The Hartley Vale Garlic Farm was established in 2018 as an organic garlic farm now owned by James and Michelle and their two children. The farm features a hempcrete building named 'The Stinking Rose' used for drying and curing garlic, that also acts as a big room for garlic feasts during planting (March, April and May each year). The building also houses toilet and shower facilities for guests when camping on site. On some evenings, the sky puts on a real show of golden sun rays with pink, purple and blue clouds while swallows flit across the garden beds catching moths. Our guests like to sit around their campfires watching the spectacular show while kids and dogs run around without the burden of leashes or noise of city traffic.

We invite you to come and camp on our organic garlic farm. Our whole property is an exercise in sustainability.  We live off grid and are highly committed to the circular economy and connecting people from the city with rural areas.  We use sustainable farming methods to produce organically grown garlic on an elevated site in beautiful Hartley Vale (near Lithgow),  just 2 hours from Sydney.  We especially love guests with young children and dogs and can offer paddock to plate meals on request for large groups, served in our beautiful farmhouse. We have composting toilets. Hot showers. Pets welcome. We sometimes offer garlic tasting after harvest (time dependent, once per year) so be sure to ask us! Please don’t believe the AI summary of the reviews, because it really doesn’t do this place justice. This place is gorgeous and an absolute must stay. We loved it here. It’s peaceful, private and somehow still feels like you have the place to yourself even though there are other sites on the property. The scenery is beautiful, especially in the morning with the mist over the hills and the paddocks around you. Sitting outside with a coffee and having one of the gorgeous fluffy dogs wander over for a visit was honestly one of my favourite parts. The hosts are so lovely, welcoming and accommodating, but also really respectful of your privacy. The shower and toilets are near the main property, but it never feels intrusive or awkward at all. And the toilets genuinely deserve a mention 😂 I’ve used plenty of composting toilets before and these are nothing like them. They’re spotless, beautifully styled and honestly feel more like a little boutique bathroom than camping facilities. The hot shower is also such a bonus. The organic garlic farm adds so much charm to the property, and the hosts gave us some great suggestions for things to do nearby too. We’re already planning to come back, especially around Halloween for the garlic harvest event. Such a beautiful, peaceful place with lovely people, gorgeous dogs and a really special feel to it. Absolute hidden gem.

Had a beautiful time with my family here. Michelle's doggies were very friendly with ours. We received some lovely garlic scones after giving her a hand with lifting some heavy items, so it was a very nice exchange. Would love to come back! Thanks Michelle!!

Directions were a bit confusing with recent road closures in the area, but the site was great- beautiful scenery and Michelle was super helpful when we ran out of water. Was nice to just enjoy a campfire and some quiet for a couple of days with our fam and doggy. We also loved it was close to Hartley and Zigzag.

A Relaxing Camping Retreat

A fantastic campsite with beautiful views and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. The friendly dog (Daisy) added a special touch, and the toilet and shower facilities were excellent. The owner was lovely, welcoming, and very helpful throughout our stay. We'd happily return and highly recommend it to others.

Overall we had a nice time. The hosts are nice, friendly people. Their dogs are well behaved & safe around small children, but are consistently keen to play. The site was much closer to the road & the owners home than we had expected & it didn’t feel very secluded. Our group also felt that the toilet facilities were not well maintained. In spite of these things, the view from the campsites is very beautiful & the sites are relatively well spread out.

Overall we had a good time, plenty of space, good view and Daisy their dog was an extremely welcoming host who brought all her toys over to play. However there were a few let down points: The toilets are connected to the house at the back, which wasn't obvious from the description. Daisy greeted us when we first arrived, but jumped on our car doors, consequently scratching them. She was also not taken in one of the nights, and was barking well into the AMs. The instructions on where to set up camp could be clearer after entering the wooden gates.

We had a pleasant stay at Michelle’s garlic farm. The campsite is spacious and each site is well spaced apart to ensure privacy and comfort for the campers. The farm manager, Oscar, was friendly and made sure we had everything we need and answered all the questions we had. The toilet was well kept - the rainy weather got the floor a bit muddy, but that did not bother us. The shower however, was not an ideal set up. It seems like it was shared with the actual farm occupants and wasn’t clean enough to entice us to shower (used towels in the sink and on the floor) – again, the cleanliness could be due to the damp weather, so maybe we just visited on a bad day.

We really enjoyed our time here at Hartley Vale Garlic Farm. Our boy got to ride on a cart with Michelle's boy. He was so happy! Their pet doggy (we've been calling her Daisy, please correct if wrong) was an amazing host! She brought all her toys out to play. It was very peaceful and just lovely to immerse ourselves in nature.

### The Real Stars of the Show: The Farm Dogs 🐾 While the views and facilities were incredible, the absolute highlight of our trip was meeting the two resident farm dogs. These two beautiful, incredibly playful pups welcomed us almost as soon as we set up camp. They quickly became our ultimate holiday companions, dropping by to check on us and keeping us highly entertained with their goofy antics. They were exceptionally well-behaved, brilliant company around the campfire, and their friendly energy made an already wonderful stay truly unforgettable.

Lovely spot near the blue mountains with views of the forest and farm. Host is very welcoming and the tow dogs played with us the whole stay. Toilet and shower are tidy. We collected own wood for the fire at night. Overall really good farm stay.

Beautiful views, only 4 sites but they are large. Access was good even with all the road closures going on in the area. Lovely hot showers and toilet available. Stayed 4 nights over Easter had a wonderful time catching up with family around the fire at night and a day visit to zig zag railway only half an hour away and Hartley Historical village about the same. Michelle was very welcoming, as were her two dogs which my girls fell in love with. A very peaceful place to stay.

Difficult to find. Need gate sign and or number. Nobody on site whenwe arrived late afternoon. Facility not good. Only one toilet available,not clean ,very dirty. Very dissapointed, would not reccomend, not worth the money. Sorry

The view from the site is special however the site itself is very muddy as son of owner has churned up the field with motor vehicle. The shower facility is sound appears to be shared with owner - flannel on basin and underpants left on floor. Toilet for guests was locked. Grass growing through shower room door. Site clearly has many projects on the go with the result that it looks a mess. . Host very friendly.

Great base camp to explore area. Fantastic views and sunsets. Michelle is very helpful and accommodating. The two dogs Daisy and Stephen are beautiful and great entertainment as was their little helper Oscar who was very informative and great to have a chat to.

Really nice campsite, nice views and quiet and peaceful. We arrived super late in the evening and had a lot of trouble finding the site (don’t be stupid like us) we also picked a weekend where we had torrential rain the whole 2 days. Even still, we enjoyed our stay and will be back again. The two farm dogs were really friendly and came and adopted us for the weekend. There’s some sheep, and chickens too! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to meet Michelle nor did we learn about the farm/ garlic etc - it was a cold miserable weekend so maybe next time when it’s pleasant we’ll get to do those things. Note: upon arrival through a brown gate, turn immediately left and follow the track to the campsite (we had major issues finding so thought I’d reiterate here)
