 km / 30 min south of Drake Village (an old gold mining community). We share the property with lots of wildlife, and with our resident cows. There is currently only one camping site accessible by car (the River Block), but if you're up for a trek we can point you to the back hills where you'll find a whole other world. Your hosts live further back on the property so you can find us if you need help. Please note there is no mobile reception, so it is a great way to get away from it all. There are no bins here... please remove all your rubbish on departure. Campfires are welcome (when no fire ban). You can bring your own firewood, or gather what fallen timber you can find. There is currently no toilet, shower or drinking water so please bring your supplies. Pets possible on request. We love having furry friends visiting, but we also love our local wildlife and our lawnmower cows, and we like to keep their camper experience stress-free too.

The Branch River Retreat

Our property is private and we ask you to contact us first to ensure we can provide the facilities suitable for you. sealed roads. The River Retreat sits beside a wide river, with dams and other scattered paddock sites among trees and dams. It best suits off-road independent hybrid caravaners and tent dwellers. The river is lined with mangroves and branches off the Karuah River (mosquitoes during wet periods feed the leaping fish). Birdlife includes: Wedge-tailed and sea eagles, hawks, Tawny Frogmouths, water waders, occasional Jabiroos, pelicans and swans. Be woken by Magpies and Kookaburras, colourful parrots and smaller shyer birds. You'll see kangaroos, wallabies, and maybe Echidnas. You may espy a Koala along the foreshore. For this reason, while we accept dogs, they must be on a leash (if not just for their own safety). The boat ramp allows access for kayaks/canoes. Or just sit on a camper chair and dangle your feet in the water while watching the mud crabs go about their social business. Riverside sites are not powered and do not have water or sewerage. They are situated within 10m to 25m of each other and if this is too close, we recommend booking two sites. Generally, we prefer campers to be 100% self-contained, with their own toilet. A toilet is however accessible, but some 300m to 400m distance from the dams and rivers. There is cold potable running water here for topping up. Sealed roads to the front gate to access the property from north and south. All-weather gravel road access is available, although paddock sites can only be accessed by vehicle during dry periods. Weather willing, we can provide more secluded sites by some lovely dams, (please check conditions if you have concerns). Local groceries can be sourced from Karuah and Stroud. Activities include: - Bird/nature watching - Paddling/canoeing - Fishing - Bike riding (small motor vessels only by arrangement) - Surface type: grass or paddock leveled areas and others with slight slopes and accessed with 4WD (of course subject to weather). - Generally fair to good Mobile phone access. - BYO or Preorder firewood for applicable sites out of fire season. - No electrical connections unless by arrangement (for longer term Hipcampers) - We treat our own sewerage. - No generators please.

Elevated property (1270m) with the Campers Shed overlooking the start of the Hunter River. Seventeen km from the Gundy turnoff on Tomalla Rd/Hunter Rd heading up the mountain to Tomalla. The Campers Shed Sleeps 6 people, one sofa bed and 4 singles with matresses (bring your own bed material, sleeping bags , there is a kitchenette, BBQ (bring own gas and utensils) and flushing toilet. There is no drinking water, so please bring your own. No power, no shower (you can wash in river stream). Stay warm with a pot belly wood heater inside, or sit and keep warm with a bon fire outside, overlooking nature. The property is located approx 2km from Devils Arc, and there is a waterfall nearby.
