You’ll share our spaces with kangaroos, wallabies, emus, echidnas, deer, platypus and more. Enjoy some optional extras, including Tammie's home made bread, farm fresh, free range eggs, or one of our range of grazing platters, home made jams or hot chocolate kits. Or pamper yourself with a Crystal reiki session, or tarot reading. The 2WD accessible sites feature spectacular views to the right, towards Mt Panorama and Mt Horrible and towards Mt Canobolas to the left. Lie back in your swag at night and let the star struck, velvety sky envelope you, or make a booking at the nearby Bathurst Observatory to see the stars up close. Each campsite offers its own unique features for you to enjoy and a hand crafted pit toilet is accessible to those camped along the river bank. Better still, book into a pub crawl with Damo so you can lie back and enjoy the ride. There are plenty of opportunities for 4WDing and bushwalking in the local area. If you’re not into actual camping in tent or trailer form, come spend some time in our insulated rustic cabin that has been lovingly built by Damo. Featuring an open floor plan with a queen bed, a bunk bed and two singles, this space can accomodate up to 6 people. Sheets are provided but guests will need to provide their own blankets and pillows. Heating and cooking are facilitated by a cast iron wood fire, featuring two hot plates and an oven space and there is a cold water sink for drinking water and dishes. Some wood will be provided for your stay. Once this is gone, you may purchase extra. A small fridge will facilitate some food and drink storage but you may need to bring a portable fridge/esky as well. A gas powered shower can be hired if required. A new long drop is under construction closer to the cabin but for the moment, feel free to use the communal long drop near the camp kitchen. A rechargeable lantern is supplied for you to take with you. The cabin is solar powered, with usb points for phone charging, but no other power points. There is also an outdoor fire pit, and outdoor setting if you’d prefer to cook outside, or simply sit around it enjoying the ambience of being in nature. Wood for the fire pit will need to be brought in, or feel free to collect fallen wood from around the property. Please DO NOT cut down or deface any standing trees. A fantastic location for a girls or boys weekend, somewhere for the elders or non camping family members to stay, or for a weekend away with the family camping without actual camping!

What an amazing spot. Relaxed and peaceful. Good directions and in fact we didn’t even meet the managers which, no offense was great. Everything we needed was there and the river is clean and healthy with platypus seen daily. We will be back.

We had such a great stay at Watton! We booked Drovers run which was further back from the river (but not too far) and it was perfect as it gave us the privacy and a huge spot for our dog to run around. The campsite itself was beautiful, surrounded with farm animals, huge space and the river was the icing on the cake! Damien, the host was absolutely amazing! He gave us itinerary for the perfect day trip, which was the highlight of our stay. He also managed to save us by lending us his leads when our tent deflated..,and the homemade bread that Tammie made was soo good. We sure will come back again. Thank you so much!

Damien and Tammie’s property was lovely! Despite going on a public holiday weekend, the sites were very spread out and large giving us our own area which was great! River is great, be aware you will most likely need to pull your kayak through certain spots due to shallow water/rocks. But it’s lovely and clean, great place to take a dip! Both hosts were very lovely and we loved our stay on their property! Thanks legends!

Camping at Watton Airfield was so perfect we extended twice and stayed 8 nights. It was so peaceful… the gorgeous river, grass mowed like a park, stars, horses, alpacas, platypus. Tammy and Damien were so helpful and provided amazing bread and eggs. We had the valley to ourselves most of the time and would definitely return.

Hog Heaven 4WD Only
Amazing property beautifully maintained and nestled amongst trees. We had the best camping experience we’ve had so far at this property. Completely blown away by the whole experience. Tammie and Damien were amazing, Tammie’s homemade loaf made the trip that much better. We spent our two nights here exploring the river and watching platypus play in the mornings next to our campsite. We were greeted by the beautifully natured horses and pony as they made their lap of the beautiful property they live on. We saw plenty of kangaroos coming down the hill to get to our camp spot at Hog Heaven. The 4wd down to the camps is super fun and a little challenging which we enjoyed. Amazing amazing stay cannot recommend enough and cannot wait to be back very soon :) thank you so much Tammie and Damien for your kindness and care during our stay. Your property goes above and beyond expectations.

