We are a secluded, land-based retreat and campground, along a tributary of the Tar River which backs up to a wild forest, offering individuals and small groups a place for rest, exploration, sanctuary, and grounding. Equal parts woodland, floodplain wetland and pastureland, R.O.S.A (Rare Occaneechi Saponi Alluvial) land is stewarding 23 acres of ecological magical oasis in an Aquatic Habitat deemed an important NC Natural Heritage area of the Piedmont of North Carolina. Rare mussel species and amphibians live here. Come see for yourself! We offer nature-based immersion for artists, healers, cultural and frontline organizers and their families taking time for restful resistance. It is a triptyech of woods, water and pastureland butting up against an untouched wild old hardwood forest - a combination unlikely found in the PIedmont- nestled among small tobacco, horse and hay farms in the Southeast corner of Granville County between Oxford and Roxboro in the beautiful PIedmont of North Carolina.

#3 - HIKE-IN Short descending walk (100 yards), to spacious site with river access. - PARKING for SITE #1:  Right outcrop just as you drive up the driveway.  2-person tent will fit on platform and/or ground tent site. Site automatically comes with one bundle of wood. Purchase extras at check out for more. Nestled in a secluded wooded Beech Tree cove area set back by creek.  Easy access to floodplain forest and trail, fire pit, and hammock swing set up. Gleaning from the surrounding woods is welcome and highly encouraged. NOTABLE AREA ATTRACTIONS - FALLS LAKE State Park for hiking and swimming [30 min away] Ask and i will give you directions.  LEDGE CREEK PRESERVE in Stem, NC.  BEREA MINI MART - Muslim-owned and sells Cajun Chicken tenders and pizza [5 min away].  Campground map to orient you when you arrive.  SHED is CAMPER CENTRAL. I recommend you stop at the grey shed across from the roundhouse to get your water, use the toilet, and stock up on your wood before making your way to your campsite.  ARRIVING DURING DAYLIGHT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Potable well water (tad high in iron) spigot is on side of grey shed to right as you drive in for easy water accessibility.  Bring your own container! Dry wood is stored under shed.  Feel free to use a wheelbarrow to get starter kindling and logs to your site.  Gleaning around site for additional wood is totally fine and encouraged.  BATHHOUSE Compost Toilet & Hot Water Outdoor Shower - Beautiful custom wood structure built by a crew of women, queer and gender non-conforming community folks out of fallen lumber from the land!  PARKING for SITE #3:  Drive past shed (on your right) and garden to your left. #4 - WALK-IN GROUP SITE Back country walk-in site descending down small hill (30 yards) to holler-like grassy wild area.  Site automatically comes with one bundle of wood from the land and kindling. Purchase extras aka 'bundles' at checkout for more.  River access surrounds.  Fire pit.   Ideal for group (up to 10) looking for seclusion OR trailer, self-sufficient smaller RV, car camper to park under tree line on grassy knoll.  Gleaning from the surrounding woods is welcome and highly encouraged. NOTABLE AREA ATTRACTIONS - FALLS LAKE State Park for hiking and swimming [30 min away] Ask and i will give you directions.  LEDGE CREEK PRESERVE in Stem, NC.  BEREA MINI MART - Muslim-owned and sells Cajun Chicken tenders and pizza [5 min away].  Campground map to orient you when you arrive.  SHED is CAMPER CENTRAL. #1 - HIKE-IN Short descending walk (100 yards), ideal for 2-person tent platform. Ideal for hikers. Most Intimate campsite with fire pit, tent plaform and most impressive rocks to sunbathe upon or wade around in the tributary within steps of the site.   Site automatically comes with one bundle of firewood and kindling from the land. Purchase more extras aka 'bundles' if needed at check out. Easy access to floodplain forest and trail, fire pit, and hammock swing set up. Will need to carry all gear. PLEASE PAY FOR 1 EXTRA for each Bundle of 7-8 Chopped Hardwood + Lots of Starter Sticks per camp firel. It is labor to glean, saw, and chop fallen limbs to make into firewood for your camping pleasure.  Please help by contributing generously. It is an honor system. Thank you. My partner and I had a lovely time camping with our pups at site #3! Not a lot of water flowing through the creek right now since we haven’t had much rain, but I imagine it would be even more peaceful with the sound of the water. We’ll definitely be back!!

The land and camp site are really beautiful! Site 3 is very spacious, and really wonderful to be right on the creek. Cox was very communicative- we really enjoyed our stay!

