Whether you’re half fish or a total landlubber, Kerr Lake State Recreation Area will satisfy your deepest desires, especially if what you desire is an awesome weekend spent outside. With 50,000 acres of water, there is no shortage of room for sailboats, speedboats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards—basically any kind of watercraft you can imagine. You’ll see a lot of people fishing these waters, because the fishing is darn good. And on hot summer days, you’ll see plenty of people bobbing in the water, enjoying the refreshing cool-off. But we can’t let the lake take all the glory. Over 800 miles of wooded shoreline give way to excellent hiking, picnicking and camping. It’s hard to please everybody all the time, but Kerr Lake Recreation Area does a pretty good job.