Had the pleasure staying Damien and Tammies hipcamp called Watton Airstrip (camp site - the nook) Damien is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to his land and provided some great tips to tackle the drive down. 4WD low gear and youll be passing through with no issues. The camp itself is beautifully set by the Macquarie River, get your tent up and listen to the local fauna. An added surprise are the horses and alpacas who come over and visit your camp. On top of this great location Damien and Tammie provide a very large range of pre purchase items (meats, platters and best of all Tammies delicious fresh baked bread - thanks Tammie it was yummy!) We absolutely loved the location , of green grass horses and even saw a platypus . Damien was an amazing host we didn’t get to meet Tammie but I’m sure she is as lovely as Damien. Just a very , very challenging steep rutted dirt road to get to the little slice of paradise . My wife preferred to get out and walk as it was our first trip with our new van . All good and it was a great workout for both car and van . Well worth the challenge ! We hope to return one day .

When I booked to stay I also ordered a fresh loaf of home made bread, Tammie met me at the front door on our arrival with the freshly baked hot loaf of bread, straight from the oven. Definitely need a 4WD to get down to the river over the rocky road. Well worth the drive. We loved camping at the Rivers Edge for a couple of days. Very spacious with green grass, the sound of running water, no phone or wi-fi made it very relaxing for us. Would definitely camp there again in any of the camp spots and will recommend to family and friends.

This was our first time with our camper trailer and this place was amazing. The hosts were even better. We stayed at the deep spot. Great swim spot in the river right at your site. A nice distance from your closest neighbours. Horses walk by. One in particular demands a bit of attention so you better give him a neck rub. To the owners. Lovely people. Make sure you chat with Damien he has a great day trip you can do if you’re into driving along a river. Which clearly if you’re going to stay here you are. At the end of that is the coolest little town with an awesome pub you can’t not pop in for a bev. Yeah I sound pretty positive about all this so I better drop a negative. There is a possum that is quite interested in what you may leave out for him. He is a fan of cereal. We had an awesome time and will tell everyone I know to make this a stop if heading around the Bathurst area. Oh yeah and only 20 minutes into Bathurst that has a lot to offer. Couldn’t go wrong with this place absolutely loved it. Thanks heaps Damien and Tammie

The Beach 4WD Only
Absolutely beautiful camp site by the river, at night we saw possums and turtles in the river. During the day we were visited by friendly horses. Our dog had the best time being off lead. We'll definitely be coming back!

Rivers Edge 4WD Only
We loved our time camping at the rivers edge site. It was so peaceful. The horses wandering quietly through were beautiful and calm. Our doggos also had a lovely time, as the other campers we far enough away for them to have some off leash time without worrying anyone else. Seriously beautiful spot, would loved to have been able to stay longer.

Firstly, do not use the in app link to maps, you'll end up on the wrong side of the river. Secondly, they aren't kidding when they say 4wd access only. Finally, although we didn't meet Tammie & Damien in person, the contact we had was so friendly and easy going. This was our first hipcamp so I probably overthought a lot of it but always felt reassured and welcomed. The campgrounds were amazing. Even if the sites were full they're still spread out enough that you wouldn't be bothered. The amenities are sufficient if you don't mind a drop toilet and not too far from the camps. We woke up to horses and alpacas roaming around our camp, and with the sound of the river running in the background, it was magical. We have certainly all gone home feeling incredibly relaxed after this weekend. Thanks again, Tammie & Damien

I stayed one night at Watton Airstrips, and it was a beautiful place. Damien and Tammie were wonderful hosts. I received a very warm welcome as soon as I arrived. From the reception house, drive about 10 minutes along the track, pass two gates, and go over the hill. Once you head down, you’ll see The Heavens (my opinion) It is one of the best campsites I have visited on Hipcamp. The grass is green, there is plenty of wildlife, and the view is lovely. The land is huge and also perfect for group camping. I also bought a dozen duck eggs, but Tammie kindly gave me around 15 eggs ☺️. I walked around the campsite and was very lucky — near the end of the camp (I think it’s called The Rapids) I saw a family of deer. Highly recommended!

We loved our stay at Watton air strip. We stayed at the deep spot and it was paradise! So quiet and beautiful right by the water. Friendly farm animals were a hit with the kids. The directions were clear and easy. Tammy is lovely and the fresh sour dough and eggs were amazing. We will definitely be back!

Fabulous couple of days by the river at Deep Spot campsite. River was running, the sound of water, the occassional fish jumping, horses coming to say hello, wildlife appearing always made for something to watch. Will be back to try some of the other campsite.