This was my first time camping solo, and I could not have picked a better place for it. My site was private and safe, right next to the river....my tent fit perfectly on the platform and there was a firepit nearby. Directions to the campground were clear, I found the place easily. Be prepared to walk a little bit from your car to site#1, but it's a beautiful walk on a trail. Something for every nature lover ..river, meadows, woods, a fruit and veggie garden, I even saw some horses! Bathroom was easy to find and workable, too. Just a gorgeous, quiet place to connect to creation! Cox was friendly and encouraged me to enjoy the campground and hang a while, which I appreciate. Get yourself to Respite on the Round! I highly recommend!

My wife and I had a great time. It was very quiet, and the land was beautiful. The creek was very nice to cool down in and relax. It feels very private but its only a short walk away from the restroom. Over all its a very nice spot that i would highly recommend

I loved the campsite! It was nestled down just into the woods next to a wonderful creek. The spot is shady and beautiful and I especially appreciated the raised tent platform and nice fire pit. My husband and I enjoyed staying for our anniversary and will definitely be coming back again!

Great site, the area was clean and surrounded by trees connected by a trail to Site 3, which is where another group of friends stayed to be close to the creek. Great secluded campsite!

Big Beech Creekside (#3)
This is such a hidden gem; it's my 3rd time booking at this campsite. It's great for a dip in the creek and a fun time with friends. The trails are well-maintained, and the amenities are great for first-time campers. I love bringing my friends here, and it has become somewhat of a tradition to come here and unwind. The host is very kind, thoughtful, and quick to respond; I will continue to recommend and spread the word about this wonderful site.

Bus glamping with a dog

It’s a beautiful quiet environment. The bus is cute and the bed is comfortable. It was cold when I camped, but with the little wood stove, my sleeping bag and the blankets Kristen provided I slept nice and cozy. My golden retriever enjoyed the wide open space and the little trail by the river to play and walk.

The place was beautiful! Honestly such an ethereal experience. Steven is also so wonderful and welcoming. The directions straight forward so you can’t miss anything. Best to see the sunset and sunrise near the big tree. Wouldn’t want to miss it for the world.

Back Country Canopy (#4)
This is my second trip at this campsite and I cannot wait for the third. Kristen’s camp is well kept and has everything you need to feel confident as a new camper. Our girls camping trip was a success even though we were caught in a storm, Kristen was kind enough to offer shelter and warn us of the coming rain. Overall the site was beautiful and the host was kind and communicative I will continue to recommend this site especially to new campers.

We loved staying in the Sonny the Wonder bus! The land is really beautiful with nearby bee hives and horses and a lovely garden. The only drawback for us was sharing one composting toilet with all the other campers.

On a whim and with less than 24 hours notice, I booked the Wonder Bus while keeping in mind there was an 80% chance of storms. I must say, staying here was the absolute most curious, fun, explorative time my mom and I have ever had. There were terrific storms. My hiking sandals were quacking from the wet grass and some boys used a duck call thinking dinner had landed on the other side of the bush. 😂 I almost lost it laughing and running away. We saw a larger cat cross the creek and slink up the hill. I wasn't sure if it was wild or what, but later we went to the beach at night, turning the lights off momentarily to see how dark it was down there. Some kind of animal made a harping noise like a hyena laughing as soon as the lantern went off and we ran up the hill giggling and terrified. The entire property is so incredible, I can't wait to see it in the fall and learn more about it. I greatly enjoyed everything from the pond to the miles of various trails, and even the company of Brandy, the most silly little beagle and forest buddy you could ever ask for. 💜

I got in without an issue, and figured everything out except how to work the sink (there was plenty accessible water from a source next to the bus). The schoolie had all the things I needed have a comfortable stay. I really enjoyed the experience!

Amazing space and gentle, vibrant host !! This land feels so tender and cared for !! Our spot was steps away from a gorgeous creek and there was ample space to explore and soak in the solitude. Stargazing here is WHIMSICAL.

Kristen’s land was absolutely beautiful! We camped at site 3 next to the creek, under the tall beeches that threw the best tent shade ever! Firepit to cook on, lots of privacy, bathroom/shower, amazing stars, nice people. Will definitely be back with friends to hangout. Enjoy some cool drone shots of the property that I took!

Excellent campsite. It’s in a secluded spot next to a creek, but it’s very convenient to parking. There was a bathroom and a shower not far away. The fireflies were beautiful.

The site was pleasant! We went in late spring so having plenty of shade and the creek running through was quite helpful! There's plenty of space here, so that wasn't a problem. The facilities (toilet, shower) are a few minutes walk away. Having additional firewood on-site available for purchase was very helpful, and cheaper than retail. The walk down from the parking area and the facilities is a bit steep, so make sure you have plenty of tread on your shoes/boots, and if you have balance issues you might want to look into a different site. It can also be slippery on wet days, but there was no issue when it is dry. The location overall was nice too, it's fairly close to a couple good sized small towns, and only an hour or so outside of Raleigh and Durham. Overall a very nice place to camp!
